|Minimum Stay||5 - 14 nights|
Come in and visit paradise in our newly remodeled, air conditioned two bedroom, two bath condo located right on one of Maui's finest beaches.
The entire kitchen was just updated with new custom cabinets, all new appliances, granite countertops and new flooring throughout. The guest bath was redone with new cabinets, granite, flooring, tub and fixtures! You aren't going to want to leave!
Our beach - Sugar Beach - was just voted #7 in all of Maui by Maui Best Guidebook for walking, swimming and boogie boarding!!
We are located at Makani A Kai, a wonderful family style complex of deluxe, townhouse condominiums, each unit is set back from the other for privacy on lushly landscaped grounds. Our Maui home has an ocean view, sleeps six and has all the amenities but you and your swimsuit! Whale watch right from your lounge chair in the Winter.
We are centrally located in Maalaea. Just fifteen minutes from the airport, ten minutes from Kihei and twenty minutes from Lahania. Take a walk on five miles of one of Maui's finest beaches, watch the sunset as you relax in the evening or for you early risers view the magnificent sunrise over Haleakala! We are a short walk to the Maui Ocean Center and Maalaea Harbor. Here you can find several restaurants, including The Waterfront - one of Maui's premier 5 star restaurants, shops and an assortment of ocean tours.

We chose Makani A Kai because of its central loction, the gorgeous view from the lanai and the lawn in front and because of the beauty and Hawaiin feel of the condo itself. Over the years we have added Hawaiian art work, bedding and floral arrangements. We want to feel like we are Maui when we are here and are sure you do too. We also enjoy the privacy of our beach. On a 'busy' day there might be 10 other swimmers or boogie boarders! It's quiet and secluded yet if you want to be part of the crowd, you re only 10 to 20 minutes from anywhere you want to go!
Aloha Lynn, Hi as you probably may or may not remember we just finished our stay at your home in Maui. Lynn it was wonderful! I'm not one who usually takes a "chance" on unknown accomodations, however you were true to your word. Your home is lovely, well positioned and the grounds were great. To be honest I am selfishly reluctant to tell others about the best kept secret in the "Hawaiian Islands". This was the best vacation I have had. Mahalo.
I really enjoy staying at the Makani A Kai again. It's a beautiful property that's quiet and located on the beach. You have miles of beach with very few people.
The sleeping arrangements were not ideal for my group but we made it work. The queen "bedroom" is a loft so there's no privacy. We were disappointed there were no boogie boards as we were expecting from reading previous reviews. The kitchen is very well stocked.
We stayed in this unit for the first week of our two week Maui holiday. I loved that the condo complex was right on the beach, which made for nice sunset walks, turtle and whale watching, plus some nifty snorkelling when the waves aren't too rough. The area is one of the quieter neighbourhoods; No big resorts or clubs are nearby to cause noise or traffic, and the public park right beside the unit was quiet as well.
Being centrally located in Maalaea is handy for those who want to explore; you can head west to Lahaina for shopping/museums, take the road to Hana, drive up to Haleakala, or head south to La Perouse Bay. Close by the condo, within walking distance, is the Maalaea harbour, which features the Maui Ocean center, and where several snorkelling, whale watching and fishing tours depart daily. A short drive north will take you to the Maui Tropical plantation/zip line, Iao Valley, or into Kahului/Wailuku for grocery shopping.
The condo is well appointed, with pretty much every kitchen item you'll need. The fridge freezer has a built in icemaker, which saves having to buy bagged ice. The main floor closet has beach items like an umbrella and boogie boards, and portable coolers for going on adventures around the island. We also found hand soap, shampoo, and a hair dryer in the bathrooms, which not all condos provide.
I love the tropical décor, and the unit was just a nice size for us four travelling as two couples. The bedroom upstairs has its own bath, which is convenient and gave more privacy.
About the only nitpicks/traveller's warnings I can think of are rather minor:
- the kitchen is so well stocked, that there is limited dry goods storage. You may have to do some creative shuffling if you don't want to leave stuff on the counter tops.
