About Tom Ellicott

We are crazy about Highlands and have owned a cabin there since 1998.

Tom Ellicott purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Tom Ellicott chose Highlands

We love the privacy of this cabin. It's the last home in the community and it's the only one with a creek plus a great view. We bought it new and added many custom finishes. It's just a special cabin, you'll see.

What makes this cabin unique

There is nothing like Highlands! The restaurant scene is dynamic, the hiking and waterfalls and cool weather make it very special. Shoot us an email for our restaurant guide. All our guests receive one.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just arrived reluctantly back home in Miami after a lovely two weeks + in Highlands at the Creekside Cabin. What a wonderful place, thank you!

I have to say that we have rented many places over the years and this is one we would definitely rent again. Not only was the location wonderful but it was incredibly well appointed and maintained house. It was truly ideal.

Thank you for providing such a great home for our mountain get away.

This home was perfect for our Families Destination Wedding gathering.

I would recommend this property for sure. It's a great place to unwind with family and friends. Nestled under huge hardwoods, surrounded by Mountain Laurel and beautiful shade loving Hostas and Ferns. The hot tub was very clean and positioned in a great place to enjoy a nice mountain view. The home was well stocked with everything you might need for enjoying a perfect get away.

The cabin is located just 5mi from downtown in the mountains of the highlands and is surrounded by scenic views and trails. The bedrooms are very comfortable, each with a separate bathroom and private sitting areas. The living room and kitchen are large enough for big groups and come fully equipped with anything you would need, even Netflix! The screened-in porch is a nice place to visit and enjoy the beautiful NC weather. We also spent plenty of time in the hot tub and outside firepit in the evenings. All-in-all, our stay was very comfortable and we cannot wait to go back!

Great location close to downtown Highlands

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely two week stay in Highlands NC and thoroughly enjoyed what this quaint high elevation community had to offer, especially the noteworthy restaurants and great shopping.

The house was conveniently located almost in the middle between Highlands and Cashiers. There was a ton of trails, hiking, fishing, etc to do in the area but for those who wanted a slower paced respite, the spa and fire-pit were great additions to the house. There was plenty of room for a family or friends get together even though it was just my husband and I on this trip. The neighborhood felt very safe as your neighbors were visible around you. The drive way was a bit steep but nothing bad to navigate. The views were of the forest around you so if you are looking for long range mountain views this may not be the location for you.

There was every convenience at the home so all we had to bring or buy was food. There were also plenty of routine daily supplies for our trip as well. The furnishing and decor were very well suited for a cabin, not high end but comfortable. The interior lighting was incredible with a named switch for stellar ambiance. You will need to bring or buy your own fire wood however as the big fireplace inside is not gas. A bit of an inconvenience given there is a large fire pit outside the home but used most nights nonetheless.

The 3 bedrooms had plenty of space with each having their own bath. The master bed upstairs was very comfortable and a window unit a/c added extra coolness at night when needed. While there was a canoe at our disposal it was a bit confusing how to go about using it so you may want to ask ahead of time for instructions.

Hands down our all-time favorite rental in the Highlands

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I are from ATL, and we have rented several properties in the Highlands over the years. Our feeling upon leaving Creekside Cabin just last week was simply: we need to plan our next trip to the Highlands well enough in advance to ensure we can stay at Creekside Cabin!

I read an earlier review of this property that included a statement that the renters had stayed in the good, the bad, and the ugly in the Highlands area. Count us in that group. We've stayed at good places, OK places, and bad places. Creekside Cabin is not good, it is not OK, and it is certainly not bad; it is AMAZING.

As the house is conveniently located between Highlands and Cashiers, we were able to easily head in to either town for groceries, farmer's market, dinner out, etc. It is also more convenient to most of our favorite trail heads than rentals closer to downtown Highlands. It is in a quiet community with extraordinarily friendly neighbors, two of whom spontaneously invited us over for drinks (we accepted) upon seeing us walking our dog. We learned over drinks, among other things, that the neighbor was one of only 5 folks to have attended all 50 Superbowls, and he had an amazing photo album (including pics of him wearing various players' Superbowl rings, etc.) to show for it!

As for the property itself: it is an extremely well-appointed, quiet home with ample sleeping for about three couples plus kids. As it was just me and my husband, we felt the place was enormous. The pictures don't lie, as some pictures on this site can. Huge, screened-in porch with grill, hot tub clean and well-maintained, unobstructed mountain views, large master with king bed and bath on main (very comfortable bed); queen bed on main as well with attached bath; suite on top floor with another king bed, a kid's bed, and another master bath.

We cooked (well, I did) in the open kitchen on nights we didn't go out. The kitchen has everything one would need, and it looks directly out into the family room, so you don't feel isolated while cooking. We watched movies while I cooked-- the cabin has all premium channels and Tivo.

One other thing we really appreciated was that we had *no* issues with internet or cell (Verizon) service. That was huge as we were both "working" remotely somewhat during our stay. In our experience, it is rare to have fast internet and no cell issues in the Highlands.

The only way to go wrong with this property is to miss out on renting it. 5 stars!

Perfectly appointed and tucked away in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Creekside cabin! Perfect for girls weekend and we enjoyed the fire pit and hot tub amenities very much. The kitchen is well-appointed and there were plenty of extra towels and other essentials. We did have a challenge with the television cable and when we notified the property owner, he responded quickly and sent a service man who fixed it quickly. Thank you for a great weekend!
