About Julie Orrell
Hi, I'm Julie and this is my son Tarquin. We bought Beaufleury back in 2010, it underwent a huge renovation to be what it is today. Thanks to Tarquin's Daddy, Pieter. We hope you enjoy all the love we have put into it.. It's a house that a family can enjoy! A little slice of life in France...!
Julie Orrell purchased this House in 2010
Why Julie Orrell chose Saint-Jean-de-Marsacq
We fell in love with Beaufleury, It was obviously once a beautiful and much loved home but it had fallen into a sorry state of repair and was in much need of some love and attention.
What makes this House unique
The villiage of St Jean was a perfect choice for us, with small, friendly community. A good school and epicerie and boulangerie in the very pretty villiage centre. We have magnificent countryside and forests on our doorstep, yet still only 15mins from the coast. The basque hills are only an hour away and we can be in the Pyrenees mountains skiing in an hour and a half.

Beautiful house and location
Had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful house. Absolutely perfect set up for families and Julie and her husband were so welcoming and helpful. It's such a fantastic area with so much to see and do within a short drive. Would absolutely recommend and will definitely be back!
Thank you Michelle, lovely to know you had super holiday.. perfect guests, your welcome to return anytime!
Beautiful home and location
This was a truly amazing property, as soon as you arrived you felt comfortable as it had lovely home comforts and that outside space was stunning. Julie was very welcoming and was always happy to provide recommendations for local beaches and places to visit. You would definitely need a vehicle to visit the wonderful beaches and towns, but, trying to drag the children away from the fabulous pool at the house meant we rarely left until after midday. This house is a true gem and with wonderful hosts you would be guaranteed a fantastic holiday.
The pleasure was ours, impeccable guests.. We are very glad you enjoyed Beaufleury and all Les Landes has to offer!
French village with lots ot do
We really enjoyed Beaufleury. Well laid out and clean. There was a local shop in the village 5 mins walk away where everyone went and only French was spoken. The local river was brilliant with canoeing and cycling - again all in French, and a real contrast to the coast which had its usual inundation of tourists. We went on several walking trips in Pays Basque, degustation a trip to San Sebastian. And it was warm and sunny!
If you love old houses and their special character , you shouldn't miss this one! The owners did a great job in renovating this old maison du maître.
We (my husband, three adult kids and I) enjoyed every minute in this clean and well-maintained beautiful old house in quiet Saint Jean de Marsacq.
The very friendly owners and their pets provided a very good customer service during our stay.
Numerous beaches and so many other interesting places and cities can be reached by car in less than 30 minutes.
For sure not our last vacation on this property!
So very glad you enjoyed your stay at Beaufleury! Impeccable guests, welcome to return anytime....
Thank you for a beautiful vacation
We enjoyed every hour of this vacation with a lovely renovated house and wonderful weather. When you love big waves, good food and nice people you must book this house :-)
We only missed a big table outdoor for the whole group!
We love Beaufleury!

Aquitaine is in the South West corner of France and renowened for its relaxed and laid back lifestyle with long, open sandy beaches, world class surf & vast pine forests. Its stretches from the Massif Central in the north down to the Basque border with Spain in the south. Inland are the beautiful areas of Lot-et -Garonne and the Dordogne.
The South West of France is famed for its cuisine with the fine wines of Bordeaux, the surrounding vineyards and picturesque towns such as St Emilion. Landes is renowned for its duck and goose foie gras, confit, pates and terrines. St Jean de Luz is known for fresh fish and seafood second to none and oysters from Archachon are the best. Bayonne is famous for its ham and lastly Perigord for the truffle.
Things not to miss are the city of Bordeaux, a world heritage site, with the Aquitaine vineyards and chateaux. Archachon and the Dune de Pilat the Landes pine forests, beaches and trails. The stunning Basque Country where the mountains meet the sea with it's typical picturesqe Basque style. Biarritz and St Jean de Luz are popular seaside resorts near the border with Spain. Bearn, and its elegant capital Pau, give a whole new area to explore inland with the picturesque towns of Salies-De-Bearn and Sauveterre-de-Bearn, the fortified wall town on the Gave d'Oloron.
St Jean de Marsacq is a small village with a Boulangerie/Epicerie and a Superette, ideal for fresh bread, croissants and milk. The locals play boules outside the village hall and all the town gather frequently throughout the summer for fêtes and feasts. The village centre is a 5-10 minute walk.
For a larger range of shops and amenities, St Vincent de Tyrosse is 5 minutes by car. There is an excellent supermarket, boucherie, poissonerie, florist etc and weekly market on Friday mornings. St Vincent de Tyrosse also holds the Course Landaise in the bullring throughout the summer. This is the local and more humane form of Spanish bullfighting.
St Jean de Marsacq is 15/20 minutes from Hossegor with its fabulous beaches and international surf festivals. Hossegor has great boutique shopping, bars and restaurants, and the top ranking Hossegor golf course. Closer is the even more stunning Golf de Seignosse. Set amongst pine forests it has been voted the best golf course in France by the Association of British Tour Operators for France and is in the world's Top 50 courses.
For smaller children, or those that don't like the larger waves that make it great for surfing, there is a large inland salt-water lake. Hossegor has been a popular resort since the 1930's and grand houses were built along the lake's edge. The lake is also to home to oyster beds and the fresh oysters are for sale around the lake.
The World Pro surfing championships are held In Hossegor every year around August although the water stays warm enough to swim and surf through Autumn. In fact, the 200km or so of unspoilt coastline along the Cote Landaise and Cote D'Argent has something to offer everyone including cycling through the pine forests, walking, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and kite-surfing.
There are cultural interests to enjoy in the stunning cities of Biarritz, Bayonne, St Jean de Luz and Dax. Biarritz and Bayonne have a wealth of historical influence in France plus great cuisine and up-market shopping. The border with Spain is less than an hour away and the Basque towns of St Jean de Luz and St Sebastian are hugely recommended. For Foodies San Sebastian Pinxtos are not to be missed. There are gastronomic tours for the serious foodies out there. The Guggenheim museum in Bilbao is also well worth a visit.
Both Biarritz and Dax are natural spa towns with renowned thalassotherapy centres.
The Pyrenean foothills inland boast spectacular scenery.. even more so for those who are prepared to put on their hiking boots !
