About Melissa Laforge
Melissa and Charles enjoy travel and all things ocean. They are raising a family of 4 children, and enjoy exploring Canada's east coast in their family adventure bus. While waiting to retire at The Hideaway, Melissa and Charles work in teaching and robotics, respectively.

Why Melissa Laforge chose Halls Harbour
Drawn to the area with a collective Acadian family history at Grand Pre, Melissa and Charles discovered all the beauty of the Bay of Fundy and quickly determined this would be their retirement locale. The area has it all, from oceans and mountains, vineyards and fresh picked produce, ocean breezes and sunny vistas, sunset and stars, beaches and waterfalls, fishing and whale watching. With so much to do, it is easy to exhaust away your time before you have a chance to do it all.
What makes this House unique
The sunsets and proximity to the water and harbour are wonderfully enjoyable. This home has been fully updated and renovated with modern conveniences in mind. Travellers will find laundry, dishwasher, bluetooth speakers, and a modern decor that feels crisp and updated.

Little piece of paradise
This property has absolutely everything you need from nail polish remover to gorgeous wool blankets! Ocean view in the front and hot tub in the back, could not have asked for more. This house was spotless, I would highly recommend this property.
It really brings a smile to our face to learn that guests notice those little nuances, like the wool blankets, that are equally as important to us. We take pride in our level of cleanliness and work hard to keep those standards high. We love that it doesn't go unnoticed.
Guests such as yourself, who treat the place with care like it's your own, are the reason these ventures are possible. It's endearing to learn you found the same love of our home and this wee harbour, as we do.
We hope you return and continue to build your own family memories. :)

Just remote enough
Wonderful small seaside village. Easy walk to famous Hall Harbour. Melissa was great to work with.
The cottage was cozy and well kept.
Thank you for no TV and thank you for WiFi. Father & sons long weekend was a success.
We enjoyed all the local sights, checking the extreme tides several times a day, walking the rocky beaches, visiting waterfalls, chasing a tidal bore, etc.
Although the tourist season had just ended we enjoyed visiting many of the tourist sites, with no admission and free to walk about the grounds.
We enjoyed restaurants in the surrounding towns (10-20 min drive). Had a daily helping of Poutine... hey we aren’t Canadians :) and had never even heard of it.
Local people were kind and cordial.
The Annapolis Valley was beyond beautiful especially with the leaves turning color. Go to the look off, for spectacular views.
Well that sounds like a wonderful stay! Be sure to come back so I can help introduce you to our Acadian delicacy as well: Rappie Pie! Poutine truly is a magical Canadian food, but it doesn't end there. :)
The area has so much to see and do, and we are happy to learn that you enjoyed the discoveries.
You have confirmed for me that guests value the no TV just as much as we do. We truly find there is no leftover time in our days, after all the exploring.
Please come join us again some time. We would love to have you back.
Thanks you for sharing!
Walking out the door, you will be struck with the ocean vistas and ocean sounds, while the lobster boats often hover out front working their way into harbour, or waiting for the dramatic tides to change and permit re-entry.
A short few steps to the harbour brings you to the Lobster Pound, where you buy your dinner to cook back home, or sit down in their licensed Restaurant and enjoy a wide range of seafood dishes prepared for you (and no dishes!).
The harbour wharf also has an artisan coop, selling local artworks.
A short drive or bike ride will bring you to Sea Cones Ice Cream Boat, a unique lobster boat ice cream shop and lobster hut. Not to be missed are their Lobster Rolls, at times selling out with their demand.
Within a 15-20 minute drive, you will find yourself in the heart of the Annapolis Valley, full of orchards, vineyards, the trendy university town of Wolfville, and a wide range of deliciousness to satisfy your inner foodie. We will provide a list of our favourites. Shopping can be found for groceries, souvenirs, and big box shops all within close proximity.
Consider tourist attractions such as the Magic Winery Bus, Grand Pré National Historic Site, Ross Creek Centre of the Arts (world class outdoor theatre), ghost walk tours with Valley Ghost Walks, Wolfville Farmer's Market, nearby Shubenacadie Tidal Bore Rafting, and a 2.5hr drive to exceptional whale watching on Brier Island.
The Bay of Fundy offers a lengthy list of nature discoveries, including the hike at Cape Split, Blomidon Provincial Park, and explorations along all the coves and beaches. Halls Harbour has a beautiful waterfall a short hike along the shore, as well as sea caves a short way the other direction.
Halifax airport is 1hr & 20min close, as is the city of Halifax.
Kentville and Wolfville are 15 minutes away.
All destinations will be detailed to you in our annotated Google Map.
