This delightful, SECOND STORY, NO-SMOKING studio is designed to ensure your comfort and privacy. We are available to greet our guests and attend to their needs. Pelican suite accommodates a family of four (2 adults and 2 children -- NO MORE ALLOWED!), with one queen bed and two comfortable foam floor mattresses. The large, one-room studio has sitting and dining areas, a charming bath and full kitchen decorated with Mexican Talavera tile. All linens, cookware, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker, dishes, eating utensils, and more are provided. The private entrance leads in from an off-street parking area through a courtyard and up a tiled staircase to the suite and a stunning view out over the Sea of Cortez from the private veranda. This is a perfect place for a romantic getaway for two, or for a small family to relax and play on one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico. Come share our paradise!

GREAT FOR FAMILY GATHERINGS! We list two other apartments on HomeAway — the Tortuga, on the ground floor, and Casa Encantada, which is just two doors away on the beach. The Tortuga can accommodate a family of three, and Casa Encantada sleeps six; so we can accommodate up to 13 people for those special family affairs.

Peaceful and private!: The Pelican is extremely popular with renters because of it's privacy and the stunning view out over the Sea of Cortez. The private veranda has a palapa roof, cushioned chaises lounges, and table and chairs for outdoor dining. The tiled sidebar is great for mixing drinks or grilling on the electric grill provided.

Appropriate for four: Couples love it, and it is also great for a family of four. There is a queen bed and comfortable, thick foam flour mattresses, with linens, for floor sleeping. In the spring and fall, many choose to sleep out on the veranda on the comfy, padded chaise lounges.

Cooks love it: The full kitchen makes it great for those who love to cook and entertain. There is sufficient tableware for inviting friends over for drinks or dinner.

About Carolyn Kinsman/Perry Willkes

We retired to Kino, bought and renovated this old house for ourselves, and added a couple of guest apartments for family and friends. Well, guess what? Family and friends don't come all the time, so se started renting. We refer to ourselves as the accidental innkeepers!

Carolyn Kinsman/Perry Willkes purchased this studio in 2003

Why Carolyn Kinsman/Perry Willkes chose Sonora

On my. Let me count the whys! Well, it's on the most beautiful beach! It's quiet, and peaceful. During an early morning beach walk, you might meet one or two other people – but not always! We always wanted to live by the sea but never dreamed it would be possible. Now we wake up every day and feel gratitude for our good fortune. Also, it's not too far to drive back to the U.S. to see family — or for them to come see us.

What makes this studio unique

Sunsets, great seafood, our organic garden, Kino folks, Mexican's tough to beat!

Perfect! Awesome! Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

Carolyn and Perry go a step above to make this vacation retreat wonderful. The beach and the views are awesome, but it's also the little (or big) things that made this place extra special. First off, the bed was comfortable!!! Pillows great as well. They had a book of helpful information for you to read about the place and Kino Bay. Extra hand towels and bath towels were available should you need them. Beach toys, beach towels and sunscreen in case you forgot yours or ran out! The outside chairs and loungers were comfortable. They recycle and compost which is not something we always see. Too many numerous things to mention but lots of little things that added up to a quality stay. Perry and Carolyn were available to answer any questions you had and were wonderful hosts. We loved Kino Bay so much we're going back next winter! Stay here - you won't be disappointed.

Wonderful peaceful Adventure

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience. The studio apartment upstairs was awesome.

Clean, comfy bed, great linen, so private. The sunsets are the best part.

Carolyn and Perry were so helpful and welcoming. Great people.

Their directions for our first time in Mexico were so helpful and precise.

The town is small, peaceful, small restaurants with wonderful fresh seafood. Mexican people very friendly, helpful.

Our stay was very relaxing, beautiful place.

Amazing space, location, and people!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I have stayed at Casa Tortuga a number of times since 2008 in both the available spaces. Each time is more wonderful than the last. Carolyn and Perry are just wonderful and they have really taken great care to make sure their guests have the best possible stay. The space itself is just lovely and the location is indescribably beautiful.

Regardless of whether you want an activity filled stay, a relax-only vacation, or something in between, there are options for you and I cannot recommend Casa Tortuga more highly.

two water junkies found a gem!!

  • 5 of 5

My old lady and I are big ocean junkies and love everything there is to do. I booked this wonderful beauty, not knowing what to expect. When we arrived we were taken away by the beauty of the entire compound. It was big enough for us to lounge around like a king and queen for two days. The photos dont do it justice but you are about 50 feet from the water!! the have a gorgeous back patio area ( you also have your own private patio) and one of the best things is that they have a room filled with kayaks and noodles and snorkels and anything you can imagine. we have all of our own gear but for someone who wants to try it out, its perfect. I cannot wait to come back for my birthday this year!!

girls getaway

  • 5 of 5

My friend Liz and I had a wonderful, relaxing two days away from the hectic life style in AZ. Not being a beach person this has changed my mind and just reinforced Liz's love of the ocean and its beauty. Perry and Carolyn made us feel like they have known us forever. Could not have asked for more perfect accomadations and amenities. El Pargo Rojo restaurante was super and prices great. Casa Blanca was good for breakfast also. Took bus into Old Kino and had great day there with the locals. Found some interesting things, i.e. shells, sea life, on the beach as well as a varity of birds, even a crane fishing in the surf at midnight. Would love to return another day maybe in the winter. Highly recommend this paridise to all. AJ and Liz

Casa Tortuga

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot fully describe the location, setting, or beauty of the area of Kino Bay. The accomodations were superb, and Carolyn and Perry are the most friendly hosts! I will return again for sure, and 1-week is not enough time! Thank you for such a comfortable place to lie my head.

Highly recommend this place to others, many things to do, or just sit in the sun on the patio or beach and enjoy. Local people are all very friendly, good food, stores have everything you need. A car may be nice for traveling to Kino Viejo, otherwise walking, biking will get you around Kino Nuevo. We felt very safe here, and enjoyed the experience.

Kino Bay is a delightful combination of tropical beach environment with nearby desert and mountain views. The village of Kino Viejo is a small, vibrant community wish lots of local fishing and wonderful small restaurants. People are known for their friendliness. This is not a place for disco dancing; the atmosphere is relaxed and lends itself best to hiking, walks on the beach, fishing and swimming, reading and relaxing. It's perfect for families, artists and writers, nature lovers, and people who like to experience Mexican culture and have a good time! Local vendors feature everything from collector quality Seri baskets to ironwood carvings, colorful ceramics, handmade hammocks, and jewelry. The food is excellent, especially seafood. Casa Tortuga is within walking distance of some very good restaurants, and we are surrounded by friendly neighbors.
