About The Owner

My husband and I fell in love with this farmhouse from the mid-1800s and its beautiful, quiet setting when we first saw it in 1984. We knew the area well from many visits to the Berkshires and could not resist buying it! In 1991, we added a spacious addition, while preserving the integrity of the original farmhouse. For twenty years, we spent most weekends and summers here. Our kids loved swimming, canoeing, and fishing in Queechy Lake, playing Wiffle Ball on the lawn, and skiing in the winter. We still love the house, but we have college tuitions to pay!

The Owner purchased this farmhouse in 1984

Why The Owner chose New York

Our farmhouse is in the beautiful Berkshires, about two hours from New York City and Boston. At our house, you can enjoy the peace and serenity of country living, while still a short drive away from all the Berkshire cultural attractions, theaters, restaurants, and ski areas. Our fifty acres are perfect for walks in the woods -- criss-crossed by old stones walls, painstakingly built when the land was farmed in the 1800s. More outdoor explorations available in the Beebe State Forest and Barrett Pond up the road from the house.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Our house, which sleeps 12, is perfect for entertaining. The large kitchen has 2 ranges/ovens for cooking marathons. There are multiple dining areas, 2 living rooms, and a pool table -- with room for socializing and room for quiet retreats. Adults and teenagers can co-exist and still have their own spaces. There are books, games, puzzles, and sets for croquet, badminton, volleyball. We have many fond memories of lazy afternoons and evenings cooking and entertaining friends, discussions at the grill and on the deck, and card-game, Monopoly, and Scrabble tournaments.

Cool Place for a large family get away

  • 5 of 5

This rental home of the Mullin's is a perfect place to have a family get-together. With five bedrooms and three bathrooms, there is plenty of room for a large family. The owners keep the home well stocked with non-perishable foods, dishes, pans, etc. in the kitchen. It is also a haven for children and young adults because of being supplied with stacks of board games and puzzles for any age. There are 3 TVs in the home for guests to watch whatever pleases them. Basically this home has most anything a person would need or want while away from home. The owners are very easy to contact if needed for any reason.

As an added note, we were there in January. When the snow began to fall, almost immediately a fellow showed up with a snowplow !

Reunion with young children

  • 5 of 5

We rented this delightful home to serve as a residence for our family as we gathered to have a memorial service for my in laws in Stockbridge MA. Our family consisted of 6 adults and 5 children ranging in ages from 4 to 10. Monica was a big help from the beginning with suggestions as how to proceed. She was also very responsive in responding to questions before our arrival and during our visit. The children loved the large yard, the favorite activity being hide and seek in the yard and house. The house included everything a family could wish for. There were scads of DVDs suitable for adults, children and families and many CDs for the music lovers. For the sports lovers, there were soccer balls, basketballs, baseballs, bats, a bounce back, badmitten, croquet, etc. The dining room table seated 11. The house was essentially child proof. We didn't have to be trailing the children every minute for fear that something would be broken. The kitchen was well equipped with every appliance and utensil that one could want; basic cooking/baking items and herbs were supplied. Monica left a grocery card so we could take advantage of sales as well as a drug store card. The house had near by neighbors, but was private. A full size washer and dryer was included that our family found so useful. After the service, several people came back to the house for a meal and visiting. The house was perfect to host a number of people, because of size and serving supplies such as baskets and trays available. The beds were comfortable. Lastly, the house was big and spread out enough so that people could get away from each other for alone time, so everyone got along. The family all felt that the week we spent together, at what we called "the farmhouse", was wonderful and one that we might do again.

CHARMING AND COMFORTABLE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

  • 5 of 5

We organized a Family Reunion at this charming and comfortable renovated farm house in the Berkshires, and everyone loved this house! Six adults and five children found the house cozy, comfortable, clean and perfect for every member of our group, from the grandfather who likes reading on the old-fashioned front porch to the eight year old grandson who loves to play badminton. So much is provided: everything for the lake, all sorts of sports equipment, games and toys, and everything to cook and bake. The tables are large and perfect for the whole family to gather; the layout of the house aids and abets parents to sleep in (if the grandparents rise with the children), the house is set back from the road so it's safe for the little uns, and for the adventurous, behind the house, there rises a deep leafy forest. Oh, and I mustn't forget to mention the billiards room--yes, a whole pool table and all the fixins. We made many happy new memories at this lovely house, and recommend it most highly both to families and singles or couples who want a getaway.

Excellent for Ski Trips, too

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 10, including three middle-schoolers, had a wonderful long weekend at the house in the wintertime. The house is close to three different mountains-- within a half-hour of Catamount, Butternut, or Jiminy Peak. We found cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, and shopping/sightseeing nearby as well. But the house itself is perfect for winter nights and days. The kids hung around the living room with the wide variety of board games and puzzles provided, played pool at the billiards table, or went outside to play and go sledding on the grounds-- no begging for computers or TV time! The cooks in our group were gratified with the quality and size of the kitchen, which was very homey. The 1800s living room was perfect for those looking to sneak away for a quiet moment to read. At night there was little traffic on the road, and the house was nice and quiet. Lots more to say but in short: Highly recommended.

Wonderful house for a big family vacation

  • 4 of 5

Members of our extended family found this the perfect house for a ten-day stay in August. It's quiet, solid and peaceful -- sound doesn't travel from room to room -- and larger and more rambling than the photos suggest. There are four or five large rooms (two living rooms, dining room, big kitchen with another large dining space adjacent, billiards room) and two outdoor places where it's very pleasant to sit. Noise from the road doesn't really reach the house. There is a croquet set, badminton, a basketball hoop, bat and balls....and big lawns to play on. The woods surround the property and are nice for walking in next to the stream, and a pristine lake, with great swimming, is a ten-minute drive. The hosts took pains to set up the secluded second living room on the first floor, for use as a spacious and private bedroom for an elderly family member.
