About Michael Owen

Michael and I live in a suburb outside the Philadelphia area. We both work in the health care field. We enjoy hiking, kayaking and beach-combing.

Michael Owen purchased this house in 2007

Why Michael Owen chose Outer Banks

We purchased our canal lot in 2004 after visiting friends in Carova Beach. We fell in love with the area and wanted a bit of paradise. We built the home in 2007 to accommodate our family. We have had many gatherings and good times in the home, celebrating, anniversarys, birthdays and graduations.

What makes this house unique

We love the home because it offers the best of both worlds. We are close to the beach to enjoy the surf. We also enjoy the canal and sound. The home is secluded and in a beautiful natural setting.

Foiled by Matthew

  • 5 of 5

Unfortunately, we were unable to complete our visit to the OBX due to the arrival of hurricane Matthew. This however did not end our relationship with the property owner. During the run up to our departure and the arrival of the hurricane we were receiving regular communications regarding the weather and the likely need to postpone our arrival for several days which we choose to do. As luck would have it once our drop dead date arrived access to the island was still restricted to residents and property owners. Again our relationship did not end. Having purchased travel insurance with our original booking we began the claim process. This turned out to be more difficult than expected. A message to the property owner got us quickly back on track and after jumping through the proverbial hoops we received our refund. The property owner stayed with us through this entire process and we are most grateful. So, while we cannot speak to the beauty of the location or the cleanliness of the property, we can say if those things are in line with the efforts made by the owner on our behalf the property will certainly not disappoint. We will be rebooking.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm glad I was able to assist with the refund thru the insurance company. I know you really wanted to visit to see the horses. Hopefully you we get a chance to book again. Kind regards, Heidi

Rented during potential hurricane (keep reading it is all good)

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I booked this house for 10/4 to 10/11 way in advance and opted out of the insurance for the trip as hurricane season is supposed to end October 1. Three days out from 10/4 it looked like Hurricane Joaquin was going to go right over the house. We made several calls to Heidi to see where our vacation stood and she was more than helpful. My wife and I feel there is no such thing as customer service anymore but that is clearly not the case when it comes to this rental. Heidi eased all our of anxiety about the vacation and also went above and beyond in assisting us with potential travel problems. She was even doing internet research during our travel day (I would not expect this always but we were trying to access the 4 WD area during exceptional circumstances).

I was totally floored with attention to detail by the owners of this property!!

The house is absolutely beautiful and the area is unbelievable. The house was very modern and clean and is set up in such a way that it provided maximum privacy for the renters (great privacy from landscaping). We drove to the location in the worst possible circumstances and access to the house was extremely easy, just follow the directions from the owners.

Had a blast with the kayaks and easily caught 7 crabs in an afternoon while drinking beer on the private/secluded beach.

If you rent, I recommend checking out the sunset by kayak from the bay area which is short paddle stroke away.

Well worth the travel to 4wd area just know going in that you are looking for a laid back and private vacation!!! Thanks so much Heidi this was exactly what we needed! Hope you are still renting in the area in a couple years.

Like nothing else!

  • 5 of 5

What a neat place for a vacation. This was our first time to the outer banks. Corova is the place to be! My kids loved driving up the beach. Wildlife is everywhere. This house is big, clean, modern and comfortable. Plenty of space for everyone. The pool and hot tub are really nice touches. As are the kayaks for exploring the canal system. The owner and management company are both very professional and easy to deal with. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this house and this destination to anyone, as long as they have a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

We will surely be returning. Thank you!

Excellent Property, Great Owners

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 2 weeks in August. The house is in a remote area of the Outerbanks on a canal. It is very quiet and the horses are literally everywhere. It's a big house, but doesn't feel huge. We saw horses everyday either at the house or on the way to the beach. The house was very nice and had plenty of room and was nicely equipped. Cable modem/Wifi was fast for those that have to check in with the office. Kayaks were a nice added touch. One issue we had with the back yard (near the water) was ticks. Not sure if they are always bad, but I feel it should be mentioned. The drive to the beach is about 5-10 min because of the canals. We went over the dune at MM 22.5 and there was never a crowd. Parked our 2 vehicles and put up our canopy between to block any wind. It is so easy if you have a lot of toys (surf boards, kayaks, SUP, etc). We would definitely stay here again. The owners (Heidi) are awesome and very easy to work with. Couldn't ask for a better 2 weeks. Corova Beach is a very unique experience.
