Overlooking the harbour on Over gang steps, Seldom Seen is one of Brixham's oldest properties. This ground floor Apartment is a converted fisherman's cottage with 2 en-suite bedrooms with a third separate toilet. It is situated less than 2 minutes' walk from the harbour side. It has been decorated and furnished to a high standard and makes a very comfortable holiday home from home. The property overlooks the fish quay and outer harbour and has far reaching sea views.

This cosy apartment is only a few minutes walk to the shops, beaches, marina and is in an ideal location to explore Torbay and South Hams beautiful surrounding coast and countryside!

A Free Parking Permit will be included for stays of 1 week or more between the months of April and September. Parking permit allows parking for free in all Torbay Council Car Parks saving you lots of money! (Subject to the Terms and Conditions stated by Torbay council). The car park is approximately 5 minutes walk away, additionally, there is on road parking approximately 3 minutes walk away on Furzeham Green.

Why Rachel Dooley chose South Hams

Having spent several happy holidays in Brixham we made the choice to move here in 2011. Since moving here we wanted to purchase a property to allow other people to enjoy the charming benefits that Brixham has to offer.

What makes this apartment unique

Seldom Seen is a very old property built in the early 1800s. It has a hugh fireplace and lots of space. The front door has a porthole window that allows you even more views over the outer harbour. The apartment feels like home from home and is extremely cosy.

Fantastic flat in great location with everything you'll need provided...

I am not one to write reviews but I make an exception when I come across something particularly deserving. This is a great flat at a great price. The owner Rachel was very helpful in getting us orientated and giving us local tips. I had my two young children with me so it was important to me that the flat was secure and clean. The flat was this and much more, the bedding was fresh and the beds very comfortable. The flat has been recently decorated to a high standard and it is tasteful and everything you need is right there in the apartment waiting for you; From knives and forks to fun games to play with the children (plus a welcome pack of fudge and biscuits, but don't tell my kids this as they will be annoyed they didn't get any!). The lounge is large and the fireplace is great for a cosy night in. The balcony has a lovely eating area, it's a delightful little space from which to watch the busy port with a glass of wine in the evening. The bathrooms are beautifully appointed and very clean with fast, hot running water. I will definitely be recommending to friends and returning if I get another opportunity. Very clearly deserving of the five stars I have given it.

Fabulous

This is our second stay at Seldom Seen - and we will be back again next year. The apartment has everything you need to make your holiday as comfortable as possible as it is so well appointed.

Comfort is Rachel & Mark's aim and they don't disappoint with their individual touches as fudge,biscuits and all the makings of a welcome cup of tea on your arrival.

Where the the apartment is situated is central so everywhere is with in walking distance and the steps work off any Devon cream teas!!!

This accommodation is so exceptionally clean and comfortable what else could you wish for?

Seldom Seen is an amazing property in a fantastic location. The perfect Brixham holiday home

From our initial booking to the time we left, our time at Seldom Seen and experience with the owner Rachel has been second to none.

The property itself is in the most amazing location, with just a few steps to beautiful Brixham harbour. With fantastic sea views, we spent so much time watching the boats coming and going!

Everything was so clean and tidy, with a selection of games & books to keep everyone occupied if needed.

We spent so much time exploring the area that we weren't at the property all day, but it was the perfect place to come back to and relax.

We will definitely be returning to Brixham, and definitely be going back to Seldom Seen (if it's available!)

Wonderful Stay

The apartment was clean, well equipped, nicely decorated and furnished.

The location is perfect, right on the harbour itself.

The attention to detail in the property is superb, you can see it is well looked after. We had a wonderful time and wouldn't hesitate in returning!

A superp property in a great setting

A really clean, well presented home from home. We had an excellent time here. The apartment was clean, well equiped and plenty of space for 4 adults. Both bedrooms are a decent size. Our two grown up sons had no problems with the second bedroom. We paticularly liked having ensuites and the additional cloakroom was a blessing. The kitchen is well apointed including dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.

The lounge is large and comfy with 2 big sofas, perfect for flopping out after a day exploring or eating in the town. There is a sperate dinning area with table and chairs, where were able to enjoy some fresh local fish, landed that morning, from the fish merchant who is only a 2 minute walk away at the new fish market.

A definate must for sea food lovers. We bought some to bring back and it was all cleaned and vac packed in a polystyrene box.

I would definately recommend this property to anyone wanting a really good apartment in Brixham. Its just away slightly from the main street, which means you dont get the noise, but a 2 minute walk lands you down on the harbour. There are steps, but there is also a slope up from Overgang road. Our old dog managed it quite happily (and so did I).

