Big Sky House Rental Photos and Description

House, 6 Bedrooms + Loft, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 15-16)

Welcome to the old Big Sky Firehouse. Located in The Meadows of Big Sky Montana, the character of this property is enhanced because a portion of it was once the Big Sky fire station. Of course the fire poles and trucks are gone, but the history of this property adds to it's charm. The property was moved and remodeled and a new addition was built to transform the 3,200 square foot home into the perfect lodging destination for your Big Sky vacation.

The first floor great room has a cathedral ceiling with a floor to ceiling stone fireplace. The room surrounds you with windows and mountain views. Don't be surprised if you wake up to a moose at your door in the morning. There are plenty of moose sightings. A large kitchen with a breakfast bar, dining room, a laundry, three bedrooms with queen beds and two full baths complete the the first floor. Climb the log steps to the loft where you will find a very large bedroom with four single beds, two single beds under one of the dormer windows, a full bath and several areas for lounging around, playing board games or watching Direct TV. The downstairs includes two more bedrooms, both with bunk beds and another full bath. The covered patio off the great room includes a fabulous hot tub for working out the muscle pain of skiing or sore shoulders from a long day of fly fishing.

The property is conveniently located within minutes of Big Sky Ski Resort which now includes Moonlight Basin and the private Spanish Peaks Club and Yellowstone Club. Fly fishing on pristine blue ribbon rivers like the Gallatin and Madison are nearby. Farther away (2+ hours) are the Henry's Fork, Beaverhead, Big Hole and the Yellowstone. Shopping, restaurants and bars are located within the village across the street and are a short walk away. There are hundreds of miles of hiking and mountain bike trails in the area. The west gate to Yellowstone National Park is less than an hour away and of course the City of Bozeman is within an hour drive as well.

We would love to have you stay at The Firehouse. Make your reservation today.

About The Owner

My family and I love to ski at Big Sky. I have skied all over, cutting my teeth on Mammoth when it only had 9 chairs (and chair #2 would sometime be a 90 minute wait,) to Vail, Aspen, Tahoe, Targhee, Jackson, Alta, Park City and Snowmass. There is nothing that combines the terrain and lack of crowds that Big Sky has to offer. It was always a dream to purchase a ski house somewhere. I live in Missoula, a 3.5 hour drive away and fell in love with this mountain. I also love the summer fun here in Big Sky from whitewater rafting, fly fishing, mountain biking and golf.

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why The Owner chose Montana

I originally wanted a ski in ski out, but with six kids, (meaning 12 kids when accounting for friends) came everytime we went, we needed something larger. There just isn't that much on the mountain in this price range where you can get up to 15-18 people sleeping. It is a short walk away from the store where kids can get ice cream or something that dad forgot. The shuttle picks up and drops off there, also. There are numerous restaurants and bars across the street. Nice breakfast bakery as well. DVD rental, thai and sushi, too. There is a cinema within walking distance, too.

What makes this house unique

We are very close to the Big Sky Town Centre. A collection of shops and restaurants about 200 yards away across the street. A free shuttle also takes skiers up the hill to the Mountain Village. Right across the street from the 16th hole on the golf course means nice place for early jogging and its a cross country ski area in the winter. The skiing at Big Sky is impressive. It has the steeps of Jackson, Snowbird and Mammoth. The groomers and plenty of blue like Park City or Deer Valley, The largeness @5700 acres makes it the largest American ski resort. Big Sky has the second most verticle in America. At 4366, it comes in second only to Snowmass at 4406

We loved our stay in the Firehouse! It is a great hous in a great location. We enjoyed celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary with a nice dinner party by the fire and hot tubbing under the stars. Thanks a million!

This was a great place to stay for a large group, plenty of beds, blankets, towels, bathrooms and more. It is just a block away from the city center, making it a quick and easy trip to the store if needed. Being just a 5 minute drive from the mountain was great as well for all of us skiers, and for the non skiers there was a great hike just down the road. We had no complaints concerning this house. We had a wonderful stay at BigSky and the house made the trip.

