About Paul Mabie

Your Hosts Gordon, Pat and Paul Mabie. My wife Pat and I spent 24 years in the U.S. Army. After we retired we moved to Bozeman, MT to be closer to the grandkids. We are RVers who love to travel. We spend our summers in Montana and our winters in Key West, Florida. We are delighted to be able to offer our vacation rental home to guests who want to visit Southwest Montana. Gordon has recently become a Marriage Officiant and is able to conduct weddings. at Point of View

Paul Mabie purchased this house in 2004

Why Paul Mabie chose Yellowstone

Our son, Paul, wanted to purchase a home in Montana. We joined in the purchase with him. We fell in love with this home and its location on the Yellowstone River.

What makes this house unique

You can fly fish from the river bank, swim (life preservers recommended) play horseshoes, float the river in a tube, boat, raft or life preserver, picnic or just relax and watch the river flow by. Deer use the 800 acre undeveloped land next door to the south as a river crossing. There is a bald eagle that fishes and patrols the river. White pelicans float downstream often.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The availability of your property afforded us our first Montana Christmas after seventeen years of visits to the Big Sky Country.

“Peace I ask of thee O River

Peace Peace Peace

When I learn to live serenely

Cares will cease

From the hills I gather courage

Visions of the days to be

Strength to lead and faith to follow

Till all are given unto me

Peace I ask of the O’River

Peace, Peace, Peace”

With our gratitude,

Love the location and function of this home. The view is amazing.

We enjoyed our stay. Paul, the owner, was very helpful and checked to make sure everything was like we expected. The lay-out of the house is amazing and we loved the sunroom. It is also pet friendly with great trails to hike on right out the back door. Paul mentioned the plan on the up-coming replacement of a few things. Once these are done, we will be giving this home 5 stars.

Beautiful property - comfortable home - very relaxing

  • 4 of 5

My family of six adults and one very energetic 8 year old enjoyed a Thanksgiving stay of four days at Point of View. Because we could not arrive before dark the first night (WED) of our stay, we all elected to arrive on Thanksgiving morning, even though we still had to do all of our cooking. We were delighted to find that the very clear directions were spot-on, and the house was toasty from the very efficient wood pellet stove when we arrived. We marveled at the beauty of the interior and the stunning outdoor scenery through the glass of the (heated) sun room overlooking the Yellowstone River, then pitched into cooking Thanksgiving dinner. We brought a lot of cookware with us (to be on the safe side), but we found pretty much everything we needed was furnished. The kitchen area is spacious and well-designed. The only negative is that the appliances are somewhat dated and need replacement. Nothing real major, but things like the coffeemaker malfunctioning (causing the brewer to overflow and spill a half pot of coffee on the floor), and the dishwasher door falling to the floor (instead of having a working spring-loaded door) almost caused a couple of minor accidents. All of the appliances really need replacement, and then the kitchen would be just as impressive as the rest of the house. Otherwise, the attention to detail and the furnishings were first class. The three bedrooms were plenty spacious for our family of seven, and (as advertised), a couple of kids could sleep on the sun porch if the room was needed. It was a great location for our Thanksgiving and my daughter's 40th birthday celebration. We spent a 1/2 day at nearby Chico Hot Springs (delightful, even with air temp of 10 degrees F), drove down to Mammoth Hot Springs another day, and took our two energetic dogs for long walks each morning in Big Sky country. Even though we are NW MT residents, this part of the state is truly Paradise - stunning in every direction!

Family getaway

  • 4 of 5

Nice comfortable home with spectacular views and river access. Cleanliness and maintenance were not the best though not unacceptable, and there were a few items that could use attention. We were there during fall weather so didn't spend as much time outdoors as we would have preferred. Indoors was very pleasant, warm, secure and peaceful.

Awesome 40th birthday celebration and family reunion.

  • 5 of 5

This house is wonderful. It is an older home with a new addition of a fantastic sun room. The home is very comfortable and has everything you need. The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is nice with a great island. There are nice Television sets but we never turned them on.

This location is off the charts. The view of the Yellowstone is fantastic. Sipping your coffee in the hammock chairs is a spect ulnar way to start the day. Then their is the awesome fly fishing out your back door. We had wonderful family walks on the carrage trail and the kids played on the banks of the river for hours. Badminton and family soccer games were a hit as well.

Of course there is Chico. We had a wonderful 2 hour soak and the adults, minus grandma, returned for music and shuffle board Saturday night. Food is great there as well. We were not even tempted by the food this visit because we enjoyed awesome family meals prepared in our kitchen with choice of two large dining areas.

Paul is great to work with as well!

Phenomenal Views & Owner Communication... a great place to be inspired.

  • 4 of 5

We hosted an office retreat here to close out our 2015 and kick off our 2016 season. The meeting area was ideal for this purpose. It boasts floor to ceiling windows allowing for views in every direction (that matters) -- a bright and airy space that cultivates good vibes. Since this was the primary space in which we spent our time, we had a lovely experience.

It should be noted that the rest of the home is more dated and darker than the meeting space. It does have an open layout, but compared to the bright and newer meeting space, the rest of the house just falls a little short (example: the door for the dishwasher must stay locked or it will fall violently open resulting in many banged up knees and scraps when trying to catch it).

Communication with the owner(s) was above and beyond. It was the deciding factor in our research for locations. They worked around our schedule and needs and gave us a walk-around tour with added history of the area.

Thank you!
