Seriously perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a few days here on an anniversary trip after a week in Amsterdam; it made a wonderful change. If you're thinking about visiting, do it! The windmill is fascinating, Maarten is lovely and very helpful, it's only 1/2 hour from Amsterdam yet you're really in the country. We went on long bike rides, runs, we read, cooked and slept like a dream in the marvelous beds. I can't recommend this highly enough for a nice counterpoint to the urbanity of Amsterdam.

What a great experience!

  • 5 of 5

Oh my goodness, what an amazing experience!! This was our second time staying at the windmill. I originally thought it would not be as great as the first time since we had already experienced it- I was mainly doing it again for my kids. Boy was I wrong!! This place is magical! It is such an amazing windmill- the history, the land, the owner. Maarten is such a great guy- greeting us as though we were long lost family. The beauty and history of the windmill is exceptional-we learned even more this trip. The area along the Gein that it sits is so beautiful- no wonder the famous painter Mondrian painted this windmill several times, it's grandiour is breathtaking. If you are lucky enough to have a chance to stay at this windmill- snatch it up! You will create a lifelong memory for you and your loved ones!

We loved the windmill and the area around it. We biked everywhere like when we were kids.

If you get a chance enjoy the restaurants in downtown Abcoude. Make sure and keep lots of coins for the train. We would go back in a heart beat! Thanks to Maarten for taking care of us so well.

Quirky slice of windmill life

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in early June, after a short trip to Amsterdam. What a lovely place to kick back and relax, surrounded by fields and watching the cows. The windmill itself is a lovely unusual place to stay, and the sunny weather meant that we could breakfast outside, making the most of inside and out!

Most guests enjoy visiting Amsterdam during the day and relaxing around the mill after. Watch the river, the land and embrace the simple beauty of country life. To stay in an authentique and operational mill is simply unique.

Mondrian's painting of this mill is in the National Museum!
