Many years ago my oldest daughter married an Italian living in Rome. Since that time, my wife, Jean, and I have made an annual trip to Rome and Italy to visit her and her growing family. After some years and two growing grandchildren, it became obvious that we needed to have our own place when we came to visit. Hence, a search for a convenient and comfortable apartment for use during our visits. Luckily we found such a place in the same neighborhood where my daughter and family resided. Since that time, we have rented this apartment to tourists during the time that we are not occupying the premises. My daughter acts as our agent in Rome and is prepared to offer her services and knowledge of the city to renters if needed. We have traveled extensively throughout Italy and Europe and consider Rome to be our second home. We try to express our enthusiasm for the city and the country to our prospective renters in hopes that they too will we able to experience the incredible wealth of art, history and culture that the city offers.
John Mortarotti purchased this apartment in 1996
Besides wanting to find an apartment in the same neighborhood as my daughter's area of Rome, we wanted a place that was residential in nature, quiet, safe and if possible, family oriented. At the same time, we wanted it to be accessible to the center of Rome where one could easily explore the many wonders of the eternal city yet experience, first-hand, the Roman way of life. The apartment is a mere 20 minutes by public transportation from the very center of Rome. This transportation is very reliable, convenient and accessible. There are many amenities in close proximity to the apartment. Restaurants, Trattorias, bars, shops, street markets, supermarkets, banks, post office, department stores, pharmacies, etc, etc. that help one to enjoy Roman life to the fullest. Also, the apartment is located just one block from the new terminal servicing the city's direct rail line to and from Rome's International airport. This is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Rome and the residents are mainly upper middle-class in stature.
As many former renters remark, the apartment is ideally located close enough to the center of Rome to be able to experience the wonders of this unique city yet far enough away from the tourist area to experience a bit of what is the true Roman life for resident Romans. In addition, one can enjoy true Roman cuisine in restaurants, trattorias and pizzerias nearby. The amenities in the neighborhood include all the needs one could possibly require during one's residence.
the apartment was everything we expected and I can't think of a single thing yjat needs to be changed or improved. You and Marilee were a pleasure to deal with. thank you for making your apartment available for tourists like us- it was perfect!
We have rented this apartment several times in the last few years. Our last visit was for 2 weeks in Dec. of 2008. The apt. is roomy, comfortable and pleasant. The views from the balconies allow you to view the river below and the city around you. We especially enjoyed shopping for fruit, veggies, meats, flowers, etc. at the nearby, daily street market. Two supermercatos( supermarkets) are also close by.
The bus system is regular and easily used to reach the center of Rome. The owner's daughter(a resident of the area) is extremely helpful. She will meet you at the train station, give you tips to enhance your stay, and answer all your questions regarding bella Roma. We have always enjoyed our visits to the area and apartment.
Wonderful apartment in a perfect location! Central to everything. Safe, clean and spacious. The owner was always ready if we had a question via email or telephone. John and Marilee were generous with the information and with great tips to make our stay more pleasant. Would highly recommend it!!

If you're looking for a convenient Roman apartment away from the hustle and bustle of the city, look no further. My husband and I stayed at this lovely apartment for 9 nights during Holy Week and Easter this past March. The apartment is nicely furnished, immaculately clean and reasonably priced. It is within walking distance to both subway and bus lines (we used both), grocery stores, restaurants, a Catholic Church, and many other conveniences. The balconies look out over the Aniene River and present a lovely, serene view. While we didn't do any real cooking, we did enjoy having the fully equipped kitchen available for coffee, quick breakfasts and simple meals such as Italian cold cuts, cheese, olives, bread and wine. We found the cost of food at the nearby grocery to be extremely reasonable and the cost of wine and liqueurs was unbelievably inexpensive. Mr. Mortarotti and his daughter Marilee are delightful to work with; they couldn't have been more helpful. Marilee went out of her way to answer my many questions fully and quickly. This apartment contributed greatly to making our trip to Rome so enjoyable and I couldn't recommend it more highly. We would definitely stay here again if we're fortunate enough to return to Rome and, yes, we did throw our coins in the Trevi Fountain!
My wife and I rented the apartment for the first week of October. The apartment is large, with separated bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom. Our host, Marilee was exceptional. She met us at the train station, close to the apartment, and briefed us on the features of the apartment and local stores where we could get our groceries. She provided a hand drawn map of where to catch public transportation (Buses, Train and Subway) to get to the center of Rome that became an essential piece of information. Without it we'd still be looking to find our way back to the apartment. Her assistance made our visit to Rome wonderful and most enjoyable. I would recommend this apartment to my friends. Thank John and Marilee to allow us to use the apartment. John, Thank you for returning my deposit.
We've rented that appartment and we had a marvelous time.
Clean, near all transport by bus and metro .
Perfect for a couple with or whitout Kids.
Apartment is located in a quiet residential area just outside the center of Rome. The neighborhood contains banks, street markets, supermarkets, newsstands, boutiques, pharmacies, laundromats, post office, bars, restaurants, etc all within 1 or 2 blocks distance. There is a bicycle, jogging path that borders the river directly in front of the apartment and has children's playgrounds included. Transportation to the city center is very efficient and accessible by public bus or Metro just 20 minutes distance. One of the best preserved and extensive catacombs in Rome is just several blocks distant. There are many excellent restaurants, trattorias and Pizzerias in the neighborhood that serve authentic Roman cuisine at reasonable prices. For those wishing to prepare their own meals there are several street markets, supermarkets, fruit and vegetable stands, butchers and bakeries within 2 blocks from the apartment. The area, Monte Sacro, was, until after World War II, the seat of many Villa owned by wealthy Romans. In the 1950's it the city expanded greatly and much of Monte Sacro was developed for housing the growth in population. It's proximity to the city center has made it a very desirable residential neighborhood in Rome. Typical of most large cities, this type of neighborhood contains all the amenities that one could possibly want or need. The apartment is particularly well situated since the street on which it is located borders the Aniene river that flows into the Tiber as it slowly meanders through the northeast part of Rome.
The city has built a bicycle-jogging path along this river that extends several miles. along this path there are many parks benches, playgrounds and other amenities that afford opportunities for residents to be able to access outdoor activity in the center of a bustling city neighborhood.
