This magnificent loft apartment is set on the 3rd floor in a 15th century Medici Palazzo. The loft apartment is 90sqm (about 1000sqft) with amazingly high ceiling of 5meters (about16ft) high. The ceiling is the original 15th century Florentine wood work (a cassettoni) that has all been finely and painstakingly preserved.
The apartment consists of an entrance hallway which leads you into the loft apartment with 2 huge cathedral windows that let a lot of light in. The flooring is the old Florentine terracotta, there is a small kitchenette with all the amenities necessary in a modern day kitchen. The bathroom has a shower and has all been finished with precious marble. The living area has been decorated with very unique antique Florentine furniture and some of the pieces are masterpieces of the old Florentine craftsmanship. One great example is the dining table that is made of marble inserts, a technique known as 'Scagliola'.
Seeing is believing how welcoming and beautiful this apartment is. The apartment is on the 3rd floor with no lift, so there are 70 steps, but it is all well worth the journey to this 'Medici jewel'. The location is exceptional, for you are stones throw to all the Florentine museums and important sites, shops, and bars and restaurants. The building itself is so centrally placed for it was said to have been built by one of the Medici for his French mistress.

I grew up in Florence, and I LOVE my hometown. My wife was born on the east cost of Italy and she felt in love with me while we where sailing. Now we both love to offer our precious loft to people who want to live Florence and his history. We hope you'll enjoy all that Florence has to offer. You'll want to keep coming back
Simone Valenti purchased this apartment in 1997
It’s a short walk to all the main monuments, churches and historical sites of Florence. You are just in the middle of the reinassance town and close to typical florentine restaurants, groceries and shops.
My husband and I enjoy traveling and often use VRBO when making plans for our accommodations. We visited Florence in the beginning of October and this time of year couldn't have been more perfect. Great weather...not too many tourists. My first impression of this apartment was, "this place is amazing." The high ceilings, the location, the square footage are all very impressive and one could not ask for more. We arrived before the time of check in and the host and cleaning lady were kind enough to allow us to drop our luggage off and come back later so that the cleaning person could finish.
Some things that might be helpful to know: There are quite a number of stairs and no elevator. After a long day of walking around the city, the stairs could be challenging for some. The loft area were the bed was located had very low ceilings. I am 5' 7" and my head just skimmed the rafters. My husband who is 6' had to walk bent over. The loft concept seems to be quite common in Italy and is something I just thought might be helpful to know. The bathroom was beyond filthy. The mold and soap scum were many layers thick. The first night we were there we walked to the grocery store, purchased cleaning products and I scrubbed the bathroom for over an hour. We also stayed in Venice, Sorrento and Rome and all the other places were very clean. This one was not. Many described the place as full of antiques...sometimes things are antiques and sometimes things are just old and soiled. This place was a bit of both. It wasn't so horrible but things could use a good cleaning and sprucing up.
Very Nice apartment, great location, and the furniture was comfortable. although the couch needs to be recovered. The bed was fine, the hot water in the shower would stop sometimes, and then start again. It was dark in the bathroom, and shower stall.
Very quiet during the days, however at night when the clubs and bars would close it became very rowdy on the streets. And this is a third floor walk up so the noise and screaming would go straight up! This sort of noise and commotion happened every night around 1:30Am and continued until 3:00Am or later. Really the only downside to renting this apartment, The owners seemed very nice.
We stayed at this property for a few nights at the beginning of October.
Very close to the central sites of Florence. Just minutes from the Ufizi, etc...
Main floor of the appartment is very spacious and the antiques do give it a lot of character
The hosts are very pleasant and accomodating
Like a lot of heritage places, there is no elavator/lift so yo do have to haul your bags up 3 flights of stairs
Lighting in the unit is not that great, particularly in the bathroom.
The couch is need of repair. It does fold out to a hide-a-bed, but it is pretty uncomfortable and the fabric is not in good condition
The bed was hard, even by European standards. The ceiling is low in the loft...so you need to watch your head.
We found the unit to be quite noisy at night. We were kept awake two nights by very loud partiers in the street. We were informed that this was a rare occurance, but as there is very limited air conditioning, the only way to get fresh air is to leave a window open, so any street noise will come in.
I would recomend this appartment for anyone who wants a unique environment to stay in while in Florence. Just be aware that as you are close to the center of the action...the action may come to you.
This was a very spacious apartment with a nice location. Although this apartment is on the second floor it's is basically four flights of stairs with no lift. So it's a little tough with luggage or after a long day of sightseeing. Not the most comfortable bed but the unit is filled with beautiful antiques including a piano. The lighting is very soft so if you plan to read it may be difficult. The shower could be a little cleaner and the unit gets a lot of noise from the street in the mornings. But all in all we enjoyed our stay.
A very nice room in a good location for accessing the sites of Florence by foot. If you appreciate vintage furniture and other antiques you will enjoy this room. Clean bathroom, comfortable bed. Check-in procedure was clear through emails from the owner.
2 small things to mention that are out of the owner's control (hence my 100% review for the room):
The occasional noise in the late hours of the night from some individuals down on street level.
A confrontational neighbor on the 2nd floor who randomly accused us of pressing her intercom ring button, even when showed that we have the key to enter the building and have zero reason to press any intercom ring button, let alone hers. If any future guest encounters this individual, ignore her and walk away. You can't reason with crazy.
We had a wonderful week in Florence at the flat. As part of an apartment originally built for a Medici family member, It is truly palatial. It is richly decorated and easily the largest room I’ve ever stayed in, and well located in the heart of the old city. Although small, the kitchen is well appointed and there is a pump espresso machine we made great use of. There is a great little neighborhood center just around the corner. We found free street parking just a 10 minute walk away, but where able to park in front of the flat for drop off and pick up. Simone is a most gracious host and made us feel immediately at home.
Thank you Simone!
