About Beth Salmon
I'm a creative and mom of two kids. I've been a book publisher, editor in chief of health magazines and even a screenwriter. I love movies, especially "Under the Tuscan Sun," which—truth be told—is what inspired a serious property renovation. Since we couldn't move to Italy, I asked my husband Milo to convert our house into one that made us feel like we were on a vacation there every day. My husband Milo is a mechanical engineer, history/political science buff—and was once the stand-in for Sean Connery on the movie "The Rock." Born in Prague, Milo has toured more than 75 countries. His best souvenirs, though, are the great stories he brings back. Ask him about the time we were stranded on a glacier in Iceland, or the giant sea crocodile he ran into on a lonely stretch of beach on the island of Langkawi (the croc gets bigger every time he tells this story). You may notice a large three-axle military truck in our driveway. Check out the inside: It has a comfy hipster camper cabin in the back. With a table, banquette and kitchenette, it offers a mobile cabana for families or individuals to use at the beach as their home base. Ask about how to rent it by the day or half-day. Read a book, relax, change into your bathing suit, enjoy lunch without sand, store drinks. It's very handy. Currently, we park it next to the sand in Venice and Malibu.

Why Beth Salmon chose Mar Vista
We chose our home because of its location and its potential to become our dream home. When we renovated the entire property a few years ago, we turned what was a California bungalow into a stone farmhouse that you might see in Italy or France! We even have a chicken that free-ranges in parts of the yard. (She's very friendly!) We also converted our liner pool into an eco-friendly state of the art stone pool and added a 20 foot concrete slide that kids love. We also love this area, which is close to everything the West Side has to offer, including Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Starbucks, Marshall's, foodie spots on Sawtelle, Pico and Ocean Park Boulevards, and even the beach (it's only four stops west on the Light Rail). And yet, our area still feels like a hidden, diverse enclave in the middle of a very big city. Kids scooter up and down the street here, our local elementary is French Immersion and all the neighbors know each other.
What makes this Guest House unique
There are so many unique touches added to our house that it's hard to name them all. In effort to create our old-world European dreamscape, we've added Mediterranean plants, gravel, arched doorways and stone walkways, patios and facades. The backyard is lush and private with mature orange trees, tea roses and hedge trees. The pool is made of stone and has a lovely slide and cascading waterfall. The hot tub is made of concrete and stone—it's not plastic—and uses an eco-friendly cleaning system (copper and silver ions and an ozonator) which makes the water very healthy for the skin, hair and body. You will feel as if you've escaped the hustle and bustle of the city when you are here. And yet, you can easily access sights or the freeways to conveniently reach them: Disneyland, Universal, The Getty, Staples Center, beaches (Venice, Santa Monica, Malibu), museums, hiking trails and more!

Quaint and quiet little hideaway
This is a little one room cottage tucked behind the main house, next to the pool. It's eclectic and quiet, with a comfy bed and a little bit of solitude in a noisy city. If you like to walk rather than drive, it is a bit of a barren walk to the nearest train. I'd recommend driving to get around.
A touch of Tuscany, in L.A.
Very quiet and relaxing. In a residential area. After driving around in the LA traffic sight seeing, we were anxious to get back to the quiet laid back cottage and unwind everyday. Had everything we needed. Décor is super cute. Beds very comfortable. Great location for exploring beaches and the L.A. area. Wish I had rented for another day. Excellent communication with owners. Milo was super nice and took good care of us making us feel safe and comfortable. Thanks bunches.
Quiet retreat pool cabin
Hidden away in otherwise busy West LA neighborhood this property was quiet, quaint and a little rustic. Friendly owners and loved the fluffy black chicken that shared the outdoor space.
I give the shower an A++
We had a delightful stay at the Tuscan Cottage. We were in the area for our daughter's graduation at UCLA, the cottage was conveniently located to the University and to Sawtelle Blvd, where you can find wonderful restaurants and good eats. The cottage accommodated 3 of us very comfortably, the stone pool is very pretty, we enjoyed a soak one evening and a dunk in the pool very refreshing. I find a nice shower to be an important part of any accommodations and I wasn't disappointed. Maybe the best shower experience ever! Milo provided the cottage with some nice teas and coffee, the refrigerator was stocked with water and cream for my coffee in the morning. Milo and Beth were excellent hosts, we enjoyed our stay very much. Oh....One more thing....we enjoyed a brisk walk around the neighborhood every morning it is a safe and pretty little area, we enjoyed looking at all of the gentrified, million dollar homes some have the most beautiful landscaping, some are yet to be gentrified...you'll see. Fun!
Great little pool house
We had a great time staying here would definitely recommend!
We had a wonderful time at this gorgeous place! Milo and Beth were so wonderful to work with.
The house and pool area were beautiful. We had everything we needed. It was like a piece of Italy! We will definitely book there again. Milo made sure we were comfortable and he and Beth were so personable. They made us feel so welcomed.