- as it's centrally located, the airport flyways can be directly overhead depending on the wind direction
- there WILL be ants. This is a tropical island, so this is unavoidable. (other than a penthouse condo, I've found them in ALL my tropical accommodations.) Keep all your open goods in the fridge and make sure to IMMEDIATELY clean up anything you drop/spill.
***A special shout out goes to our property owner and manager; Lynn was very accommodating with our booking arrangements, and Cindy made special provision for our group's chemical sensitivities, going so far as to purchase/launder the linens in the detergent I use at home. Thank you for your help, ladies, and we hope to return to Maui someday soon!
What we liked: the location of Maalaea. It is a central location to the rest of Maui. It has a long beach that is great for walks, runs. We saw turtles every day, walking on the beach or snorkeling. It has minimal waves, so we had to drive to other beaches for our boys to go boogie boarding, etc.
What we wished was different: the condo is right next to a public park so the park maintenance workers arrived early to leaf blow, cut grass, back up their trucks. We didn't use the AC because we prefer to hear the ocean & have fresh air, but the neighbors AC unit sat next to our patio & was really annoying. Roosters crowed every morning before sunup. These are all things that are only a bit bothersome. The one item that would keep us from renting this condo again is the space for the master which was in a loft. It had almost no privacy from the living space below. The condo has mirrors on all the walls so you don't really notice this in the pics. We made it work though & still enjoyed our stay.
The condo is spacious. Two bedrooms with two bathrooms perfect for a family of 4. The room upstairs can lack privacy when people are downstairs. Its so beautifully decorated. Kitchen has all you need to eat meals in so you can save a little money. The condo is in a perfect location on Maui. You can reach Lahaina in 20-25 mins and Kihei in 15 mins. We did the road to Hana, biked down Haleakala, snorkeled with fish and went whale watching! Oh yes... Whales!!! Wow!!! Right from the condo you can see the whales! Amazing! This truly is an amazing island and we certainly enjoyed our piece of paradise in Maalaea! Thank you for letting us stay here and we hope we can come back very soon. We will definitely keep this place on our list of top places to stay!
Hi Lynn, This is our second stay at your cozy condo. The re-do on the couch and new bedspreads are beautiful. Once again we were very happy with the accommodations. We enjoyed our best vacation ever in Maui :) I would definitely recommend your condo to friends and family. We are already talking about our next trip back :) Thank you!
I took this condo because of it's location, and a good price. The location is just what I wanted centrally located about 15 minutes from the Catholic church in Kihei, Less than twenty from the Airport, and 20 minutes from Lahiana but not during rush hours. The location at Maalea Bay is perfect, last on the row of complexes with a small public park overlooking the condo. Before I arrived the park had me worried but it was fine, it's a small county park and they had people clean up every morning, I did not like the leaf blower after 7AM, ha! Liked watching the local people and it was only lightly used and quiet after dark. Maalea Bay is very windy but I don't mind wind except one day of the two weeks when the wind blew at more than 30 miles and hour and dust was picked up from the surrounding hills, you could feel it but I just kept my back to the wind on the beach or at the pool.
The complex itself is fine with an X police officer as on site manager which I liked. It was well decorated with flowers and well maintained, it was also generally quiet in my two weeks. One minor negative is the septic system is pumped once a month and I arrived at the end of the month and there was an aroma within twenty feet or so, as you go to the parking lot. You could not smell it in the condo at all and when they pumped it at the start of the month I could not smell it. There was enough parking but don't know about peak season.
As for the condo itself everything worked, and it is decorated nicely. You can see the beach and at night the lights from Kihei and the town of Kula on the volcano, nice view and the sun rises right over the mountain. The only complaint I would have is the twin bed's mattress by the window is very squeaky and the sofa while very soft is very worn and should be replaced. Only had one insect in the condo in two weeks excluding flies which I thought was not bad for the tropics.
Overall I would certainly stay at this complex again and for the right price would stay in this condo! I'm not sure the complex is the best for small children, maybe to quiet and they might like a heated pool. Hope this will be usefull to someone.
