Peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was amazing minus the spiders but didnt expect no less we we're in a rural area. Very spacious and the kitchen table was just right for all 8 of us. His wife was very nice and only seen Sam one time didnt seem too friendly but that had no effect on our stay. They had goats right across the property and the kids LOVED that. Overall 5 stars and would definitely stay here again.

The challenge was to get travel directions. Website was of little help (I was never able to access my account). We got help via phone.

We plan to rent that cabin again.

A piece of heaven!

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming here since 2009! The property along with the cabin and lodge are in just of good shape if not better since we have coming here. These beautiful, cozy units are PERFECT for the ultimate seclusion on 80 beautiful acres. I've read some comments referring to being off the grid. I can't agree 100% on that comment! Yes, cell service is sketchy however it's called a vacation for a reason. However the amenities are certainly NOT off the grid! You know the saying "my idea of camping is staying at the Holiday Inn" well staying at Hinch Creek is perfect for those who love the peace and serenity of nature tucked back in the 80 acres but also have the amenties of a cozy cabin stocked with EVERYTHING you need and then some! Sam and Nora are wonderful honest people that will make sure you have everything you need. We have brought friends with us on occasion and everyone asked me where did you find this piece of heaven, hence my title!

I highly recommend Hinch Creek, you will LOVE it!

Cozy & Comfort

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Sam & Nora. My wife, both of our adult children, our daughter in law, & our daughter's boyfriend all spent the weekend at your cottage. With adult children & work schedules, the Christmas holiday is hectic. So my wife & I decided to start a new tradition. A family trip in place of driving to Mom & Dad's for Christmas.

This cottage served to be the perfect place to host our inaugural trip. The 4 bedrooms provide plenty of space, the living room was small enough to sit around & play games, etc. The living room had enough room to comfortable fit 6-8 people in various chairs or the couch. We had enough room for a Christmas tree as well!

Our favorite aspect was the large kitchen table & having plenty of kitchen space, full size stove, & plenty of utensils & appliances to prepare meals, as well as being able to sit down & eat together.

There are plenty of activities such as cave exploring, fishing, hiking, etc in the area. And Bourbon has several stores if you find you need something. As well as Sullivan is only about a 20 minute drive.

Nora was kind enough to reach out a couple of weeks in advance of our arrival to let us know that the recent Missouri flooding had taken it's toll on their private drive. And with the freezing temps shortly after the flooding, they had not been able to make repairs. It was not bad in my opinion, we just had to watch for potholes etc, but I certainly appreciated the heads up. And it spoke volumes about their attention to their guests.

They were on their way out on Saturday while we were outside, so they did stop their vehicle to ask how everything was. Otherwise, they left us to ourselves, but let us know that they were just down the road if we needed anything.

We really do appreciate you guys hosting us. And we will certainly make a return visit here in the future. If there was any negative that I could even mention would be that it is certainly "off the grid" regarding cell signal. We had Verizon phones & definitely had signal troubles. However, Sam was honest & told us in advance that we likely wouldn't have signal. So it isn't their fault at all. Every now & then, we could get a blip of analog signal & a text or 2 would come through. It was refreshing to us though! But if you were a traveler that needed to stay reachable, you might have some problems.

cabin in the country

  • 4 of 5

Our stay at Hinch Creek Cabin was nice and peaceful. I would have liked cell phone service...we felt a little too "off the grid". We enjoyed walking in the almost dry creek (so low because of the drought conditions) and feeding the friendly goats. We were not familiar with the area, so more info in the cabin or from the owners would have been helpful. Brochures, maps, pamphlets, etc. The cabin itself was very clean and comfortable. The four of us in the living room at night watching a movie was a bit tight, though. The fire pit was great! only problem was we didn't have matches or a lighter and there weren't any in the cabin. i would recommend you stay here if you know where you want to go and do prior to arrival. or, if you just want to "do nothing" and enjoy nature, this is the place for you!
