Sky Island is the unique ecosystem of the craggy cliffs of Shawangunk Mountains famous among rock climbers. Nestled between the Rondout Creek and the D&H Canal, the cottage sits in a pastoral glade of trees, birds and deer. Kerhonkson is a Hudson River Valley town of natural beauty. It's a five minute drive to Minnewaska State Park and the Mohonk Preserve. This totally renovated 1840’s cottage is ideal for a couple, but also serves as a peaceful getaway for anyone wishing to spend some quiet time alone. It has a wood burning fireplace, cathedral ceiling with skylights and a private deck. It's an easy entry to the D&H Canal Rail Trail for walking, bicycling, cross-country skiing or bird watching. The house is so lovely, it always feels like home when we get there. We are Dutch and have been in this cozy house many times already. The first time we felt so welcomed by Irene, the owner, and now every time we see each other the contact just is great. The character of her and her family is in and around the house!
This cabin is perfect for the couple looking for a romantic getaway. Perfectly appointed, my husband and I literally could not have asked for anything more. The decor was extremely tasteful, and we had absolutely everything we needed (and more). Rustic exposed beams, skylights, deck, and cozy fireplace made this midweek escape one of the best we've ever had. A large selection of books, DVDs, and brochures for all the local parks, restaurants, vineyards, museums, and villages ensured that we spent our time enjoyably. The bedroom was surprisingly spacious with a big comfortable bed, fine linen and bedspread, and perfectly furnished. The bathroom was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed cooking our dinner in the well-stocked kitchen with the local produce we picked up during the day, and also appreciated the wireless internet connection with helped us keep tabs on what was happening in the "real world". There was plenty of closet space for us to keep our things and even a washer and dryer. This cabin is truly perfect, and we plan on staying again.
We felt at home as soon as we walked in the lovely cottage. Extremely clean, everything you could need was provided. Irene called to make sure everything was okay and also had a bottle of champagne for us, as we went there for an anniversary get away. Perfect location for visiting the two state parks within 10 minutes. We will definitely rent again.
The cottage is very well set up and maintained . I enjoyed my stay and would return.
Just what we were looking for. Quiet. Nice path for a long walk right out the front door. Very well cared for cottage. Host was attentive. Kitchen had all the utensils you'd need and even basics in the fridge and cupboard to bridge to the first shopping trip.
My husband and I have been coming here for the past several years, and every time is just as wonderful as the first. The place is private, at the end of a dead-end street, long fields extending as far as the eye can reach on two sides. In front, a huge fir tree separates you from the rail-trail joggers and dog-walkers. Inside is cozy and full of light in the day, warm and welcoming with an excellent fireplace at night. In summer, sit on the patio and watch the firefly show, accompanied by full-throated frogs. In winter, lie on the couch, or the bed and watch the stars come out through skylights. The kitchen has everything you need to make excellent meals, and includes a small table where you can dine. Irene is the perfect host, readily available to answer your questions, or completely invisible if you want your privacy. A kind and lovely woman. When you're ready for an outing, you are minutes from beautiful hiking trails, mountains, waterfalls, sky lakes. It is a truly perfect getaway place. We plan to return again and again.
We absolutely LOVE this cottage and have been several times. It really is a warm, cozy place to relax for a few days. My only suggestion is if you cook a lot (like we do), I'd recommend bringing your own knives and other special items. The kitchen has the basics, but is a little lacking for a seasoned cook.
