Why Dave Carroll chose Grantsburg
Karen and Dave have been building cabins in the woods of Canada for 42 years of their terrific 49 year marriage. This one is the result of his building and designing those and 17 houses and 2 churches. They have lived in the Canadian bush for many years as Dave did his business thing. Now you get the result of that experience. This property was picked because it is wild yet <1.5 hours from the Twin Cities and those incredible grandchildren. If you don't like the woods and a little roughing it (with a few high-end features) you'll miss the point of this very unique place in the Wisconsin outback.JIC we now have Internet and WiFI for your cell phone connection assurance.
What makes this House unique
You might be lucky to see one of our local friendly bears. They usually stay away too much to be seen but so far several of our guest have seen them walking through our property. Hike with Karen and our Irish Setter Teagan to learn and experience more or get us to help you with the bonfire. You might hear some stories from decades of adventure and almost 50 years of marriage if invited ...OR just hole up and we'll leave you alone to create your adventures on this crafty use of a stunning site.

Amazing little home!
This little house was great! We only spent one night, but hope to go again. The house was so cute and comfortable. When we arrived the place was nice and warm, all shoveled out and a fire going in the outdoor fire pit. Owner stopped by to give us information we may need, super nice guy! We quickly found our way to hot tub outdoors and enjoyed the evening watching the stars ✨ bed was very comfy, towels for hot tub, and shower, robes provided, wi-fi, full size appliances. Wish I could have stayed the weekend. Loved it!!! Thank you for sharing this little gem!!
What a great, quiet getaway. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Great amenities, friendly host. Thanks for sharing your spot with us.
The Snowshoe Creek cabin was awesome. Dave and Karen were very hospitable and welcomed my dog with open arms. It was cold and rainy while we were there but we still enjoyed the trails around the creek, lake, and woods. And of course the hot tub!!! Thanks Dave and Karen. We hope to get back there soon!!!

If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is your place! It is so quiet that we could hear birds and other animals chewing on their food. The house is super clean and comfortable and Dave is great host!
Cozy Cabin with perfect amenities against a beautiful nature backdrop
We stayed for a week at the cabin and absolutely loved our vacation. Dave was an accommodating and wonderful host. For example, if we ever had a question or concern, he would respond immediately and could help us out with whatever we needed. The cabin was the perfect size, about 525 sq.ft. and beautifully constructed with wood floors, knotty pine trim, exposed beams, and big windows on all walls to get the most of the fresh breeze. The heat and AC worked perfectly, new appliances, plenty of cookware and utensils, and the hot tub was always ready-to-go. The back of the cabin opens to a series of paths, creeks, and natural springs; it was like having our own private nature preserve! The pontoon was wonderful for bass fishing and nature watching - we saw eagles, beavers, turtles, frogs, snakes, blue heron, big fish, dragonflies, brown and black squirrels, horses, cows, and goats (and that's all from the lake). The local towns offer plenty of things to do as well - there's a fantastic cheese factory within 10 minutes, antique shops, a movie theater, and some really good food spots. There's also a chain of lakes, about 30 minutes out, where you can boat up to 8 lakes all connected by waterways - perfect for bass, northern pike, and walleye fishing! The most breathtaking was the deep, dark nights - you can see planets, the milky way, shooting stars, and much more. Overall, the cabin was just what we needed to recharge and connect with nature. Thanks Dave!
A quiet, lovely tiny home
We loved our time at this tiny home. It is quiet, surrounded by woods, and is just a quick walk to the water front. We appreciated the hot tub and use of the canoe.
The hosts were welcoming and very easy to work with.
You'll find this to be a unique woodsy and wild lakeside setting. It has so much to in the surrounding communities or just a peaceful place to hole up and read a book. Ride a horse or borrow our bikes. Take a canoe ride or just sit on the bench at the end of the dock and look for bass in the clear lily padded bay. Take a walk with your dog and find a new path to explore. Remote for sure with surrounding farms and woods but jump into town for action. Get their quickly from the Twin Cities. Home away from home in one of the finest tiny houses around.
