Two-bedroom home with private, gated access to the the best beach on the island. This home is just steps away from the white sands of Kailua beach. Situated on a quiet, beautiful, palm tree lined cul-de-sac street with no through traffic, the home is perfect for families or couples looking for privacy and walking distance to the beach.
Kailua is a quaint beach town with NO hotels or condos. It offers a pristine white sand beach where you can relax and get away from the loud, over crowded beaches of Waikiki. There are both casual and fine dining restaurants in town, several natural food markets, boutique shopping, or, in a 25-minute beautiful and scenic drive to Waikiki you can experience the nightlife and mass shopping and dining of a large city.
Kailua is the perfect beach to learn to kayak, wind surf, or kite surf. You can also surf, swim, body board, and snorkel, all right outside your doorstep. Safe for children, as home is located on cul-de-sac street with a private locked gate accessing the beach path directly in front of home.
Shuttle service from the Honolulu Airport to Kailua Beach is available for $40 US Dollars if you choose not to rent a car. Restaurants, grocery stores and shopping are in walking distance from the home.

Very comfortable stay. John was a very supportive and responsive host. Our sons (12 and 14) loved the beach, that you reach in less than a minute. We would return without hesitation whenever we would have the chance.
The beach house is located at the end of a cul-de-sac. So it's very private with our own beach entrance. It's literally less than a minute walk so it's super convenient! The home is great for a family of four. Our girls were very comfortable in their room. The master bedroom is large with plenty of windows to let the cool ocean breeze in. There's also AC. The kitchen had all the essentials for cooking. There's also a grill. No cooking for us since we planned on enjoying all the local grinds. There's a washer and dryer as well. We rented a car so getting around was super easy. For food, Safeway is located in Aikahi which is less than a 3 minute drive. If you want to hit Kailua town, that's less than five minutes. There's Target, Times Market, and WholeFoods. There's also tons of places to eat. Overall, our island experience could not have been possible without John who was very welcoming! This trip was to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. We could have not asked for a more perfect home, location and host. We highly recommend this place for a family who wants a fantastic and comfortable time! Mahalo!
We stayed here with our 2 teenage kids. It was perfect for the 4 of us. Very clean and updated. No oven, but there is a gas grill just outside the door. The unit is located at the back of the main house so it is nice and quiet. The biggest reason we chose this rental was the close distance to the beach. It's about a 30 second (if that) walk from the house to the gate to the beach! What is even better is that this part of the beach is private. That's why there's a locked gate. It is so nice because there was hardly anyone down there. Other than people walking or running on the beach. The beaches farther down from us were a lot more crowded because they are open to the public.
John is really cool! Very informative with any questions about the island.
For grocery shopping I recommend going to Safeway about a mile up the main road. We went to Foodland one time because we were in downtown and it was really expensive.
Definitely recommend staying here!
The apartment is a great place to stay if you want to be steps away from a gorgeous beach, where you can work (morning and evening beach walk), rest (sit and let the world go by) & play (surf / body board).
The apartment is modern and clean and has the all amenities you require for a holiday (as long as you don’t mind washing a few dishes). Even if you do feel something is lacking/missing, don’t worry as the host John is extremely friendly and accessible. He gave us lots of good tips for shopping / eating / visiting.
Extras such as beach chairs, snorkels, beach umbrella and bodyboards (and good outside storage for these) really make a difference when you are travelling from a distance (Scotland) and can’t pack these items.
Kailua is a small town, with lots to offer. We had a car (parking easy at the apartment), which made getting to town centre simple and there you have access to a good range of shops / restaurants / coffee houses etc.
Whole Foods became a daily visit!
I loved the 12 days I spent on Oahu. The island has a lot to offer and Kailua is the perfect place to make as your base.
Don't forget to try the Shaved Ice!
This was a fabulous option for my family which included myself, husband, baby, mother and brother. It was a tight fit but we made it work. Read: location. The kitchen is small (no oven or dishwasher) and it was fine. Read: location. There is not much natural light as it is in the back of the house but the location makes it all worthwhile. So close to a great beach and cool town.
We had the good fortune to stay at this beautiful location with our two small children in January 2016. The unit is similar to a mother-in-law suite. It is clean, modern, and have everything you could possibly need for a beach vacation. Our favorite part of the amazing proximity to the beach. It is so easy to bring all the provided gear (everything you could possibly need!) down to the beach, and if you forget anything it is a two minute walk back :-) At the beach there are some stone built table and chairs along with some well placed logs creating additional seating. We sat there every evening enjoying a few bevs and appetizers before we returned to our own lawn to grill dinner.
Tips for a great trip:
- John is an incredible resource and great host
-Costco and Farmer's Market Run on Day 1/2
-Sun rise strolls are the best on Kailua
-Morning activity and return to Kailua for afternoon play at beach and in town
-Korean restaurant just north near the old Safeway is phenomenal
-For kids, there is a great park at the local elementary school, also just north .6 mile
-Kailua Town is adorable, love the Wednesday farmers market for a good night out and great people watching
-Target is a 4 minute drive, don't overthink packing too much, you can pick up anything you forgot here
-Starbucks in town is a nice walk if you don't have kids, not great walkability if you have little ones other than the beach and to the north
In summary, Kailua is a GREAT location to get to anywhere on the whole island and we were able to explore all parts in the 9 days we were there plus enjoy our "own" beach. For a family of 4 or less this suite is a winner!
