About Caroline Bonfils de Belle
I am an artist sculptor and I live in Burgundy not far away from Beaune. With my husband, we renovated the Maison de l’Oiselier to have a pied-à-terre in Beaune because we are in love with this town, its architecture, its sweet life and the completely exceptional atmosphere of its nightlife (what a pleasure to dine in a nice bistrot even at 11:00 p.m.) We also love good Burgundy wines and we have many wine-growers among our friends.
Caroline Bonfils de Belle purchased this House in 2015
Why Caroline Bonfils de Belle chose Beaune City Centre
If we chose this house and not another one it is because it has a soul. Actually, the Maison de l’Oiselier is composed of 2 houses, one from the Middle Ages with its timbering and another one from the Renaissance with its mullioned windows with stone lintels. Today they are connected by glass roof that overlooks the old indoor courtyard. A passage, that has been walled, used to lead to the Charity Chapel and the Hospice. It used to be the accommodation of the sweet Sisters of Charity who looked after the orphans. “Everywhere you could see their white cornet wimple, their pure face… Wherever there were tears to wipe, they could be found.”
What makes this House unique
When I travel, I love comfortable beds and seeing beautiful things around me. I furnished our house so that several people can feel great in it (2 or 3 couples of friends) but also to provide enough privacy to everyone. Stroll in the cobbled streets, be amazed in front of the facades of the hotels, the charm of a shaded square, visit a museum, visit the market, etc. In Beaune, there is all this and much more. This is why we often invite our friends at Maison de l’Oiselier. We share these wonders with them. Our travelling guests who choose our house for their stay are welcomed as friends. I especially love to meet people. Beaune is a touristic town with great people: restaurant owners, cellar men, oenology and cuisine teachers, antique dealers, personal chef, touristic guides, etc. I know a few of them and I would be happy to offer activities that suit the tastes of our new “friends”.

A rare opportunity
We were two couples, wine collectors all, who stayed in Caroline's beautiful and well maintained house in the centre of Beaune for almost a week in early October. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We found this large house beautifully decorated and appointed, pretty well everything worked (rare in rental houses in our experience) and the location was excellent. I particularly enjoyed Caroline's own whimsical art pieces and the the open air patio on the top floor, not to mention the real wine cellar to enjoy tasting in a truly burgundian environment..The bells became friendly once we knew when they were coming (not rung at night) and we found the whole stay relaxing (great beds) and rewarding. Caroline herself was very pleasant, easy to deal with and very helpful with advice on restaurants and other local features. Overall we agreed this was a special place and we look forward to returning.
Many thanks for this lovely review. You touched me deeply.
You have valued our efforts to have everything working well. Indeed, that is the least I can do for the respect and the welfare of my guests.
I have in heart to receive my hosts the best in the world. Having the chance to host you has been an enriching experience for me and I do hope you'll come back.I send you my best regards. Caroline
Beautiful house; ideal location; charming host. Thanks Caroline!
Cannot recommend la Maison de l’Oiselier highly enough - you will love it!
Many thanks David. You and your three friends are charming guests. I was happy to host you and organize your tasting class in the cellar. I could hear your laughter while preparing cheeses and charcuteries for your "sur le pouce" dinner. No doubt, You have appreciated.
Hope you'll be back some day!
Fabulous week in Beaune
La Maison de l'oiselier is a lovely property right in the middle of the most picturesque part of Beaune. Restaurants, shops, the most loved and interesting places to visit are all within easy walking distance. Caroline Beaufils de Belle is a terrific host and will organize wine tours, walking tours, cooking lessons, restaurant reservations, etc for her guests. Beaune is exceptional and La Maison de l'Oiselier is an exceptional pied à terre for any visit.
Beautiful home in an excellent location
This property is beautiful and is located in the heart of Beaune with easy access to restaurants and shopping. Caroline welcomed us with snacks and drinks that she purchased for us so we could settle in for our first night. Beaune is a warm and friendly town and we hope to return some day.
Caroline is amazing! What a fantastic property. Outstanding location!
Dear Brian? Thank you so much. I can't say enough how much I enjoyed meeting you and your mother who had her anniversary beeing celebrated in Beaune this year. You choosed our house especially for that event. Outstanding visitors! It vould be great to have you back!
Great location, wonderful hostess
Caroline was the most gracious hostess we could ask for. She greeted us when we arrived and gave us a good overview of the area.
She also did a cooking lesson for our group. We went to the market with her Saturday morning and picked out what we would have for lunch and dinner, then went back to the house and Caroline showed us how to make a beautiful meal. Don't miss out on this opportunity!
Again can't say enough good things about the house, the town of Beaune or our hostess Caroline!
Thank you so much Steve.
Once again let me tell you how a pleasant and joyful experience it has been for me to have the privilege of hosting you, your wife and your friends.
Spending a whole day together and sharing our " french way of life " with such enthusiastic and charming people was a delightful experience.
I do hope you'll be back some day.
Beaune is world famous among wine lovers for its 1400 acres of red wine made from the Pinot noir variety including 790 acres of “premier cru”. The town is located in the heart of a prestigious vineyard with evocative name: Pommard, Corton-Charlemagne, Romanée-Conti, Meursault, Santenay and Savigny-lès-Beaune. A Wine Museum settled in the former palace of the Dukes of Burgundy highlights this wine richness. Beaune is also a town of art thanks to famous men as Nicolas Rolin, chancellor of the Duke of Burgundy during the 15th century. He is the one who decided to build the Hotel-Dieu, former hospital converted into museum. Its colourful roofs with varnished tiles made its reputation in the entire world with also the wine productions of the Hospices that are sold at auction each year. Well before the construction of Hotel-Dieu, the religious connotation was very present in Notre-Dame de Beaune Basilica in the 12th century. Last “child” of Cluny, it is one of the last Roman churches of Burgundy. At the Fine Arts Museum, you can admire many works of art from the Flemish and Dutch schools in the 16th and 17th centuries. It is pleasant to stroll in the narrow cobbled streets of Beaune. The architecture shows its prosperity in the Middle Ages with many half-timbered houses. The hotels show the richness of the town especially wine-growers who made a fortune. You will be surprised by the number of cellars, wine bars and wine-tasting places in the town centre and gastronomy is highlighted in different restaurants. For a little help, in the Maison de l’Oiselier, you will find a book with our favourite addresses. Many festivals will delight the police film, jazz, Baroque Opera and contemporary sculpture lovers. In the surroundings, you can go biking along the Voie des Vignes and go discovering (on foot, by Solex, by 4x4 or during a balloon flight) in the Hautes Côtes de Beaune. If you want to perfect your knowledge of wines or French culinary tradition, you have different opportunities to take lessons. Conviviality, sharing, refinement, character, energy, contemplation, relaxation and evasion: Beaune is all this and much more. For more information, please visit the Tourist Office of Beaune.
