The Robin's Nest is a cottage home surrounded by decks and a lovely flower garden and located in the heart of the Point Reyes National Seashore.
The Robin's Nest was built as a hunting and fishing retreat in the 1920's when people came to the area by boat, train and stage coach. It is located in a residential area overlooking Tomales Bay in a sun belt. It is 3 miles from the Point Reyes National Seashore headquarters and the park trail system. It is 2 miles from the town of Point Reyes Station which is the regional center(although only has a population of 500) with restaurants, an excellent grocery store and various shops. The Point Reyes lighthouse is approximately 15 miles out to the coast and provides an excellent vantage point where the whales pass by twice a year .
Inverness Park and the Robin's Nest are 38 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge so it is readily accessible to San Francisco. Because it is located in the National Seashore and along the coast line, it is in a protected zone so the surroundings are rural even though so close to the urban attractions of the Bay Area.
The house has a living room, dining area, kitchen, two bedrooms and two baths. A third bedroom and bath are located in a separate smaller building behind the main house. The two buildings are totally surrounded by approximately 900 square feet of decking which allows for taking full advantage of the outdoors.
There is a sauna and one of the bathrooms in the main house has a steam bath, so getting the ache out after a long run or hike is no problem.
The house is well equipped with a gas grill, TV and VCR (no cable), and comfortable furniture and art work reflecting the Latin American travels of the owners. The kitchen has necessary cooking equipment, a new self cleaning electric stove and basic cooking condiments.
The house is heated by a Vermont castings wood burning stove and there is plenty of fire wood. Electric heaters are available to supplement the wood stove while it heats up.
We want to thank you for sharing your fabulous home with us over the holidays. We had a wonderfully relaxing time there. We loved everything about it: the location, your beautiful artifacts, the view, the comfortable furniture, the separation of space. Not to mention the steam shower! What a great way to warm up after hiking in near freezing weather.
Thanks so much.
We stayed about 7 weeks at the Robin's Nest with our two little ones and cannot recommend it highly enough. From the beautiful, quiet environment to the cozy, comfortable, and clean house fully stocked with lovely linens and all the kitchen equipment you could want, to the gorgeous natural light and plethora of decks on which to sip coffee and listen to the birds, to the warm wood stove, this was an ideal spot. Rob and Grace were so helpful and kind to our family and made our stay even better than expected (and we knew it would be great!). We can't wait to go back and would give this sweet, cozy cottage 10 stars if possible!
We spent four days with our daughter and son-in-law at the Robin's Nest. The house is charming and cozy and very comfortable, and the cottage behind offers privacy for two couples. The location is great with easy access to many of the glorious hikes in Point Reyes.
Sitting on the deck and watching the fog lift in the early morning is a special experience. This is our second stay, and we will certainly return.
Robin's Nest was perfect. We were two couples, visiting the Pt Reyes area to hike. The cottage has two bedrooms, each with a queen bed. One has a private bath with shower, and the other has a bathroom across the hall with large bathtub (no shower). There is also a separate small cottage at the back of the property with a double bed and private bathroom with shower. Beds were really comfortable.
The living room was really comfortable, with lots of seating and even a window seat/bench where you could sit and enjoy the view. We normally would not care about the TV, but it was nice to have it so we could watch a travel video to help plan a trip we're sharing. There is a nice deck where you can read or have coffee and enjoy the views, and seating in the sweet little garden in front.
Kitchen was small but functional. We just used the coffee maker and microwave, but looks like there is everything there to cook if you want.
The cottage is in Inverness Park in a neighborhood. Street is narrow, but there were two parking spaces assigned to the cottage. Location is close to Pt Reyes visitor center and a small market.
Grace was super to deal with. We never met her, as she gives you directions and how to get into the house when you rent. It was nice to be on our own timetable and not have to meet anyone at a specific time.
We come to Pt Reyes area to hike every year and would definitely stay in Robins Nest again. We highly recommend it.
My family and I had a wonderful time in this hidden gem. The house recommendation came from a friend's friend so I really had no idea what to expect. The photos on-line do not do it justice as it is a beautiful place, with an amazing view! The cottage was roomy enough for the four of us when we needed space yet cozy when we wanted to come together. The cottage was very clean, beds were super comfortable and they even provided us with soaps, paper products, etc. (a welcome sight as we had been travelling all over CA for our trip). Please do yourself a favor, stay here on your visit, it is absolutely worth it. In retrospect, I wish we had booked the cottage for the duration of our trip to California and ventured out for day trips or overnights from there. We definitely plan on going back.
We spent a few days here last summer, unlike the last reviewer had no trouble finding the place, although it could be kind of tricky if it was dark. It is a lovely place, funky in the best sense of the word. It was very clean, very cozy, and very comfortable. We would go there again in a moment. We had a great meal at Nicks Cove and a few other places as well. It is right near Point Reyes Park and lots to do there.
Beautiful cottage, spacious, quiet location and well-maintained.
It was difficult to find though as the route description assumed Highway 101 as the route to get there, not Highway 1. There was no mention of the town, only the street, so we assumed it was Inverness but this combination did not show up on the GPS. It took many phone calls to finally get a hold of the owner around noon, when she told us it might come up under Point Reyes (which it did).
The view on Tomales Bay was hard to see from the garden, and Tomales Bay was not much more than a mud pool when we got there. The drive out to the ocean was spectacular though, as were the views from the lighthouse when we finally got there.
I'm not sure about restaurants in the area, we cooked ourselves.
A car is mandatory - if you can get a 4-wheel-drive, even better.
