a perfect Luquillo location

  • 5 of 5

If you like to walk along the beach, or want a comfortable base from which to explore this part of the island, then this apartment is well worth considering. The location, at the end of a road that runs along the beach, is peaceful and safe. One can walk along the water in either direction and enjoy the coastline, which is amazingly varied: shallow coral reefs, crescents of palm-fringed sand, surfable waves, and stretches that seem untouched by any human. The apartment is comfortable, with most everything we needed. We enjoyed the spacious balcony for morning coffee and afternoon rains, and the roof terrace was a nice place to watch the stars at night. Transactions were straight-forward, and everyone was pleasant and helpful. Luquillo is small, but there is a decent supermarket and a Walgreens on the main road for provisions, and plenty of mall-type stores several miles down the road towards Fajardo, should one need them. The kioskos just past the public beach are worth checking out, and--for more of a "fine dining" experience among the kiosks-- La Parilla (kiosk 2) is a delicious choice. I would definitely stay here again.

Outstanding Luquillo Condo

  • 5 of 5

The condo is great and Alana is the best. Everything about the package was as good or better than expected. Alana is prompt and thorough with everything, including email responses during the planning stage and meeting us for check-in and check-out. She is very sincere and trustworthy, which is definitely a shining star in PR. We found this rental after becoming frustrated with the drawbacks of hotels in the area as noted on Tripadvisor. The area is remote, safe, quiet, gated, and beautiful! The adjacent forest was beautiful and gave us plenty of songs from birds and especially el coqui's! The amenities were bountiful and definitely worth the price, such as the great balcony, rooftop deck, gas grill, wonderful kitchen, water filter on refrigerator, air conditioning, in-house washer and dryer, nice decor and three bathrooms! Highly recommended!!

All we needed.

  • 5 of 5

Great accommodations, helpful and prompt hostess, Alana. Short morning walks to the adjoining beach, with a nice cup of coffee in hand, to sit and watch the sunrise, under swaying palm trees. Not a bad start of a day . Close, by car, to shopping and good restaurants. We loved the public beach just west of the complex , about 20 minutes walk or short car ride (there would be a parking fee), with its calm surf, restaurants and other amenities. The condo is very close to Fajardo, to the East , gateway to snorkling trips, boats to Vieques and other islands. Perfect location, with easy access to the east-west highway which would take us anywhere we wanted to go. The third floor patio was a wonderful place to hang out at night and enjoy the cool breeze from the ocean. The three of us - my wife, myself and our son, on spring brake, just loved the place. We will be back.

Awesome beach front penthouse!

  • 5 of 5

The Poza del Mar penthouse condo had everything we needed – and then some! – for the 4 of us. It is in a safe and convenient location, close to everything we wanted to see and do. We stayed here one week during Spring Break. Ilia, the owner, is very responsive – even on New Year’s Day she got back to me! The local property manager, Alana, is wonderful and so very nice! She provided us with lots of info for our stay beforehand and met us upon arrival to give us the remote for the gate and the keys. There are 3 short flights of stairs up to the condo. It is well-stocked with beach chairs, boogie boards, a beach umbrella, toys, etc, as well as items you might need but forget: extension cords, laundry detergent, sunblock, etc.

The beach access and the rooftop terrace were our favorite things! There are miles of warm water beaches to explore and if you walk around Punta La Bandera, you can get to the 60 kiosko restaurants in about 20 minutes by foot. Excellent swimming at Balneario Monsserate bcuz the water is so calm. There is an outdoor shower right inside the gate of the condo to rinse off.

During our stay here, we hiked several trails in El Yunque Rainforest (a 20-minute drive from the condo). If you want to see some beautiful waterfalls, we recommend going very early to La Mina Falls (gates open at 7:30), as this is a big tourist attraction and tour buses galore come up the hill around mid-morning, which make the trails heavy with foot traffic! We also took an off-the-beaten trail to see Juan Diego Falls ( a 40-ft waterfall) and went later around 10am and no one was there. We recommend bringing water shoes to the rainforest if you are going to swim because the rocks can get slippery.

Another highlight was kayaking in the Bio Bay at night in Fajardo (20-min drive). Kaykaying through the mangroves was so much fun and such an incredible experience. And of course, visiting the forts in San Juan and walking around the cobblestone streets was a must-do as well (40-min drive).

Even though it was Spring Break, the condo complex itself was not that crowded. The people we did come across were very nice and appeared to be vacationers as well. On Easter Sunday, the private beach out front was really crowded, as was expected. During the week, however, we had it all to ourselves. There is a kayak rental just down the street that rents single and double glass bottom kayaks starting at $5/half-hour as well as SUP boards for $10/half-hour.

You can't beat this place!

Great spot near it all.

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks in this apartment. It is close to the beach, the rain forest and many adventure areas. It is only a half hour ride away from Old San Juan and minutes from Fajado. The view from the roof of the ocean contrasted with the rain forest is amazing. It really rains in the rain forest! The owner hired a local person to manage the property and Alana is fantastic. She is only minutes away and is very responsive. We'll definitely be back.

Perfect spot for toddlers/young children

  • 4 of 5

We arrived at the condo around 9pm. It's about a 35minute drive from the airport just in time for our 1.5 year old to go to sleep. Use google maps as they're much better than the LL's directions (sorry).

Saw the great view from the balcony the next morning. Private beach is 2 minutes from the front door of the condo through a security gate (everything is gated) The most crowded the beach got was on Sunday and the closest group to us was out of earshot. There was a couple kite surfing in front of us the 1st day on the beach. I think that was the windiest day otherwise we had the beach to ourselves with an occasional person walking by. The water in front of the condo is calm due to a reef but if you want to body surf just walk a half mile to your left.

Amigo grocery store is a10 minute drive from the condo and has most everything you need for your stay. Aromas coffee shop was a great spot for breakfast. We also had dinner at El Rincon (excellent), Boardriders (good for happy hour and bar food), Ceviche hut at kiosks (great paille and ceviche). Stop by El flamboyo for a quick lunch and a medalla. Very local but I enjoyed the atmosphere. We really wanted to eat dinner at Pasta Y pueblo but timing never worked with our toddler. Many places were closed on Tuesday night and the few open were very busy.

Cranked up the A/C in the bedroom at night as it was very humid.

The condo worked out well for us and we would come back again.

Due to the beach location it is extremely private and thus lends itself for hours of relaxation, sun bathing and 'ponding' in the ocean. The sun Rises beautifully each day and is clearly visible. Enjoying a sunset drink on the roof terrace overlooking the Jungle as the sun sets is spectacular. Eating a local fresh catch of the day bought at the nearby town restaurants is a must do for fish lovers. Boogie boarding, after a 3 minute walk over the beach to the bay is something that is always exciting. Driving the Fajardo (15 minute drive) and going on a night canoe trip to the fluorescent bay is something unique and extremely recommendable. A snorkeling trip with the sailing catamarans from one of the close by marinas is another attraction that can not be skipped. A trip to the jungle and a walk to the 'La Mina' waterfalls is a must do. For golfers there are a multitude of Golf courses around (we can set it up through Caribe Golf).
