View of lake from front porch is excellent.
My husband and I just spent 4 weeks at this home. The caretaker, Franklin, met us at a local restaurant. He speaks Spanish and we do not....no problem. Used Google translator in conversation mode and we were able to communicate. Franklin recommended restaurants and activities in the area. Franklin harvested bananas from the yard and as they ripened, we ate some of the best bananas ever. Franklin noticed we were bird watching and put a feeder in a tree for us to place fruit to attract birds. And the birds came. We watched many species come into the yard and also watched parrots and toucans fly over.
The house location is as described quiet, in-town. The hot water and water pressure were adequate for us. Laundry room was in separate building which is typical for Costa Rica. Both washer and dryer worked well. Also used the clothes line inside bldg for finer items. The oven was hard to judge temp because it is a low, high type dial...but we managed. The small TV was a 2005 set and did not have ports for streaming devices. We had an I-pod that we could stream video and the wifi was able to stream video uninterrupted if no other device was being used. Beds were comfortable. Security consisted of iron bars on doors and windows. This allowed windows to be left open and a wonderful breeze moved threw the house day and night...no need for air conditioning. The couch and sitting chairs need replacing. The view of the lake from the front porch is unobstructed. The porch had chairs available and the breeze and view were perfect. On a clear morning we had a perfect view of Arenal volcano from the front yard.
We swam in the lake at a city park just a short walk from the house. There are bathrooms for changing into swimwear at the park. We walked to many restaurants, the bank and grocery. Good location for driving to LaFortuna , Liberia airport
We rented 4 weeks and upgrades needed for TV and furniture make it a 4 out of 5 for anyone looking to rent for more than a few nights.
Thank you for your thorough and factual review. I am sorry we didn't get the TV upgraded during your stay but the new one finally arrived. You were great guests.. Please come again.
Beautiful house and view of lake!
We were met and taken to the house promptly. It is very spacious and clean. We enjoyed the porch, especially the early mornings. Could have had a few essentials i.e. salt, pepper, sugar, dish soap, baggies or plastic storage containers for food as it is hard to buy small amounts for a week or less stay.Did not see the manager but on introduction time. We did have a phone number. Otherwise, all went well.
Actions speak louder than words
We are repeat customers at this property. What better feedback can you get than that? We've been in Costa Rica for 6 months. Our two stays at John's house have been the best weeks here and it's not even close. Franklin is awesome.
Great Location. Beautiful Home.
My family of 7 loved our stay in Nuevo Arenal. An easy walk to lake access. About an hour to touristy stuff in La Fortuna. Walk to downtown restaurants and grocery stores. If you're looking for family time in a beautiful location, this is perfect. If you're looking to do touristy activities without the constant nuisances that come with a tourist town, this is perfect. Franklin, the property manager is great. John is also very helpful. The people in this town are amazingly nice-- Americans and Ticos. Love it here.
Wonderful House in Lovely Town
REVIEW OF HOUSE IN NUEVO ARENAL
My daughter and I had the whole 3-bedroom house to ourselves. It is spacious, pretty and clean, with a wonderfully large terrace in front that catches pleasant breezes and has an awesome view of Lake Arenal and the mountains beyond. The main bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with a huge tub, the kitchen is large and fully equipped and the large living room area has a dining room table, telephone, and entertainment section, very nicely laid out, and there's a laundry room. The house can easily accommodate 6 people.
Lake Arenal is a 10 minute walk away, with a lovely large park, and the swimming is great. We returned to it daily. The town of Nuevo Arenal is small and quaint, with a few bars, restaurants for a variety of tastes, and 2 or 3 supermarkets. The walk up the hill from the house to the town center is fairly challenging. Although we appreciated the exercise and it got easier with each ascent, it would be difficult for physically-challenged people, but taxis are plentiful and cheap.
The nicest thing about Nuevo Arenal, and Costa Rica in general, is the people. Open, friendly and genuine. I could write a book.
We had considered staying in La Fortuna, 40 km away, but I can't begin to say how happy we are that we didn't, and that we chose Nuevo Arenal. While Nuevo Arenal is in the mountains, has a pleasant temperature, apparently year round, and refreshing breezes, La Fortuna is hot and flat and packed with souvenir shops and tour kiosks and everything that comes with being a "tourist" town (albeit with a great view of the volcano) but it's an easy drive away from Nuevo Arenal if you have a rental, or a cheap and scenic bus ride, which we took (1 hour).
John, the owner of the house, was extremely helpful with answering our several pre-vacation emails. He clarified transportation routes (we were bussing it from Liberia Airport) and made inquiries on our behalf. He pointed us to a couple of contacts in town and even helped with our travel-Spanish. He wasn't present at the house; instead he has a friendly and helpful guy, Franklin, who manages the house and picked us up half-way for a reasonable price. He doesn't speak English but is used to dealing with foreigners.
One honourable mention: Enrique at Pacific Tradewinds in Nuevo Arenal was extremely helpful in helping us plan tours - he went above and beyond and we highly recommend hi
Nice lake views walking distance to town
This was the perfect base at lake Arenal for our family trip. It is also really close to the public boat launch and beach.
We enjoyed our stay.
