About Tom Ellicott

We are crazy about Highlands and have owned a cabin there since 1998.

Tom Ellicott purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Tom Ellicott chose Highlands

We love the privacy of this cabin. It's the last home in the community and it's the only one with a creek plus a great view. We bought it new and added many custom finishes. It's just a special cabin, you'll see.

What makes this cabin unique

There is nothing like Highlands! The restaurant scene is dynamic, the hiking and waterfalls and cool weather make it very special. Shoot us an email for our restaurant guide. All our guests receive one.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just arrived reluctantly back home in Miami after a lovely two weeks + in Highlands at the Creekside Cabin. What a wonderful place, thank you!

I have to say that we have rented many places over the years and this is one we would definitely rent again. Not only was the location wonderful but it was incredibly well appointed and maintained house. It was truly ideal.

Thank you for providing such a great home for our mountain get away.

Beautiful, relaxing and well appointed home

  • 5 of 5

Stayed in this beautiful home over Thanksgiving week. We loved using the fireplace every night and cooking dinner in the well equipped kitchen. The house was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The location couldn't be better. 15 minutes to downtown Highlands and about 15 minutes in the other direction to Cashiers. I'd recommend doing your grocery shopping at Ingles in Cashiers since Bryson's in Highlands is much smaller and higher priced. Be sure to eat lunch at the Mountain Fresh Grocery and check out the Cashiers Farmers Market (you are guaranteed to see a few gorgeous Golden Retrievers lounging on site)! We visited during the wildfires around this area (none directly in Cashiers or Highlands but in the surrounding region) and weren't able to get to some of the state parks because of fire damage. This didn't impact our trip (although we hated to see the fires and hope that some rain in the area helps out very soon) since there were so many alternate hiking and scenic areas to tour. We loved hiking both Whiteside Mountain and the Satulah Mountain Trail. Both provided amazing views and awesome family pictures. Also, we stayed here for a week and didn't even come close to doing all that this area has to offer. We have stayed in several mountain homes over the years for Thanksgiving... Highlands is hand's down our favorite location so far. We look forward to returning very soon!

The house is perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This home is perfect. Beautifully done with antique oriental rugs and other treasures. Where else could you find a wine chiller in the kitchen? The screened porch was heaven. We do prefer a gas fireplace, but you can kindly accept their "invitation" to pick up all the firewood you want. There is, however, one thing I must mention. This is our second time to stay in the homes on Wildwood Mountain. I did not realize that I could throw a rock from this house and hit the house we stayed in last year....and that is my point. There are probably 5 or 6 homes visible from this house. We were fortunate both years that no one was staying close by and so peace reigned. However, if there were folks staying in the house immediately in front of the screened porch, you would be able to hear every word they said from the porch. That might be fine for some folks, but for us it would make this wonderful home impossible to really enjoy as the beauty of the mountains is the solitude they afford.

Perfect Fall Setting

  • 5 of 5

We are a group of three couples (empty nesters) who go on trip every October together. We had a wonderful time. The cabin was great! The place was spotless when we arrived. We didn't have any problems at all. Some of used the hot tub every night. We would have loved to use the outside fire pit but we saw that western North Carolina is having drought conditions. Combined with the high winds while we were there, we figured it was wiser to just enjoy the inside fireplace. The cabin is quiet cozy. The pictures are pretty spot on. The kitchen is well equipped. There are plenty of extra towels and bedding available. We were all very impressed with the cabin. The cabin is very conveniently located between Highlands and Cashiers. We would love to stay at this cabin again. In the area, we enjoyed dinner and music at The Ugly Dog Pub in Cashiers. There is also a place called Reclamations just around the corner from the cabin that is a wonderful place to visit if you have any interest in upcycling items. It's an amusement park for adults. For the nature lover, Dry Falls was amazing. So glad we got to visit it. We also did the hike up to Whiteside Mountain. The views from the top are wonderful! There are so many places to hike, explore or to shop in the area. Thank you for the hospitality!

The most quiet and relaxing house which was very well needed while escaping from Los Angeles! Came to the mountains for a wedding, and we did not want to leave! May try to plan a return trip for a much longer stay! Thank you so much for the hospitality!!!! Plenty of room, cozy, and welcoming!!!!
