Nestling in a quiet residential cul-de-sac just a stones throw from one of the West Coast's premier beaches, Mullins Bay, Bohemia offers exceptional value plus everything you would expect from a Caribbean holiday home.
Let's start with its location. This is what Ins & Outs of Barbados and Barbados in a Nutshell, the Islands two main tourist publications, says about Mullins beach which is only 700 yards/640 meters away,
'A magnificent stretch of beach in St. Peter with glassy, turquoise water, good snorkeling and a variety of water sports.
Mullins Beach Bar offers service right to your beach chair with lots of toys in the sea for children to clamber on'
Now to the Villa itself. Bohemia is the perfect holiday Villa for family and friends looking for privacy, relaxation and comfort. It is well appointed and is serviced six days a week. With four air-conditioned bedrooms the Villa can accommodate up to eight guests - three as doubles and one as a twin or double. Formal and al-fresco dining is flexible with a number of options both inside & out. The mature gardens offer total privacy and include a dedicated covered barbeque area, an attractive dining gazebo and, of course, the inviting pool. The Villa is extremely child friendly and totally secure so those little one's who love exploring are not able to wonder further than the rear garden fence line.
I have been a visitor to Barbados for over 40 years during which time I have enjoyed the experiences of Hotels such as Sandy Lane (8years), Colony Club (2 years), and then for 10 years with 2 weeks at the Sandpiper and 5 weeks at Tamarind Cove as we split the 7weeks between the 2 hotels, going to Barbados twice a year October/November and January to March before finally deciding to but Bohemia some 12 years ago, a decision I have never regretted..
David purchased this villa in 2002
Nice property with character with pretty garden and pool.
Well located with Mullins beach being only a 5-10min walk.
The rooms are clean and the house well looked after by a very pleasant housekeeper Cheryl, and Rose pops in to keep the garden and outside area in shape.
A few bits and pieces could probably do with updating but overall a positive experience.
We had a most relaxing family stay (2 adults; 2 teenagers) at this well appointed and privately located villa where we received excellent and friendly care from Cheryl (Housekeeper) and Sandra (Cook) who were great fun but never intrusive.
Christine (House Manager) greeted us on our arrival (even though our flight was delayed) and checked with us later on in the week to make sure that all was going well with our stay. Our booking was made directly with David and was a simple and straightforward process throughout, with an excellent introductory pack provided to us prior to our arrival.
Whilst the pool was clean and refreshing, we also made regular use of the wonderfully warm Caribbean Sea which is in easy walking distance from the villa.
This was our 4th visit to the island and certainly our most comfortable stay there. Judging by the other reviews submitted, it looks like the return rate to this villa is going to be high so best to book it up early !
The Barr Family
I am a Barbadian who lives abroad and always find my way home during the summer. My stay at Bohemia was amazing. I had my whole family of eight and everyone was perfectly comfortable. The place is well spaced out where if you need to be away from the noise, you can certainly find a quiet corner to read a book and have some alone time. My kids enjoyed the pool everyday and so did the big kiddies (aka adults). Cheryl and Sandra were very hospitable, inviting, friendly and warm. Our location was perfectly close to the beach and was a central location to everything from beach bar, supermarket, Speightstown and Holetown. I am looking forward to being back there again next year. Can't wait to be back. Thanks Bohemia family, Cheryl, Sandra, Christine and David. You guys are awesome!
Grant Family, Queens NY
The villa was everything we hoped it would be. When we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome by Cheryl who introduced us to the facilities the villa had to offer.
The villa was very light and airy and also extremely clean. The pool was lovely and the lush private gardens were a joy to sit in to enjoy looking at the birds and occasional monkey! Lots of seating in the sun but also plenty of shade which was much appreciated.
The staff were very friendly and could not do enough to make sure everything was perfect for us.
All in all we had a fantastic time and would not hesitate to recommend the villa.
Hope to re-book for next year!
We had a great time at this Villa. The pool is perfect as are the gardens. It is spacious and airy with decent air con (which was a necessity!). Ample parking for 3/4 cars without the need to move to exit. The staff were on hand and did a great job keeping up with the cleaning and the gardener and pool boy keep the outside in tip top condition for the whole two weeks. The patio is great if the rain comes as you can still sit outside. Plenty of dining and living space. The house is managed by great people who could not have done more to make our stay perfect. I would definitely stay here again and plan to!
Barbadians (Bajans) are a warm, friendly, and hospitable people, who are genuinely proud of their country and culture and tourism is the island's number one industry, Beaches along the island's south and west coasts are picture-perfect, and on the rugged east coast, the Atlantic Ocean attracts world-class surfers. The northeast is dominated by rolling hills and valleys, while the interior of the island is covered by acres of sugarcane and dotted with small villages. Being only 21 miles long & 14 miles wide everything is easily accessible from Bohemia so here are a few of the island's attractions that you might like to visit while you are here.
Andromeda Botanic Gardens. More than 600 beautiful and unusual plant specimens from around the world are cultivated in 6 acres of gardens nestled among streams, ponds, and rocky outcroppings overlooking the sea above the Bathsheba coastline.
Harrison's Cave. This limestone cavern, complete with stalactites, stalagmites, subterranean streams, and a 40-foot waterfall, is a rare find in the Caribbean-and one of Barbados's most popular attractions.
St. Nicholas Abbey. The island's oldest great house (circa 1650) was named after the original British owner's hometown, St. Nicholas Parish near Bristol, and Bath Abbey nearby. Its stone-and-wood architecture makes it one of only three original Jacobean-style houses still standing in the Western Hemisphere. It has Dutch gables, finials of coral stone, and beautiful grounds that include an old sugar mill.
In addition to the Duty Free shopping in Bridgetown's Broad Street stores and their branches in Holetown, Barbados has some excellent specialist outlets including -
Best of Barbados. Best of Barbados was the brainchild of architect Jimmy Walker as a place to showcase the works of his artist wife. Now with five locations, the shops offer products that range from Jill Walker's frameable prints, housewares, and textiles to arts and crafts in both 'native' style and modern designs. Everything is made or designed on Barbados.
Earthworks Pottery. Earthworks is a family-owned and -operated pottery workshop, where you can purchase anything from a dish or knickknack to a complete dinner service or one-of-a-kind art piece. You can find the characteristically blue or green pottery-and, more recently, peach and brown hues-decorating hotel rooms and for sale in gift shops throughout the island; but the biggest selection (including some 'seconds') is at Earthworks, where you also can watch the potters at work.
