About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

'We love nothing more than relaxing on the deck or screened porch of StarGazer Lodge on a pleasant evening and trying to count the stars. We always lose count long before we're done.'

If wonderful views and luxuriously appointed accommodations are what you seek, look no further than StarGazer Lodge. Situated above the trees in the gated mountain community of Big Canoe, the house engulfs you in comfort the moment you walk in the front door. As you enter, you are greeted by a massive great room with a huge wall of windows and views that stretch back to Atlanta. As you take in the view, you will find that your entire body relaxes a bit and you are reminded why you have chosen to be here, not there. In addition to the wonderful views, the main floor great room boasts a stacked stone fireplace alongside a fabulous leather seating area. The room also has a large table to seat up to eight and a chef's kitchen featuring granite on countertops and island. The kitchen is well stocked with everything the visiting chef will need to prepare a wonderful meal including a Cuisinart food processor, Kitchenaid Stand Mixer, an excellent blender, and all the cookware, bakeware, and serving pieces to host an elegant meal.

Just off the great room, the beautiful master suite is truly a retreat of its own. With french doors that open onto the screened porch, the already spacious bedroom doubles in size by bringing the outdoors in. All bedrooms at StarGazer Lodge are king-sized and fitted with 400-thread count linens. The master also has a 37-inch Sharp LCD TV with satellite and DVD. The master bath, yet another oasis unto itself, has an oversized garden tub and separate tiled shower with glass surround. Featuring twin vanities opposite each other, the master bath also boasts a huge window overlooking the mountainside. Beyond the bath, the master closet is almost its own room and has plenty of room for all your luggage to be tucked discretely out of view.

The screened porch has a doorway from the great room as well and is furnished with beautiful teak furniture. It opens to an expansive deck with large dining table and gas grill. You can sit out there are watch the sun coming up, the sun going down, all the fabulous stars at night as well as the twinkling lights in the distance. Your stargazing pursuits are assisted by an electronic digital telescope for bringing the moon and stars even closer than they already are. During the day, watch the birds fly right by you and perch in the tops of trees, right at eye level.

Upstairs at StarGazer is a large family room/media room with a Sony 57-inch HDTV with satellite and DVD. There are over 300 DVD's to choose from and a closet full of board games for family fun. In addition to amazingly comfortable sofas for TV viewing, the room has a great gaming table for intense competition or reading a good book. The entire house boasts wireless DSL so, if you have a laptop with a wireless card, you can use the internet anywhere you like. The media room also has a large wall of windows with fantastic views of the mountains all around. Off the media room are two large bedrooms (no need to fight, all rooms have brand new Stearns and Fosters king-size beds) w/bath. Both rooms have wonderful views.

On its own deck off the laundry room is a top of the line hot tub that seats five. Downstairs in the unfinished basement, a complete game room is available for your entertainment. A pool table, foosball, darts, and table tennis provide even more fun without ever leaving the house and will make you want to stay an extra day... or even two. The basement also has a large deck just outside for relaxing.

If you ever do decide to leave the house, the resort community of Big Canoe has much to offer. In addition to 15 miles of hiking trails past beautiful waterfalls and gorgeous nature, Big Canoe has 27-hole golf course that is truly a scenic wonder. With both indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a state-of-the-art fitness center with racquet ball and complete day spa, the adults will have plenty to do while the kids enjoy the Swim Club. One of Big Canoe's most popular amenities, the Swim Club provides an indoor Olympic-size pool, an outdoor pool overlooking the lake, and swimming, beach volleyball, paddleboats, and a rock slide into Lake Disharoon.

If the family chef needs a break, Big Canoe has several dining options to meet your needs. Appalachia Grill, just outside the gates of Big Canoe, is a wonderful dinner option with a full bar and great wine list as well as a wide-ranging menu with something for everyone. It is definitely our top recommendation for dining out! In addition, Lake Sconti Restaurant at the Golf Club serves dinner several nights a week and a champagne brunch on Sunday. For Italian, Piazza is in the heart of Big Canoe at Wolfscratch Village and Trevi Pizzaria is located just a short distance from the gate. Also near Trevi is Fireside Cafe and Pub serving New American fare within an upscale pub atmosphere.

No matter what activities you choose for your Big Canoe vacation, StarGazer Lodge will win your heart and you will want to visit again and again.

