Absolutely Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We had a great 3.5 weeks at the Hideaway and enjoyed every minute of it. Snuggled in the Wet Mountains just outside of Westcliffe, the Hideaway is a great balance between being away from crowds of people but having easy access to everything you need. Westcliffe is a short hop for all of your grocery, gas, and essential needs. Salida - which has a great mountain town feel with many shops and restaurants - is also an easy drive if you feel the need for a bigger town. We made many trips there and it is an easy and beautiful drive.

Although the larger Sangre de Cristo mountains receive the bulk of the attention, don't overlook the Wet Mountains for recreational opportunities. National Forest land is less than a mile from the Hideaway, with great hiking/walking/mountain biking trails. Two nearby trails worth mention are the Stultz trail and East Bear Gulch trail. Both are a challenging workout but will leave you with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Of course, the big mountains on the other side of the valley offer unlimited potential for recreation and are an easy 40-50 min drive to many of the trailheads. The Arkansas River Valley is also an easy drive with many opportunities for sightseeing, wildlife watching/birding, rafting, rock climbing, etc.

The Hideaway itself is the perfect retreat. An extremely well-stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, and a nice spacious layout will not leave you wanting anything should you decide to spend a day or two inside just reading and relaxing. We spent countless hours walking around the property, taking in the wonderful smells, and looking forward to the parade of mule deer through the forest each evening. Numerous species of bird are found right on the property, and flocks of wild turkey often trotted right by the front porch.

We are already looking at our calendars to plan our next trip to the Hideaway. If you seek a quiet retreat in the mountains that still has easy access to everything this part of Colorado has to offer, look no further. Five stars is not enough to rate this wonderful property.

True Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 weeks in this little spot of paradise and would highly recommend it to anyone. Nestled on 38 acres with a beautiful view of the Wet Mountains, it was everything we were looking for in a Colorado vacation. It is convenient to San Isabel national forest and about a half hour drive from Westcliffe or Canon City over scenic roads. We saw deer, turkey, and an abundance of birds during our stay. Very comfortable cabin with the privacy we wanted. The owners are delightful people who seemed to genuinely want us to have a good experience. We will be back.

Remote Beautiful House Perfect for quality Family Time!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed @ the Hideaway from Dec. 21-26 2017 and could not have asked for a better way to spend a family Christmas. Being from South East Texas we really didn't know what to expect from this little Colorado town and home but it definitely delivered. We were able to relax when needed but also get out and about and even got to go snowmobiling for our first time on Monarch Mountain @ which was an awesome experience in itself and the staff there is very friendly and I would recommend to anyone. They helped make our experience 1st class. The property is beautiful the house is amazing and the views are breath taking. Westcliffe is a pretty little town and Tony' s restaurant has some amazing food. Mrs. Lavonne is an amazing person and really made our Christmas dreams come true with this property. Her Charlie Brown tree in the living room was perfect and our 3 kids enjoyed decorating it. From watching the mule deer walking around 15 ft out of any window to exploring on the property to playing pool our kids were never bored and there was plenty of space in the house where we never felt cramped even with our dogs. We got to see real snow for our first time ever on the first day here and I know this is one family vacation we will never forget. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us and we hope to be able to stay here again.

Thank you so much,

The Horton Family (Conroe, TX.)

Beautiful place in amazing location!

This place takes a little while to get to but definitely worth it! We were visiting family and travelled back and forth to Canon City each day. The views are spectacular and the secluded location makes it so comfortable. We'll be back.
