Bert and Terri are active scuba divers, sport fisherman, hikers, mountain bikers and off road enthusiasts. Overall, we are adventurous and have a great love and appreciation for the outdoors!
Bert & Terri Ferguson purchased this house in 2005
In Loreto Baja California Sur, we found a region with a rich and vibrant history. Loreto was the original capital of all the Californias over 300 years ago. It was established in 1697 by the explorer Juan Maria Salvatierra, a Jesuit priest. You can see evidence of this history in the Missions, municipal buildings and the hearts and souls of the Loretanos.
Loreto is a natural playground for anyone who loves the outdoor life. Its azure, clear waters and tranquil coves provide scuba divers and snorkelers unparalleled underwater beauty and an abundance of sea life. Near the islands, the waters provide sportsmen with perhaps the greatest fishing in the world, with record catches of sailfish, tuna and dorado. The islands are easily visited by boat and such a trip will no doubt include sightings of sea lions basking in the sun on rocky coasts and dolphins leaping across the bow wave of the boat.
Sea kayakers glide through the warm waters of Loreto’s bays to camp at remote beaches and sleep under the stars.
For those who are more land-bound adventurous, the Sierra de la Giganta’s provides many opportunities for mountain biking, horseback riding trails and hiking over ancient trails used for hundreds of years.
Our Casa is ~50 feet from the beach and ocean, with easy access directly off the front steps of the property. The Village oceanfront malecon is walking distance from the Casa and is an ideal place for an afternoon stroll; or in the early morning, when the offshore islands appear like floating rocks in the Sea of Cortéz. The locals say that this is “where the mountains come to swim.”
Really enjoyed our stay at casa Ensueno. The layout was perfect for me and my grown up kids with two separate living rooms, huge decks etc. The bikes were a bonus to ride into town. Awesome views, and great kitchen when we chose to dine in. Loreto area had Blue and grey whales and other great sea creatures galore. I love this place and the casa was a great home away from home.
When I retired 3 years ago, I looked for a nice place to live in Loreto, Mexico. I was lucky to find El Jardin. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. It is about a mile from the center of town so you don't hear the noise from the bars. The 2-bedroom apartment is spacious and well decorated with colorful Mexican walls and curtains. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you need from glassware to Mexican-made dinnerware and flatware. All the rooms have air conditioners and ceiling fans. The neighbors are friendly and helpful. There are some great restaurants in town: PanQuePan, Sabor!, Super Burro, Playa Blanca, and especially Orlando's, where you will find the best coconut shrimp ever! The local gringos like to hang out at Augie's Bar - he provides free appetizers Monday through Friday with half-price drinks. Bert and Terri are terrific landlords who are always immediately responsive if you need anything. The Mexicans are very friendly and eager to jump in and help if you happen to have trouble. My car battery went dead in the middle of an intersection and a group of several young Mexicans backed up their truck, got out the jumper cables and got me going in a jiffy! A local Mexican guy drives through the complex every week or so selling frozen shrimp, scallops, fish and lobsters from the Pacific side - yum! The islands are beautiful and full of sandy beaches - very good for fishing, scuba diving, snorkling, and whale watching. The Malecon is a beautiful walking/driving area by the Sea of Cortez.
I am now relocating to mainland Mexico, but will never forget the wonderful times I had here in El Jardin, Loreto, BCS Mexico.
We just returned from Loreto and a great week seeing blue whales, grey whales, lovely mission, beautiful sunrises from the front terrace and sunsets from the rooftop area. The house was very warm and welcoming. Beds extremely comfortable. Everything we needed to prepare a meal. Unfortunately we were not able to make use of the kayaks due to windy conditions which just means we will have to return! Enjoyed walking into town saying hello to all the people and the dogs. We did rent a car which helped out when we went grocery shopping and allowed us to explore a little further. The wifi connection was very good. We would definitely recommend this house for a peaceful and relaxing stay. The owners were very prompt in responding to us and answering all questions and the manager was very helpful.
Casa Esueno was wonderful! Terri, who greeted us and gave us our keys upon arrival, was so warm and helpful. The house was comfortable and well appointed. It had everything we needed. We especially loved sitting on the decks with our coffee in the mornings and cocktails at sunset! I would suggest having a car if staying here, although not coompletely necessary. We did walk into town a few times along the beach, which was lovely! The only thing we didn't love was the amount of construction that was happening in the neighborhood. It could get noisy at times, but we generally weren't bothered by it too much. Overall this was a great place to stay in Loteto!
We just returned from our visit to Loreto. We went to see the Blue Whales and were not dissapointed. We took the tour of Isla Coronado with the hope of seeing the whales and our Captain was able to locate them within the first 30 minutes. We were also able to spot whales from the rooftop deck of the Casa. We very much enjoyed relaxing at the house, especially on the front patio with the great views of the sea and mountains. The neighborhood is very nice and we enjoyed watching local workers and neighbors doing various repairs and improvements to their homes. Also, the neighbors were friendly and helpful with any questions we had. Town is just the right size for walking and exploring on foot. With no car the first 2 days we were able to walk to town and get to restaurants and grocery stores in about 20 minutes. The malecon is very nice for a walk to the marina. We got to know all the town dogs on our walks too. So many cute dogs! The local merchants couldn't be nicer and we never had a bad meal. In fact we had some of the best fish tacos and pasta I've ever had. We also enjoyed visiting the missions and going up to Mulege when we had a car. We were so glad we chose to rent this house in town as opposed to staying in Nopolo as we really enjoyed being close to town and the marina. I would recommend this house to anyone for a safe, comfortable, convenient stay in Loreto. I almost forgot to mention how comfortable the beds are! All four of us agreed the beds were perfect. This house has everything you will need for a very nice stay in a great small town.
We stayed in a beautiful house for 4 weeks, located one kilometre north of Loreto, Mexico. We rented the two bedroom top floor, which was almost 2000 sq. ft. In area. Two spacious bedrooms with king sized beds, each with a full bathroom. The house was beautifully furnished, and clean. All the amenities were in full working order, including stove, fridge, dishwasher, micro-wave, barbecue, satellite TV, DVD player, radio, and wifi. The 4 beach bicycles were lots of fun to do our shopping and site -seeing in town. The 3 kayaks were also excellent, easily transported to the beach 50 meters from the house, on a small rolling trailer. There are many good restaurants in town, and the local Mexican people are delightful. The neighbours were friendly and helpful, as the house is in a beautiful enclave where most of the owners are Americans, and many love deep sea fishing. We rented a car for one day only, to drive west across the Baja to the Pacific Coast, to go for a two hour boat tour to see the birthing place for grey whales. Magdalena Bay is the grey whale nursery from January to March each year. The weather was approx 70 to 74 degrees, most days, perfectly comfortable.
