The Island... Explore the fascinating island of Great Camanoe on foot or by golf cart. The villa is located on the western end of Great Camanoe Island, overlooking Little Camanoe and the Camanoe Passage. Indigo Plantation, the westerly settlement on Great Camanoe, has 23 houses on some 200+ acres, a community tennis court and boat basin. There are no hotels, stores, or restaurants on the island. All are nearby one-half to 2 miles away by boat. The Indigo Plantation community has tastefully paved private roads for walking and beach access. There are wild goats, wild orchids, starlit nights, exotic flowers with perfume-like odors, shell covered beaches, snorkeling on fabulous coral reefs teeming with tropical fish, 700 foot hills, walking paths, magnificent views, wonderful breezes and days full of all the above or just the complete privacy of the villa. Two golf carts are included for on island use. The beach is about 1/3 mile by golf cart or on foot. A handsome recently updated community tennis court is situated beside the boat basin with a breeze and a view.

Because this is an out island, boating skills are a must, unless your party is content to stay on Great Camanoe and rely on transportation on a fee per trip basis. For those who really want to explore more distant islands, a rental service of larger powerboats is available on Tortola.
The protected, scenic boat basin offers safe dockage for the boat and easy access to nearby island resorts of Marina Cay and Scrub Island, or Trellis Bay. and to explore nearby secluded beaches, bays and waters. Venture to other islands, reefs, bays, beaches and more in the 18 ft boat. Our trip to Serendipity far exceeded our expectations. The house, perched on top of a mountain with 360 degree views, has a beautiful open-air floor plan. Cool islands breezes quickly wash away our cares as we stared out over the surrounding islands or at the beautiful nighttime sky. The house is conveniently located on Great Camanoe, and situated in close proximity to many of the great British Virgin Islands with most all of them in site from the house. The house has a fabulous vibe. It seems to me that there have been many happy, wonderful memories made at Serendipity by its owners and by the lucky guests like us who have been blessed to stay there.
Travel on Great Camanoe and between Great Camanoe and the other islands was one of our biggest concerns – and I am sure yours as you read this review. Here is a quick overview: 1)Best way to get to the area is to fly into Beef Island, Tortola airport. 2)When you arrive at Beef Island Airport you can walk to the dock, Trellis Bay, from the airport. It is only about 5 minutes away and easily done if you don’t have too many bags. Trellis Bay is 2 miles from the house and an easy 10 minute ride in the boat. 3)Alvin, the homes caretaker was waiting for us in the boat at the dock to take us to the house. He was very helpful with local tidbits, acquainting us with the boat, the island and the house. 4)The house comes with two golf carts for transport from the marina to the house and back. 5)The boat, Scargo III, will be your main source of transportation – to the beaches, to see other islands, to dinner, etc. I must say, this 18 ft boat was great, stable and well maintained. 6)Meals are accessible on Scrub Island and Marina Cay are really close and accessible at night. Between the moored boats, a high-powered flashlight and cautious driving this is easily navigated. Honestly, this was our biggest concern. We did not want to eat in every night; after all it is vacation.
With the boat we were able to visit Jost Van Dyke, The Baths on Virgin Gorda, Cane Garden Bay on Tortola, and Long Bay on Tortola.
Everyone in our group agreed this trip went down as one of the best vacations ever. It was also a big hit with our 10-year old who enjoyed the boat rides and driving the golf cart to and from the house. I think staying at Serendipity affords you with the perfect mix of adventure, freedom and relaxation with a feeling that you are at home. Well, at least you can pretend its home until its time to leave.
Our family of five recently stayed in this amazing house on Great Camanoe. We've been to the BVIs many times on charter (sailboat) but this was our first time staying in a home. What a home!!!! The kitchen, living room, dining room and patio are all open to the gentle breezes and sunny skies - it's truly breathtaking. The bedrooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated; they are all charming in their own way - four poster beds, chaise lounges, a lending library... The pool is lovely and such a nice way to cool off when returning home from adventures. We loved the fact that our mode of transportation on the island was a golf cart :) The power boat allowed us to take our daughters to neighboring islands so that we could show them some of the places we've told them about over the years. This was a trip of a lifetime for our family and we thoroughly enjoyed calling Serendipity our home base for the week. The views are amazing and being at the top of Great Camanoe allowed the breezes to chase away any buggies and keep the temperature comfortable (even in July!). Many, many thanks to the owners who ensured our stay was very happy!
We spent eight days at this property - there were a couple of days when we never left the house. The views are overwhelming and the house itself is very comfortable - perfect for two couples. The boat gave us access to virtually all of the BVI as long as the seas weren't too high. The island has about no beach and only a (very nice) tennis court for recreation, but there's a nice beach (and a Pusser's restaurant) on Marina Cay five minutes away by boat.
High above but easily accessible on Great Camanoe, Serendipity Indigo has panoramic views of Virgin Gorda and sunrise to the east encompassing all the islands west to Jost Van Dyke and Guana Island at sunset. Indigo is the southwestern settlement on Great Camanoe which is approx.2 miles by boat from Beef Island and Tortola. Nearby islands Marina Cay, Scrub Island, Last Resort and Trellis Bay have restaurants, stores, etc (still very laid back) and access to Tortola, BVI.
To see the exciting views of nearby islands use Earth GPS maps website- and find the location of Serendipity-Indigo location 64°32'11'W•18°27'44 'N.
