Great cabin in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a great time renting this cabin for Labor Day weekend! The pictures don't do this place justice. Beautiful inside, rustic feel but with modern conveniences. HUGE back and front yards for the dogs. We grilled every night. Walked to the lake every day.. overall great experience! And Lynda was right next door if we had any questions. Would stay here again, absolutely! Thanks again for having us!

Owner's Response: Some people asked if we were going to tear down this vintage 1930 log cabin in the woods built from Jeffrey Pines from the lot next door. But we said no. We replaced the lower two layers of logs with a stone foundation and Added some electricity, hidden central heating and not so hidden hot tub. We said it is to be preserved as is as much as possible to allow people like you and us to enjoy the experience of our pioneer ancestors who built and dwelled in these cabins in simpler times. So glad you enjoyed the time travel experience. You are of course welcome back anytime.

We really enjoyed the experience of the cabin.

  • 4 of 5

We were warned about the mice problem that Tahoe was having. Unfortunately, someone prior to our visit left an open bag of opened spaghetti pasta on the top shelf above the microwave that the mice found and kept us a wake one night. I was able to get to it and throw it away, no more mice noises the next night!

The smoke alarms also chirped at night so we took them down and removed the batteries, no more chirping!

We brought our dog and it was great to have such a nice big fenced in yard for him to play in!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and I am glad overall, you enjoyed your time at our log cabin. We are an authentic log cabin in the woods. You will see wildlife everywhere, raccoons, chipmunks, squirrels and coyotes and our friendly neighborhood teenage size bear if you are lucky. And of course tiny field mice can be coaxed into the cabin if guests leave open food containers at night. That is why we do have glass jars for all food items left on shelf, even a special super long spaghetti glass jar. I am sorry the previous guest did not notice that, and I thank you for handling the situation. We could try to kill all the mountain critters and make this a humans only place.....but that is not our way. Our place is for guests who appreciate and enjoy being close too nature, even if a maybe a little too close for comfort for some at times. And thank you for changing the batteries in the alarms. I really appreciate your taking care of that and in return I would like to offer you a free night whenever you are back in South Lake Tahoe. Just email me and I will add free night stay to calendar for you any open date.

Owner's Response: Hmmmm, countless other guests disagree and seem to have an eye for history and appreciate us saving and restoring this authentic 1930 built log cabin. Highly suggest modern hotels may be more to your tastes. Sorry, but we don't have plans to replace our authentic log cabin with a white plaster motel 6 decor anytime soon.

Vermin infestation, in desperate need of repairs, Filthy cabin nothing like what is described!!!

  • 1 of 5

When booking this cabin owner seemed like a nice person but I am sorry I have to be honest so others don't make the mistake of staying here.

Cabin is nothing like pics on VRBO site. Logs of cabin are rotting and crumbling away so badly that light shows through from outside. This place would be impossible to stay at in winter!

"Rustic" is not the same as falling apart and in desperate need of repairs. The entire cabin is not "air tight" keeping noise, outside elements, and most importantly vermin out.

Cabin has a active infestation of vermin! They are everywhere in cabin. You cannot leave ANYTHING out on counters, floor, table, cabinets, stove...The only place you can put any food is the refrigerator. Vermin droppings everywhere all over dishes and counters. Owner and housekeeper manager are aware of vermin as they have tapped a note on counter warning of vermin. Warning this cabin is not acceptable for children or pets. Pets risk chance of disease from vermin getting into food and water bowls, and children risk chance of getting disease being close to floor.

Cabin is filthy! Wood floors have crack and holes. Floors are dusty and dirty, not appropriate for children or pets. Dust and spider webs everywhere!

Owner not being truthful in description on VRBO. In fact VRBO should remove this listing as this is not even appropriate to list as a vacation cabin in its current state!

Children, pets, and elderly or able people will find it difficult if not impossible to get upstairs to second floor. The only access is a very steep make shift ladder stairs. The upstairs is the attic that they have put down cheap basement carpet and a make shift bed. Very creepy up there and not usable.

The additions to this cabin are make shift construction, almost like when you were a kid and made forts in the woods with the neighbor kids. The additions cannot be up to code nor were permits pulled as the additions are not up minimal building standards.

Cabin is not secure...Does don't lock, windows don't lock. Someone could break into cabin and steal your valuables very easy when you are out.

I don't think the owner has been to this property in years. The owner is simply using this cabin to rip people off and make money.

VRBO makes you put at least one star...This cabin would get no stars!

Owner's Response: Really? Blackmail?Guess I should have paid Guest Gregory the BlackMail full refund he demanded to not post this fake review??? SORRY GREGORY, I REFUSE TO BE BLACKMAILED. Better luck with the next owner you try to scam. Funny Gregory, you stayed your whole time without a single call or email to me until after you checked out, ran away, and then tried your blackmail scam???? I leave it to wise readers to decide if your spiteful trash review has any merit, or if the countless 5 star reviews from honest guests are true. P.S. If Gregory bothered, he could see all permits filed with City of South Lake Tahoe and work completed and passed per code.
