At 3J Ranch, it's just you, the sage, the stars, and the hooting of the owls
About Josh Jackson
As city dwellers, sometimes we just have to get away from the crowded roads and get where we can see blue sky by day and a billion stars at night. This is our family haven. When we aren't there, we are happy to share it with you.
Why Josh Jackson chose Garfield County
Bryce canyon is a great escape and is known as having the darkest sky in the US. Now head out another twelve miles to where even the town, hotels, street lights, and tourist can't be seen. Just you, the sage brush, the hooting owls, the sky, and (if you like) your friends.
What makes this House unique
Off grid, this home runs on solar, wind, and well water. Usually, it runs just like any other home. If it is cloudy, show some restraint and don't do your laundry or use your hairdryer. Many love to watch the meter that shows the power level and what each item uses. One more unique thing, our home is so isolated, its address is listed as a ghost town (though we have not seen any ghost)!

This location was perfect for us. Our family of four plus my mother were visiting Bryce Canyon for three days and didn't want the usual motel room experience. 3J Ranch was the right place at an affordable rate. It's about 15 minutes north of the park entrance, so close enough to go in each day but away from the crowds in the morning and evenings. We loved that it was "off the grid", powered by wind and solar energy and we had 20 acres all to ourselves. The land is very rustic (in a great way) but the house is modern, attractive and very clean. Josh is a super host and great communicator of the important factors involved. We would love to go back.
Off Grid YEAH!
It is really wonderful to feel completely alone in this vaste valley. The house is great, and though we experienced a power outage the night prior to our departure following a storm, we keep an overall great memory of our four day stay.
Thank you Josh!
Clean and beautiful home in a solitary setting, but close to state and national parks
We visited in mid-October and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. First of all, Josh was a great host. He was accommodating from our very first inquiry, and made sure that we knew everything we needed to before we arrived.
The house is about a 20 minute drive from the gates at Bryce Canyon, but feels hundreds of miles from the crowds and hotels of Bryce Canyon City. Day trips were easy from the home, and it provided a beautiful and peaceful place to come home to in the evening. You can’t even see another home from the property!
The home itself is in great shape. It was spotlessly clean, and had everything you need. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking, there is a very nice BBQ on the deck and there was plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable.
The property itself provides lots to explore. Bring your bikes and set off for an adventure from the front door. Pine Lake is spectacular and only 6 miles from the home. Our kids (ages 5 - 11), loved the swing set, tether ball, horse shoes and just exploring the property.
Being there in mid-October, we also enjoyed the wood burning stove and well-stocked wood room. We set the thermostat low on the furnace and just enjoyed the atmosphere the fire provided.
The 3J Ranch a memorable place to stay, and well worth the trip!
Gorgeous views, great home base
We loved the 3J ranch! We were on day 8 of a 10 day cross country road trip when we arrived and couldn’t have asked for a better space to relax, recover, and explore Bryce Canyon. The house had everything we needed to cook, stay comfortable, and entertain ourselves. The property is quiet and gorgeous, especially in the evening light. Josh was very communicative and kind. Wonderful experience and we’d love to go back!
Perfect location for our family vacation!
We loved our stay at the 3J Ranch! It was the perfect location for our family vacation. Close for day trip to Bryce Canyon--only 15 min. Our boys also loved just hanging out at the ranch. Tether ball and horse shoes were so much fun! We also enjoyed exploring the back roads of the Dixie National Forest. Didn't even notice that we were off grid--but our kids were more mindful of turning off the lights and not leaving the water running. We would definitely recommend staying here. Very comfortable house with everything you need. Star gazing at night was amazing! No other lights around. We never knew the stars could be so bright--and you could even see the Milky Way!
Great, relaxing quiet place!
We loved our stay at 3J Ranch. Very peaceful, clean and quiet. We traveled with our two young children and the place was very accommodating. It was a short drive to Bryce Canyon and easy access to many trails for riding our side by side. Loved all the windows and patio to enjoy the beautiful scenery. We hope to stay again in the future!
