This four year old custom built home offers an open, spacious floor plan with vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors custom kitchen w/tile floors,large master bedroom and bath that offers double vanities, whirlpool tub,seperate shower, his and her closets,and much more. The ground level is paved for storage and parking and also has an outdoor shower. The main floor consists of the family room, dining area, fully equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and laundry room. The loft area separates into two rooms with 2 twin beds and 2 full size cots. Each bedroom offers its own private balcony each with its own spectacular view. The main deck off of the living room and the master bedroom balcony both offer a great Gulf view to watch the sunset. This home is situated on a large wooded lot which makes neighbors a thing of the past.
Located on a deep-water canal, less than quarter mile to gulf. Flats fishing – trout, reds flounder, etc., scalloping less then one mile away. Grouper, snapper, cobia, king fish, etc. make this place the best fishing you can find. Also, fresh water springs offer great swimming just 1/2 mile from boat dock, or take a quick boat ride over to the Wakulla and St. Marks rivers and swim with the manatees in crystal clear waters. Then dock your boat and eat some great local seafood in the town of St. Marks at the river front restaurants.

Because our home city was directly in the path of Hurricane Matthew, we were looking for a place to find shelter from the storm. Carroll's Haven provided that and much more. The owners were very welcoming, helpful , and responsive in making arrangements, and the house itself was beautiful. It has plenty of space -- two large bedrooms and bathrooms, an upstairs loft space perfect for children, an open kitchen, and comfortable living/dining rooms -- and a variety of modern conveniences.
But what really makes this house is the location. It is perched right on the marsh adjacent to Apalachee Bay near Crawfordville in Wakulla County, Florida. The views from the living room, master bedroom, and deck are stunning. You can walk the boardwalk path to the dock for another great view. Plus, the house is in a quiet, secluded area that provides a nice break from the world. And to the west is one of the most beautiful drives in Florida -- along the Gulf Coast to Apalachicola.
While the location is remote, you won't be bored. Tallahassee is only 30 minutes away. Plus, the area has numerous natural treasures to explore -- from Wakulla Springs State Park to St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge to Apalachicola National Forest.
I'll definitely be interested renting this house again sometime in the future, and recommend it to others as well.
We were very impressed on this last minute booking to Oyster Bay. The house sits on a fantastic piece of property with marsh and water views from most rooms and decks. The boardwalk to the floating dock provides more of the same views. The house was clean and accommodating. The owners were easy to deal with and communicated very well.
This was a great rental to take the boat to. We fished, crabbed and scalloped multiple days. There is a boat ramp a few streets over which makes it very easy to do.
Since we had been to the area many times we already knew some of the best things to do. A short hop to Carabelle and Appalachicola (1 hour) give plenty of shopping/dining options. A little closer is Walkulla Springs (cold water swimming for the kids). We also always visit the Spring Creek Restaurant.
Overall, great trip and I highly recommend booking a stay at this house.
First off the pros - the view is spectacular and the location (between St Marks and Panacea) was ideal for what we had planned. It's a very quiet neighborhood. The cons included very slow response time by the owner to answer questions. Usually a day which is fine with setting up the rental but not good when you are on property and trying to figure something out. Another significant issue was the WIFI, the owner caps this such that if you have teenagers, they run through the data in about a day or less - so I wouldnt recommend this property if you have kids with devices. Also, making your way out of the bay is very difficult without hitting low areas. For a house with a dock and this situation, I think the owner should provide a GPS map or clear directions. If you intend on bringing your boat - which we did - you will run into trouble. We arrived mid-week so there was no one around/very few boats going out so we wasted a day trying to figure this out.
We had a great time here. It was the perfect base for our St. Marks birding adventure! Loved eating at Hamanockers! We would definitely stay here again.
This is the second time that we've stayed at this property this year. It is a beautiful house with plenty of room for up to 6-8 comfortably. The house is clean and beautifully maintained. The owner was very good as well to check on us and make sure everything was fine. If you are looking to get away from a busy life, this is a great place to do it. There is nothing around you but views of the Gulf of Mexico, birds, wildlife and some great nearby walking trails. Rather than visit our son in Tallhassee (he goes to Florida State), we have him drive the 35 miles South and meet us there for a family get together.
My only suggestion is pack your cooler and do your grocery shopping ahead of time. There's not much but a gas station and within 7-8 miles. There is a little rustic restaurant that we went to on Valentine's day, about 3 miles away, called Spring Creek Restaurant. It was a little pricey (not too bad for fresh seafood) but the food was excellent and it was a landmark, cozy little restaurant.
