About Trina Kim

My wife and I fell in love with Rome in 1983, when at the start of a seven-week European vacation my wife fell ill and was admitted to the womens' ward at a hospital in Rome. We knew no Italian and were petrified. However, we soon made many friends in the hospital. The warmth, generosity and love of life the Italians possessed - even in such a dismal situation as a hospital ward - were totally captivating to us and convinced us that this was our home away from home. We eventually continued our European tour, but came back to Rome continually through the years. In 1996, we decided we needed a place in Rome that we could return to several times a year. It took awhile to find a place that met our requirements: a central location, nice views and at least two bedrooms.

Trina Kim purchased this apartment in 1996

Why Trina Kim chose Rome

We had a hard time finding a place that met our requirements: a central location, nice views and at least two bedrooms. We eventually took out an ad in a local English-language paper that led to a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment of 1,650 square feet. It was just the right size and located on a quiet street with a beautiful private terrace. It had remarkable character. A few years later, the adjoining apartment became available and we decided to purchase it also. We've enjoyed shopping for and furnishing the apartments with hand-picked antiques and luxurious furnishings.

What makes this apartment unique

The neighborbood and apartment has immense character. The hand-coffered ceilings and original wooden floors add a sense of grandeur to the spacious, elegant rooms. The apartment is centrally located, which is ideal: One block from Piazza Navona, three blocks from Campo di Fiori market and four blocks from the Pantheon. There are numerous small, friendly pubs on our street, in addition to excellent restaurants, boutiques, antique shops, and grocers.

Comfortable, spacious apartment in great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the owners' other apartment across the hall six years ago and loved it, but this was even better. We shared with another couple and couldn't believe how much room we had, giving us lots of privacy and space to spread out. Though it was unusually hot in Rome, and the living room air conditioning wasn't working properly, the bedroom a/c s, overhead fans, and room-darkening shutters kept the apartment very comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the cooler evenings. The kitchen was quite well-equipped, and we cooked breakfast several times. The washer and dryer worked well, although we soon decided hanging items in the hot sun worked faster than the dryer. We loved the huge assortment of books, including many travel guides, available in the hall cabinet. Although all four of us are well over 55, I did not recommend this apartment for those over 55, as there are 67 steps (we counted!) from the street to the apartment door. This was not a major problem for us (it helped keep our weights under control despite large lunches and dinners!), but future renters need to be fully aware of this. We look forward to our next visit to this apartment. The location is perfect, near great restaurants, shopping, and sightseeing.

Wonderful apartment - excellent location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Stoll apt for 5 nights with our two teen boys and loved this apartment! Beautifully decorated, plenty of space to accommodate all of us, and the terrace was fabulous! They have everything you need at the apartment, and the most comprehensive welcome/apartment guide I have ever seen. Washer AND dryer meant we could pack in carry on luggage. Great recommendations for restaurants and activities. Communication with the owner was outstanding, and our damage deposit was refunded promptly. Yes, there are a lot of stairs, but you will get used to them - they were not a problem at all for us, don't let that detract you from the rental unless you have mobility issues.

The location was perfect - easy to walk to anywhere, super close to Piazza Navona, and also had great restaurants, pizzerias, and gelato on our street, as well as a small grocery. It was like something out of a movie.

Don't hesitate to rent this apartment. If you are considering it, just do it! We all loved it!

We had a fantastico Rome vacation and the Stoll apartment accommodations were great. Location was fantastico within walking distance of several attractions, great restaurants and night life.. Accommodations were very comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed the terrace. I would recommend the apartment to anyone traveling to Rome.

Another Great Apartment

  • 5 of 5

Four couples rented both apartments, the location, size and everything was wonderful. We were on the end of a 3 week holiday so staying here was awesome. We had a lovely apartment to return to after full days of sightseeing, eating, shopping, etc. The apartments are furnished very well, the decor is charming - truly an Italian experience. Definitely would stay here again and highly recommend.

Excellent Location/Property

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is everything you see in the pictures and more. It was our first time in Rome and not sure if we had chosen the right neighborhood or apartment. Both turned out to be perfect for our family.

It was very, very clean and well stocked with all of the essentials that our family needed. It is near a busy shopping area which is great, but even better, the apartment faces a quiet area with no noise. All of the fixtures are modern and the air conditioning works excellent. They even have ice cube trays in the freezer for us Americans! That was greeted with as much excitement as anything else.

The owner gives the most comprehensive welcome package we have ever received with VRBO. All of the restaurants they recommend were fantastic and close by. The owner was easy to deal with and returned our cleaning deposit promptly.

We enjoyed visiting Piazza Navona right around the corner each night for all of the street performers, music, and sidewalk artists. Taxi stand is 1/2 block away or you can walk to the Coliseum or other attractions if you desire. We couldn't have asked for a better location for seeing the city.

Would highly recommend this apartment and we will use again if we return to Rome.

Perfection in Centro Storico

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at the Stoll apartment and have recommended it to friends and family members. On this trip, we were accompanied by our two granddaughters, so the two bedrooms and two bath layout fit our needs perfectly. The apartment is exactly as described and portrayed in the photos. With its coffered ceilings, it has kept much of its old world charm. In the heart of the 'Centro Storico' on Via Governo Vecchio, the building dates back to 1382. The first floor is said to have been home to Raffaello. The apartment is impeccable and very tastefully appointed. It is air conditioned and has an updated, well furnished kitchen, modern bathrooms. A washer and dryer are an added bonus. With a kitchen you can experience buying food and wine locally from the nearby supermercado or alimentari and our teenage granddaughters loved this aspect of their vacation. A great lesson in Italian culture. Touring Rome can be very tiring between the heat and the walking so returning to this apartment at the end of the day was the perfect respite. At night, despite the busy neighborhood, it was private, quiet and extremely comfortable.

The owners provide a comprehensive guide to everything inside and outside the apartment. The location of the apartment is unsurpassed as this historical yet very trendy neighborhood is near to Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and very walkable to St. Peter's Basilica, Castel Sant'Angelo and Campo de Fiori among other sights. The restaurant recommendations from the apartment guide are spot on. Right out the front door you are in a hub of excellent cafes, osterias and pizzerias. Whether a sit-down dinner, a panini or gelato we did not have to venture far to find many good eating places. Be sure to check out the new Frigidarium just down the street for the best gelato in Rome.

Be advised that the apartment is on the third floor with no elevator. You will get added exercise daily. To that point, our only recommendation would be to arrange, perhaps through their Rome representative, who speaks perfect English and greets you on your arrival, to have a local help carry luggage up to the apartment for a small gratuity. Same for departure.

Arrangements with the owners could not have been easier. They respond promptly

and are very helpful. we cannot wait to return!
