Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you Terry & Mary Susan Kernan for allowing us to spend Christmas weekend at your lovely home in St. Leonard. You went out of your way to make our stay comfortable and warm. And thank you for answering our calls and helping us get acquainted with the property and the surrounding communities. The house is huge and so complete. Everything we needed was there, and then some. Night one our kids got into blackjack game that went on and on.

Good place and easy transaction

  • 5 of 5

The place was nicer than we expected, a lot of rooms and many amenities. The owner was very easy to work with, very agreeable and reasonable. We had a great time in the pool, enjoying bonfire on the beach and eating lots of crabs. The place was cozy and the neighbors were all very nice. It was great that there was no crowd on the private beach so we were able to relax, although the water was not suitable for swimming.

Thanks for a great time!

Quiet beautiful location!

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying here for an extended July 4th trip. The close walking distance to your private beach was unbelievable. Plenty of room for extended family and children. Kids loved the board games and blackjack table. We all loved the pub! Very impressed and hope to visit again. Thanks for your hospitality. Only wish is that towels were provided, as we were flying with 7 people and towels took up valuable luggage space.

A spacious home for a family reunion!

  • 5 of 5

My siblings from Colorado and I were looking for a place to gather when our niece graduated from St. Mary's College of Maryland. There were a bunch of us: my sister and her husband, my brother, and my wife and three kids. With two king bedrooms, one queen, and the "bunk house" for the kids, the Fox Hat was the perfect place for us to spread out.

The house looks deceptively small from the front, but the split-level floor plan makes it spacious, with ample room for gathering as a group, or to catch up one-on-one. After the trip the kids told us it was the best place we'd ever stayed!

The kitchen setup was especially nice because we were able to host a wonderful pre-graduation cookout for our niece, our other sister and her husband, and his parents — all of whom were staying at hotels in St. Mary's City. We even brought our old German shepherd along, and took him for long walks on the beach.

When I contacted Terry and Mary Susan a couple times ahead of our trip, they were easygoing and generous with information about the house.

The whole experience was so easy and hitch-free that we all agreed we should reunite again in a year. I would strongly recommend the Fox Hat to anyone looking for a place to gather!

Short term rental while building .....

  • 5 of 5

We utilized this house as a temporary residence while building a home down the street. We stayed for approx. 4-5 months. The house was great. Filled with charm and character. Nothing better than walking out the door and just down the street to the beach. On the nicer days (we were there over the winter), it was a sight to watch the boats heading in and out of the marina just across the street. The house was very clean, all items were in good working order and the layout was very spacious (surprisingly). All in all - we were very happy and fortunate to find this place and find an owner who was willing to work with us for our extended stay.

Even though we are now in our "full time" house just up the road, we will be looking to book a weekend or two with some friends and family to enjoy this place in the summer months.

Great Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time, the house was even better than the pictures! We had a group of 8 young adults and 2 old "fogeys" the young ones had plenty of space to be entertained until late in the night. And us old folks had plenty of space to have early morning coffee! We would definitely come back and recommend to others. Thanks to the Kernans.

Best fun our families had

  • 5 of 5

Hi Kerry, first of all i would like to thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home.

we stayed in Kerry's home on Memorial day weekend in 2015 with 2 other families and everyone just loved it.

HOUSE:

The house is beautiful and very spacious. kids love theeir own section of the house and game room.kitchen is very spacious and had everything we needed.

We tried the Bar but we mostly satyed in the main house.

BEACH:

The beach is great, and since this is a private beach, shared by only the residents tit is very peaceful and no crowds. house is only 1 minute walk to the beach, so very convenient.

As the Grilling and Bonfire is allowed on the beach, we did Grilling and Bonfire and danced around it in the night .

also the ocean is very calm no big waves at all and knee deep for kids (my kids are 8 and 12) for about 30-40 yard.

HOST:

Kerry is the best and most acomodatable host we had, we use a lot of homeaway and Airbnb. he was there to asnwer and help us at anytime i know we made a lot of calls to him asking for stuff.
