About Joe Senger

Hi, we are Joe and Lin. Until fifteen years ago, we lived in Iowa dreaming of a southerly retreat during the long Mid-Western winters. We dreamt of a place that would offer us a climate we could actively enjoy year round, that our grown children would love to visit, yet also a place that would create great memories for our young grandchildren. For us that means hiking, fishing, lakes, more fishing, relaxing views, community festivals and plenty to do outdoors – like fishing! Murphy, North Carolina is now our adopted home and we are pleased to say, our kids and grand kids all love it here!

Joe Senger purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Joe Senger chose Hayesville

On our first Appalachian vacation many years ago we found the getaway we (then as Mid-Westerners) had always dreamt of: mountains, lakes, temperate weather, sweeping views, and welcoming all-American neighbors. This lake house has all of these and everything else we love about North Carolina living. It gives us a way to share with our family and with guests from all over America and the world what we love about our chosen home. It is our family’s pride to pass on this experience on to you.

What makes this cottage unique

Unparalled relaxation, and one of the best docks on Lake Chatuge. Championship level fishing, almost 200 feet of private deep water lakeshore / beach. Amazing mountain vistas and sunset views from the elevated private lakeside firepit and covered porch. Really fast wifi! This lake gave us the best of what the area had to offer: full access to a world class fishing lake with the privacy and tranquility of being in a cove. Great views of the mountains framed by trees. Family owned and operated with pride.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We so enjoyed staying in this wonderful cabin! No need for A/C as the shady trees kept the cabin at comfortable temperatures during our entire trip. Enjoyed having meals outside on the screened in porch with scenic lake views. Also had fun playing Foosball and air hockey in addition to watching some DVDs downstairs. The snacks provided at check in were appreciated. Had a FANTASTIC time down at the lake. Beautiful views and warm swims were enjoyed by all! Kayaking was a great way to relax too, especially early morning! Thanks again for a wonderful time in your cosy cabin. We hope to come back soon.

Serene scenery and quiet

  • 4 of 5

The lake home has plenty of space inside and outside for a family of 4-7. The screened porch, multiple outdoor seating for a lake view, and fire pit were our favorites. The marina in Hiawassee was nearby for water rentals and we would have had items delivered to the home’s dock if there was more time. Great home for summer swimming. The kitchen is outdated and the home could use a deep cobweb cleaning. The beds were great. Bathrooms on both levels. Outdoor eating area. We enjoyed the atmosphere and a great getaway for a short weekend. The owner was easy to contact. Wish we would have visited during the summer months for full use.

Beautiful tranquil vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

We were thrilled when we first arrived. It was everything that we expected and more! The view of the Lake is spectacular. The cabin is located above the Lake and is very accessible with gentle steps and rests all the way to the waterfront. At night the path is lighted by motion detectors. For those of us with mobility issues, there is a driveway down to the water that allows for an easy walk to the dock and swimming area. We really enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the area. Everyone that we met was friendly! For a really nice dinner go to the Copper Door in Hayesville for dinner!

Thank You Joe!

We had a very nice vacation!
