Lake Minnetonka Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Want up North, but not the drive? This is the retreat for you. The beautifully decorated Lake Cabin is Perfect for a Romantic Couples getaway!! Big Island is located on Lake Minnetonka, only minutes from Minneapolis. The cabin is located on 1 acre of wooded land with a fabulous view of the lake. It is a wonderful get-away from all the pressures of life. Sit on one of the two decks and relax as you enjoy the views of boats sailing by and the glow of the amber setting sun!

Big Island is located between Excelsior and Wayzata, both of which are filled with restaurants and shops. You can drive your boat to the free public docking at either town. Excelsior is 2 miles away from cabin and Wayzata 4 miles away.A quick minutes boat ride to a fun fabulous dinner out on the lake! And if you want solitude, you can spend time hiking around the island and see where the original amusement park used to be.

This is a beautiful cabin where you can enjoy nature, yet still be close to urban delights.

*Please note: This property is accessible only by boat.

Mainland parking, dockage, or boat rental is not provided by owner. Foster Bros. Marine rents boats in Delano. Their phone# 763-972-3199

We are very excited about renting the cabin this year! It has been all remodeled, newly furnished, and beautifully decorated. Once people see, it they love it! The cabin is very upscale and comfortable with two decks.

Upper deck: overlooking the gorgeous view of the lake with two very comfortable chairs with ottomans to relax, read, or have your morning breakfast and coffee.

Lower deck (which sits off the water): has a high top table, swivel bar stools, red umbrella and potted flowers at your feet. There you can enjoy the setting sun with cocktails. There is a sandy beach with extra chairs to sit down and put your feet in the warm sand or build a sand castle!

Inside cabin features include:

-Beautiful woodwork

-Newly tiled floors

-New kitchen appliances and cabinets

-New bathroom with jetted tub

-Beautiful romantic open loft bedroom (which overlooks the living room)

Everything is beautifully decorated with an eye for details and enjoyment!

Tie up to the 75 foot dock. It's great for fishing and the sunnies are always biting!

*Fishers- This bay is one of Lake Minnetonka's prized bass fishings spots (walleyes, northerns, bass, and muskies).

A large fire pit, which overlooks the bay, is complete with large boulders to sit on to roast marsh mellows for s'mores. 4 new kayaks are available to rent, $50 for 3 days or $75 for the week, per kayak.

Remember, this property is accessible only by boat!

There are several full service marinas that are close to the island. For overnight vehicle and boat trailer parking there is one close at Grays Bay Landing, 17232 Grays Bay Blvd. Minnetonka, MN and in Orono - 3366 North Shore Drive, Orono, MN

We cannot do parties or more than 4 guests due to our septic and well systems. We also do not want the wear and tear of our property and furnishings. This is an upscale, exceptionally clean and well decorated cabin. It is perfect for a Romantic Couple Getaway!! We are excited to share our cabin with mature, responsible, and respectful renters so that the cabin will stay in great shape for years to come.

About Jody Laughlin

I have always lived near or on Lake Minnetonka all my life. My father has owned lake cabins on Big Island as a vacation spot to enjoy. I grew up sailing across to Big Island to hang out with friends at one of the cabins. We were big sailors in regattas around the country. We have always loved the Lake and Big Island.

Both my husband and I have grown up here and graduated from Minnetonka High School. We have lived at same property since we married 27 years ago, and tore down the orginal house and built new home, with 6 wonderful children. Ages...26, 23, 21, 19,17 & 15, Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl. Everyone is super close and our top priority is family and extended family time together, with lots of love, laughter and good food! I absolutely love renting out and sharing our property, because I know how much I love and enjoy it when I am able to get away and relax out there. Renters have been so great and have been so responsible and respectful of our furnishings and property. We have a lot of repeat customers because they know how beautiful and clean our lake cabin is. We are very protective of our property, so that we and they, can always count on our place being stellar.

Jody Laughlin purchased this cabin in 1977

Why Jody Laughlin chose Lake Minnetonka

My father has two Big Island lake properties next to each other, his being down the shore line. He wanted to sell the Upper cabin because the lake taxes were so high. I couldn't see that happening, I wanted to keep it in the family for future generations to enjoy as we have. So we rent it out to cover the expensive lake taxes, insurance, and maintenance. We still get to enjoy it in the spring and fall and hopefully have Christmas out there if the lake ice is better this year for crossing! There are no bridges to this Island.

