Bert and Terri are active scuba divers, sport fisherman, hikers, mountain bikers and off road enthusiasts. Overall, we are adventurous and have a great love and appreciation for the outdoors!
Bert & Terri Ferguson purchased this house in 2005
In Loreto Baja California Sur, we found a region with a rich and vibrant history. Loreto was the original capital of all the Californias over 300 years ago. It was established in 1697 by the explorer Juan Maria Salvatierra, a Jesuit priest. You can see evidence of this history in the Missions, municipal buildings and the hearts and souls of the Loretanos.
Loreto is a natural playground for anyone who loves the outdoor life. Its azure, clear waters and tranquil coves provide scuba divers and snorkelers unparalleled underwater beauty and an abundance of sea life. Near the islands, the waters provide sportsmen with perhaps the greatest fishing in the world, with record catches of sailfish, tuna and dorado. The islands are easily visited by boat and such a trip will no doubt include sightings of sea lions basking in the sun on rocky coasts and dolphins leaping across the bow wave of the boat.
Sea kayakers glide through the warm waters of Loreto’s bays to camp at remote beaches and sleep under the stars.
For those who are more land-bound adventurous, the Sierra de la Giganta’s provides many opportunities for mountain biking, horseback riding trails and hiking over ancient trails used for hundreds of years.
Our Casa is ~50 feet from the beach and ocean, with easy access directly off the front steps of the property. The Village oceanfront malecon is walking distance from the Casa and is an ideal place for an afternoon stroll; or in the early morning, when the offshore islands appear like floating rocks in the Sea of Cortéz. The locals say that this is “where the mountains come to swim.”
Enjoyed the house, would have been better if it was a little closer to town but also enjoyed the walk on the beach.
“My Mother and I stayed at La Casa De Ensueno Jan 14 to Jan 22 2017 . After arriving easily from the Loreto Airport by taxi(15 mins ) we met up with the property manager ,who like all the local people in Loreto , was very lovely ! We followed her to the Casa and she gave us a little tour of the home and also showing us where the kayaks and bikes were . The home is
very spacious and has two large bedrooms with very comfy king size beds. Mom and I felt a bit lavish (which was fine ) since we each had our own living room and bathroom as the home is set up so very well for more guests . The “WOW” moment was when we saw how close we were to the beach . 60 yards and one can be launching the kayaks for a leisurely paddle along the fabulous coast of Loreto . The Casa is fully equipped and tastefully decorated . There is a full library of DVDs (we had not time to watch movies ) and plenty of good books .
The comfy leather couches (in both sides of the home ) allowed Mom and I to “chill “ as we planned our next adventure.
We walked every day to downtown Loreto along the beach . It is a lovely walk and took us about 15 minutes . We decided not to rent a car because we easily called a taxi back to the house if we were too full after dinner or just walked back during the afternoon . Our routine was eat breakfast at the Casa on the spacious patio overlooking the incredible views of Isla Del Carmen and the Sea of Cortez .
Dinner was always in Loreto because the food in the many restaurants was very good . Fresh fish and seafood galore ! Wonderful typical Mexican fare . Pasta .. you name it ....
Too many to name but I do not think you can go wrong with the food anywhere according to what we sampled and speaking to other visitors.
Loreto is a lovely small town where Mom and I felt completely at ease . The local people are friendly and helpful and we never ,ever felt unsafe anywhere we walked .
There is no pressure to buy anything in any shop you walk into . Even the tour companies did not try to push anything on you . Many residents speak English, particularly in the restaurants. The food is not expensive and one can have a fantastic seafood meal for two people for 25 USD ... seriously ! The new Malecon (seaside walk zone ) along the main street
is very nicely done and has a great pier that one can wonder out along ,ending in an amazing bronze of a group of sea lions (worth a picture for sure ) ....
As a bit of a nervous traveler in new areas ,Loreto gave me
We enjoyed 7 days in this lovely home. The listing is accurate, and the house met all of our expectations. It is charming, clean and well maintained, with a fully equipped kitchen. We especially loved the rooftop terrace and the covered patio. The house is in a very quiet location, and a bit of a walk (20 mins) into Loreto proper. A car is recommended or a 100 peso taxi usually covered us. There are no grocery stores close to the house, however we happily used Arnie (Arnando) as our personal taxi driver for anywhere we wanted to go. Tabor Canyon was a great little hike and the town has great restaurants. Highly recomend Super Burro!
The house we stayed in was in a secure area just far enough from town to meet our needs for privacy, but close enough to walk down beach to town. Beach and views from house were stunning. We found a rental car helpful in meeting our needs to explore the area. We loved the spacious areas in the home and the outside patios were relaxing with lots of lounge chairs and tables. The king sized beds in both large rooms were comfortable and quiet. Wonderful books, movies and accessories in the kitchen. Bert was timely in answering all our questions about Loreto . We came over Thanksgiving and it is an extremely quiet time to come to Loreto, end of the low season we were told. We pretty much had the beaches and town to ourselves. Locals were nice and never pressured us to buy anything. We enjoyed many of the restaurants that Bert recommended, with the La Picazon being our favorite. We highly recommended staying at La Casa Ensueno.
Really enjoyed our stay at casa Ensueno. The layout was perfect for me and my grown up kids with two separate living rooms, huge decks etc. The bikes were a bonus to ride into town. Awesome views, and great kitchen when we chose to dine in. Loreto area had Blue and grey whales and other great sea creatures galore. I love this place and the casa was a great home away from home.
When I retired 3 years ago, I looked for a nice place to live in Loreto, Mexico. I was lucky to find El Jardin. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. It is about a mile from the center of town so you don't hear the noise from the bars. The 2-bedroom apartment is spacious and well decorated with colorful Mexican walls and curtains. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you need from glassware to Mexican-made dinnerware and flatware. All the rooms have air conditioners and ceiling fans. The neighbors are friendly and helpful. There are some great restaurants in town: PanQuePan, Sabor!, Super Burro, Playa Blanca, and especially Orlando's, where you will find the best coconut shrimp ever! The local gringos like to hang out at Augie's Bar - he provides free appetizers Monday through Friday with half-price drinks. Bert and Terri are terrific landlords who are always immediately responsive if you need anything. The Mexicans are very friendly and eager to jump in and help if you happen to have trouble. My car battery went dead in the middle of an intersection and a group of several young Mexicans backed up their truck, got out the jumper cables and got me going in a jiffy! A local Mexican guy drives through the complex every week or so selling frozen shrimp, scallops, fish and lobsters from the Pacific side - yum! The islands are beautiful and full of sandy beaches - very good for fishing, scuba diving, snorkling, and whale watching. The Malecon is a beautiful walking/driving area by the Sea of Cortez.
I am now relocating to mainland Mexico, but will never forget the wonderful times I had here in El Jardin, Loreto, BCS Mexico.