Rachel and Mike were really helpful and available - we didnt need them, but appreciated the fudge and biscuits they left.

Recommend the Breakwater Bistro around the harbour, just past the lifeboat station. Tip - book, excellent views, particularly upstairs and really good food.

Also visit The Montpellier Tea Room & Cafe Bar. I really enjoyed breakfast there. Tip - have the small breakfast, its enough!. Well cooked and presented, delicious.

We are already considering going back to Brixham next year.

Only 3 ***

Unfortunately, this property does not have any wardrobes, therefore, you have 3 coat hangers and live out of a suitcase for the rest (we could have had more hangers but I don't like having my clothes hanging around me). The second bedroom is only suitable for children even though the room has an en-suite. The kitchen is home from home and the lounge has a nice fire place. although the place was clean it felt damp and smelt funny. I paid more than I would normally so can't help feeling disappointed. It is on a hill which was not really expected having said that it is near the harbour.

Owner's Response: Having received over 40 Five star reviews for Seldom Seem from guests who have enjoyed their stay, we where disheartened to receive only a 3 star review. However, we where not surprised that it came from this particular guest. In the 3 years of running Seldom Seen it was the first time we have needed to seek advice on how to deal with a potential problem guest. We work extremely hard to ensure that our guests have a pleasant stay and do our best to make their stay as enjoyable as possible - as can be seen by the many positive reviews we have received. First thing Sunday morning we received a call claiming the sink was blocked – we rushed straight out only to find that the plug had been left in and infact, it was not blocked at all. At this time the guests then complained about the open hanging space (we offered more hangers but this was refused). They also complained about the lack of a nest of tables in the lounge (until we pointed out that the 2 wooden tabley looking things near the window where infact tables). We also had to deal with the guest’s son being extremely rude to our 17 year old female shop assistant in the shop we own – demanding an extra key to the apartment – a key which we had personally given to the guest some 3 hours earlier. The guest chose to live out of their suitcase as there was no need. The second bedroom has 2 full size beds, dressing mirror and shelf, storage and an en-suite bathroom. There are no Disney posters, teddy bears or toys so it is bizarre as to why this guest considered this to be a children’s room. We assume from the claim that it smelt funny (which it does not) that by this point of the review the guest was grasping at straws for something to complain about. The first line of our description tells you it is ‘Overlooking the harbour on Overgang Steps’ so it is beyond us why the guest was surprised it was on a hill. The property like many other properties around the harbour enjoying sea views is in an elevated position. They received exactly the same service and facilities as described and shown by our advertisement and as every other guest. Hopefully anybody reading this review will realise that once in a blue moon property owners will have a guest that is impossible to please and unfortunately for us this was one of them. We have had many guests return to Seldom Seen over the years to enjoy the excellent service and facilities that we offer at very competitive prices.

Brixham is a quaint fishing town and with colourful houses lining the harbour. It has many cafés, bars, shops and restaurants, including the fish restaurants serving the daily fresh local fish. While fishing is Brixham's main industry, it is also able to provide plenty for the tourist , with plenty of food shops such as the Brixham Deli and the West country Deli, cafés such as Millie & Me, and bar's such as the Old Market House on the harbour. The harbour has a great continental feel, especially in the summer, when you can sit outside and enjoy fish which has been caught that very morning.

The Golden Hind replica sits in the inner harbour and combined with the 500 berth marina and Breakwater, make Brixham a boat lovers paradise. You can learn about the town's maritime history in the Heritage Museum or simply watch the numerous boats coming and going. Brixham has one of the largest working fishing ports in the country, adding to the nautical activity.

There is much more to see and do in Brixham, including the seawater swimming pool at Shoal stone, woodland walks at Churston, and the Napoleonic Fort and Country Park at Berry Head. This nature reserve forms part of the South West Coast Path with stunning views along the coastline.

Brixham has an annual Pirate Festival on the first bank holiday in May. Brixfest (Brixham Heritage Festival) is at the end of May with many attractions including fireworks, Brixham Steam Rally in August and finally Fishstock held in early September is a one day festival to celebrate food and music and everything about fish and fishing.

Torbay has a warm climate and award winning beaches and fantastic walks for you to enjoy.

South Devon is the perfect place for any holiday. Offering both activities and relaxation. It is suitable for cosy couples or family fun, the South coast simply has it all.

Surrounded by many pretty villages like Cockington near Torquay, beautiful beaches such as Blackpool Sands near Dartmouth, breath taking cliffs such as Berry head and Sharkham point and rolling moors of Dartmoor to name but a few attractions it's no wonder South Devon has earned the title as an area of outstanding natural beauty.