What makes this cabin unique

We are on an Island, with 20 other seasonal lake home cabins. Our property and dock are located last on the Island , that butts up next to the 'Three Rivers District Park System'. So our location is private. We sit up high with a commanding view of Lake Minnetonka and all the boats and activity. We are surrounded by lush greenery and mature trees that are a relaxation feast for the eyes. The whole front of the cabin and the A frame sides are all glass. So you feel like you are one with the outside and nature! In the fall there are all the maples on the Island that make the Island on fire with color. Looking out the windows at glowing yellow, orange and red. Taking a cool hike around the lake on a rugged foot path to the Old amusement park. Come back for a Bon Fire to warm up to with S'mores and hot cider. There is a red wood burning stove in living room that heats the place up wonderfully cozy in the fall and winter. Very romantic cozy getaway for a couple all year round!!!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you for the perfect weekend! Your cabin is beautiful and so clean and well maintained! Your lot is very private with such wonderful views- you definitely get the "up north" feeling but are only minutes from the cities. Every aspect of our stay was great and we plan on returning next year.

Thanks again!

Tree house with a fabulous lake view

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the cabin. The view of the lake from the deck, fire pit and living room is great and the sleeping loft is like sleeping in a tree house. The cabin is very clean and well maintained. We were there during a heat wave and stayed cool by swimming, boating and the air conditioning in the cabin kept the cabin very comfortable. We did not cook much but used the grill for burgers one night and the fire pit for s'mores. We took the boat to Excelsior for lunch at Haskell's, shopping and dinner one night at Coalition. We were lucky enough to be there for three nights of full moon and we had the best view to see the moon rise. Hard to decide if the full moon was the highlight or the fireflies which light up the property at night - felt like a kid at summer camp. Great property and great hosts. We will return.

Such a unique place.

Pictures don't do it justice. It's even better in person. Great views and best of all only 30 minutes from the city. We rented it for our 5 year anniversary, it was a perfect quick getaway.

Owner was really responsive and easy to work with. Thanks Judy.

The best cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We love staying here! Not only is the property totally perfect, but the host is out of this world good. We live very close to the location and it's like being transported to some place else. It's so much fun. It's the perfect mix of everything, it's a cabin and it's secluded but it has everything you need (inlcuding an outdoor shower) and you are a 15 minute boat ride to the heart of socialization. You couldn't ask for anything else. Will definitely be back.

Lake Life at its Best!

  • 5 of 5

From the warm and friendly interactions with Jody before our arrival and during our stay to the magnificent setting, ideal location with amenities of Wayzata and Excelsior nearby, availability of kayaks and paddle boards and a fabulous cabin, it could not have been a more perfect stay for us! Everything you need is right there.

This place makes you feel at home immediately! The cabin was immaculately kept and had all the necessary ingredients for a great kitchen from dishes to pots/pans and staples such as spices and condiments available so you don't need to bring extra items in your cooler. Coupled with a plentiful supply of clean towels, linens and an extra inflatable mattress if needed – you just need to bring your clothes, toiletries, food and a good book and you’ll be all set. All the details are taken care of for you. The yard is large and well groomed and the location is very private with no view of neighboring cabins. The cabin is well appointed and we absolutely loved all the large windows that let in the amazing view of the lake. Grilling looking out at the sailboats in the bay, enjoying smores around the bonfire pit, having cocktails and al fresco dining on the deck and of course the relaxing whirlpool and the charming outdoor shower. Jody has thought of everything and her collection of games, movies and magazines were an added bonus. The furniture was very comfortable and the large couch was perfect for time spent together reading or watching a movie and the inside dining table made for a cozy meal if you wanted to be inside – but who wanted to do that when you have a wonderful table and umbrella on the deck just feet away! We were able to get breezes through the cabin with the well placed windows and doors though fans and an air conditioner is there if you hit a hot spell.

Can't say enough about how amazed we were with this get-away. We have done numerous VRBO vacations and this one has by far been one of our best and that is due to the care of the owners, the warm interactions and the appointments of this cabin. Thank you for sharing your family’s cabin with us and allowing it to feel like our own for a few days! We look forward to spending time there again next season to make more memories!

Fantastic Staycation

  • 5 of 5

What a gem! We were looking a for weekend away, yet close to home. This provided it. We keep a couple of boats on Minnetonka which are about 4 minutes from our house. It was so fun taking our 5 year old to a little cabin on the island by boat. She loved it. We had friends/family stop by for cocktails each evening by the bonfire. We spent the days exploring, hiking, fishing, swimming and relaxing. We will certainly be back.

Big Island Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely fantastic time. The cabin is very cozy yet well appointed and very comfortable. The fire pit overlooking the lake was beautiful. Perfect for viewing the sunset. We even got to experience the eclipse on Sunday evening. Enjoyed boating, hiking and relaxing. We were blessed to have such beautiful weather at the end of September and definitely plan to return next year.

Jody was a wonderful hostess and met us at the dock to show us around and helped us unload. Although we packed quite a bit of food, we found ourselves eating out at many of the great restaurants around the lake. We did grill a wonderful steak dinner on Sunday when we had guests out. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone wanting to enjoy lake living or a relaxing getaway.