About Mark

Hi, I am Mark. I love to travel just like you probably do. I feel so lucky and blessed to own this beautiful home and even luckier to get to share it with you. I am involved in real estate (own and rent long and short term rentals) and my main role is as a handy man. Its a good thing that I am so handy and love to fix things and paint!

My favorite thing is getting to stay at the cabin after some guests have left and reading all the kind, and amazing comments left in the guest book. It feels really good to know that I have brought a little joy and happiness to others!!

Mark purchased this house in 2008

Why Mark chose Dawsonville

Big Canoe really is such a beautiful place. Its the perfect combination of privacy and nature, but at the same time you won't feel like you are in the middle of the woods all alone. There is so much to do from fishing, swimming, canoeing, golfing, and my two favorites..hiking and eating out.

What makes this house unique

What really made me fall in love with Stargazer Lodge was the amazing Great Room and Kitchen! I love fixing dinner, while looking out over our great room. What really puts this room over the top for me is the amazing bay windows and view of the North Georgia Mountains!

Sitting on our back deck eating dinner, really makes me appreciate the calm and serenity of the Mountains. The view during the day is amazing, and I love sitting with my friends and family around this table. If it's getting too sunny, we'll often move to our screened porch for cushioned seating, where you can still have a great view of the Mountains.

At night, the views of the stars are amazing. I love opening the hot tub, and looking up at the stars while taking a nice relaxing dip.

My friends and I love going upstairs to the den for movie night. We love cinema, and keep a ton of DVD's at our homes. We even started showing Netflix due to popular demand, and it's great too! We have a really comfortable sectional sofa that everyone relaxes on, and it really makes a nice touch to a wonderful day hiking, canoeing, and swimming.

Fabulous Mountain Views! Definitely Five Stars All Around!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a family birthday celebration / 3-day weekend here during peak autumn leaf season. The Mountain Views are phenomenal! We loved just sitting on the deck and screened porch - so peaceful & Gorgeous sunrise and sunset views from here too! The house was very spacious with plenty of very comfortable furniture. The beds, pillows and linens were very comfortable & luxurious! There were even nice robes to use! The home had everything we needed and more! Reservation procedures were very easy. Owner Mark was very helpful and pleasant to work with. Keyless entry made arrival and coming and going Simple also - we love the keyless systems for sure! No keys to take or lose. Stargazer Lodge has everything we were seeking and was every bit as wonderful as presented online. The kitchen is actually much larger in person than what can be seen from the pictures, with the huge and handy island great for food prep & gathering around while enjoying the Mountain View at the same time. The home was Very clean and well-prepared for our arrival. It had everything we needed for cooking (see the double pantry/closet between kitchen & laundry room for anything you don’t locate in the kitchen - It’s all there!) We particularly enjoyed hiking on the Big Canoe trails starting at the Cabin Loop access up to the Lower & Upper Falls. Loved the Lower Falls best - great photo site! The “super-hiker” in our party continued to the top of that Trail & was rewarded with a bit of recent snow on the ground and some lovely views from the top of the mountain as well. The home’s telescope was wonderful & we enjoyed seeing the Moon’s craters up close & Clear! The ping pong table at the house was a huge hit as was foosball! There is a billiards table too! Nice library of good books! The game collection is extensive and it was fun to try some new ones we found. Many different kinds of game & something for all ages. The collection of DVD’s is very extensive with a wide variety to choose from as well. We truly enjoyed our autumn mountain getaway in this wonderful and well-maintained home! We loved Big Canoe and its well-maintained and well-marked paths. I highly recommend to ask the guard at the entrance gate for the hiking trails map when you enter as it helps to have one in hand for planning and while hiking. We hope to come back to Stargazer Lodge & Big Canoe again soon! Great experiences to be had here for sure! Thank you, Mark, for sharing your lovely mountain home with us!

Overall was a great place to stay! Owner mark was very attentive and accommodating. There was everything that you could possibly need provided in the home. The community swim club was a major hit for my kids ages 15, 12, 10, and 8! Look forward to staying again in the future!

Very comfortable home. The view is beautiful. I wish they had had a list of the amenities and trail maps of the hikes in the folder they have for guests. It is hard to search the Big Canoe website for these items.
