Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms plus large bonus room + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Enjoy fresh mountain air and peaceful atmosphere at Bear Tree Cabin! Cute as a button, it's nestled on the margin of a forest and gets its nickname from an unusual natural formation on a tree in the yard that looks like a bear is hugging it.

Our zip code is Sugar Grove, but the cabin is just 3 miles from the historic Mast General Store in Valle Crucis and is situated near a rural farming neighborhood. Fishing, canoeing or swimming in the Watauga River is 2 miles away. Bring your mountain bike and enjoy the gentle grade of the Watauga River Road ... or for a little more adventure, let our resident mountain bike expert recommend a nearby trail that fits your abilities ...

No A/C needed at our shady spot in the cool mountains of NC. Cabin has ceiling fans in each bedroom and in both living areas to help with those occasional hot days in summer.

Shopping at the historic Mast General Store is only 3 miles away. Restaurants of all types are in nearby Banner Elk, Boone and Blowing Rock as well as a few in the village of Valle Crucis itself. Hiking trails are available onsite or within a short drive.

And during the winter months ... Three ski resorts are within a 30 to 40 min. drive. Cross country skiing onsite is available if snow conditions are right. Snow tubing is an option for the non-skier at some ski resorts nearby. At the end of the day, come 'home' to a relaxing hot tub.

About Angela

A resident of Watauga county for most of his life, owner Jim Henson has traveled around the world climbing mountains including Kilimanjaro, Mt. Elbrus, and Mt. Ranier. He is an avid mountain biker and enjoys playing tennis. He grows Christmas trees on part of his farm, but the vast majority of his 250 acres is woodlands and he has donated a conservation easement on more than half of his land to the Blue Ridge Conservancy. When you inquire, you will be corresponding with Jim's assistant, Angela.

Why Angela chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

After owning the 250-acre farm for over 40 years, Jim decided to build a cabin in 2006 for friends and family to share in the beauty of the location. Valle Crucis is centrally located to Banner Elk, Boone and Blowing Rock.

What makes this cabin unique

Bear Tree cabin gets its name from an unusual natural formation on a tree near the cabin. The wooded surroundings allow for the discovery of many of Mother Nature's wonders! An extensive network of mountain bike trails is not far away.

Beautiful cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We came for the first time to Boone NC for my son's guitar workshop at App State and fell in love with the area and the cabin. The cabin was nicely clean and the beds were super comfortable. We came with my step sister and her family and we had plenty of room. The kids slept in the loft which was more of a third bedroom then loft and we loved that aspect. We all enjoyed the hot tub. Valle Crucis is so charming. We loved the Mast General Store and Over Yonder restaurant and they were only a few miles away from the cabin. The drive into Boone was only 15 minutes. Very easy commute. We hope to come back next year! Thanks again Angela for having us at Bear Tree Cabin!

Enchanting Cabin in the woods.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bear Tree Cabin! When we arrived we were thrilled to be greeted by a fawn grazing in the front yard. The cabin is beautifully decorated, well stocked, and extremely clean. Angela, the caretaker, went above and beyond to ensure that we had a wonderful stay. The location of the cabin was perfect--centrally located to Boone, Linville, Blowing Rock, and Banner Elk. Relaxing during the evenings in the hot tub was perfect after spending days of sight seeing. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful Escape

  • 5 of 5

Our family has stayed at Bear Tree Cabin several times, and it always exceeds our expectations! Angela is so responsive and helpful in getting all the details arranged! Our kids love playing in the cute yard, and the amenities inside the cabin are so accommodating and cozy! In autumn, we have a wonderful time a the local corn maze just down the road! We look forward to returning again soon! Excellent location to escape from the stress of the day-to-day routine!

Thumbs Up from App State Parents

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for the Appalachian Ambassador Family Weekend. Our pre-arrival communications with Angela were friendly and helped us prepare for our trip. We arrived to find the cabin larger than expected, clean, and feeling immediately like home.

Our favorite things:

-the layout...space and privacy for everyone

-the kitchen and grill...well equipped, and we even cooked for our daughter's friends one night

-the quiet...it was so peaceful. We used the super-clean hot tub both nights. We woke to a skiff of snow on Saturday.

-the bedding...comfortable mattresses and nice linens

-the good water pressure...I know this sounds like a little thing, but we have stayed so many places where the water pressure is like a trickle; that was not true here. Good water pressure made for nice showers.

-the location...Valle Crucis is so lovely. We enjoyed the drive in and out. We were about 15 minutes from the main ASU campus. It was a perfect spot. We also enjoyed visiting the original Mast General Store.

Since our daughter is a freshman at ASU, we were hoping to find a cabin that could be our 'home away from home" when we visit Boone over the next four years. Thankfully, we have found it. We'll be back!

This cabin is PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin could not have been more perfect! It is exactly as it is described and ever cuter in person. Angela was amazing through the booking process and she even allowed our group to arrive 2 hours earlier to set up for a surprise. I definitely recommend this property for a nice relaxing weekend- we've already planned another trip!

Cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

We vacationed in this lovely area for a few nights. The cabin was comfortable, well- appointed and warm. Everything you needed was at your fingertips. The setting is quiet and beautiful, especially if you wake to a dusting of snow as we did on a couple of mornings. Angela, its caretaker was very attentive and went out of her way to see that we were well cared for.