Perfect for our reunion

  • 5 of 5

We found the house perfect for our large group. Comfortable, spacious common area and kitchen. And the sleeping accommodations worked great for all of us. The location was very convenient for all of the things we were doing in Big Sky.

Highly recommend the Big Sky Firehouse

  • 5 of 5

In February 2016 ten of us stayed at this lovely house for a ski vacation. We've stayed in similar arrangements in Salt Lake City (multiple times), Jackson WY, Sun Valley ID and Banff AB. This house was the best, and also the best value. It's well situated, walking distance to the Big Sky "village" and about ten minutes' drive from the Big Sky ski hill. We were ten adults -- three couples and four singles. Everyone had their own space. (The place sleeps 16, but that would be more appropriate for a mix of kids and adults than for just adults.)

A few highlights: well-stocked kitchen; wood-burning fireplace (so much better than gas); convenient hot tub for four to six adults; big open space that encompassed the kitchen (with bar stools), dining area, and living area; even a good washer and dryer. The owner, Rich, was very responsive and well-organized, including dining recommendations.

As for the skiing, well, if you like Alta/Snowbird, Squaw, Jackson Hole etc. then Big Sky is very much in the same league. Except with no crowds, even on a February weekend. Big Sky bills itself as the biggest skiing in America and it is. In three days we didn't ski every lift, much less every run.

Three of us also took a day to cross-country ski at the lovely and well-groomed Lone Mountain Ranch, which is just 0.5 miles away. The Ranch also has snowshoeing, a fine lunch, and evening sleigh rides and dinners (which five of us went on and quite enjoyed). If you have a late afternoon flight out of Bozeman, also consider a day wandering around downtown Bozeman (Nova cafe, Burger Bob's) or skiing at Bridger Bowl, which is about 30 minutes from the airport.

Overall, this is the most positive review I've ever given.

Firehouse "Big Hit" with entire family!

  • 5 of 5

The “Firehouse” (#53181) is a property worthy of serious consideration for all large families planning a vacation to Big Sky. As advertised, it comfortably accommodates up to 16 people-allowing ample room for all family members to move around the home comfortably.

The large living room area with its centrally located fireplace has ample seating space. This open area has a TV, 3 large couches, coffee tables and a large dining room table that seats up to 12 people. A large breakfast bar provides seating for an additional 5 individuals. Since the kitchen is part of this open space, anyone assigned to cooking duties can still participate in any of the ongoing conversations. The kitchen for the most part is well furnished. A couple of suggestions for additional items would be-a coffee grinder, a medium skillet and a few serving dishes.

Especially appealing was how the sleeping areas can be utilized. We used the upstairs area for all the kids and the main and lower bedrooms for the adults. The beds were comfortable with plenty of blankets for warmth. There was enough storage space in each bedroom for clothes and personnel items. Each bedroom has a closet and another suggestion would be to purchase a few more hangers for each closet especially for those on the lower level.

The hot tub was a big hit with everyone-warm and inviting after a full day of skiing.

The convenience to Town Center and the grocery store was awesome!

As I hope you have concluded from this review, our entire family THOROUGHLY enjoyed our week spent at the Firehouse. We have been to Big Sky Ski Resort a number of times and stayed at various places. As our family has grown-sons now married with children of their own- we have had a hard time finding a rental home that we could all fit comfortably in. We have now found just that right place. We all look forward to returning in the future. Come check it out for yourself. I know you will be glad you did.

Owner's Response: Thank you and we are delighted you had a nice stay with your family. We, too, find our family growing and we bought the house to accomodate that future growth. We will be stocking the house with those items suggested as we agree. Again, thank you and hope to hear from you in the future. Rich

Amazing House, Fantastic Value

  • 5 of 5

We're a group of friends who meet yearly for a ski trip and we've been going strong for the last 7 years. We've been all over the country. We usually pay almost double what we paid here. It must be a montana thing... everything is reasonably priced there. I recommend this house to anyone. The owner could easily charge more money to this place. Great open floor plan on the main level. Enough beds to go around. The best part was the Jacuzzi. Nothing like a hot tub after a long days boarding. We're definitely bookmarking this one as one of the places to return to.
