Property offers pond loaded with small fish, wandering creek, board walk to river, 425 feet of river front, and a mowed 3 acre meadow to watch deer and turkeys from the front covered porch.
Log cabin is very well maintained, with two covered porches, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, large kitchen, wood burner, knotty pine interior walls, washer & dryer, ceiling fans, fully stocked kitchen with microwave, coffee maker, and toaster oven.
Come relax with family and friends and enjoy your own private northern Michigan get-away. Sit around the fire and look up and enjoy the show in the sky. Other activities in the area include canoeing the Rifle River which is one of the best canoeing rivers in northern Michigan. The Rifle River is one of the most popular streams in the entire state on summer weekends.
Both canoeists and tubers flock to this attractive, easygoing northern river on summer weekends. It possesses a mild current, long sections of sandy riverbed, and plentiful swimming holes, all of which make the stream a good option for families and other groups looking for an undemanding float. The Rifle is also attractive, winding past pretty woodlands, summer cottages, and quiet farm fields for much of its length as it makes its way to its outlet at Saginaw Bay.
Or if golfing is your thing, check out Huron Breeze and Red Hawk golf courses they are both excellent.
The Saginaw bay is only 5 miles away and you can drop you boat in the bay at Great Lakes Shores Marina and catch walleyes, perch bass and pike. The Walleye stocking program has developed the Inner Bay as one of the most productive fisheries in the U.S. for Walleye fishing. This watershed is one of Michigan's most diverse areas – its rich resources support agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, outdoor recreations, and a vast variety of wildlife. It is also Michigan's largest watershed (8,709 square miles or 22,556 square kilometers in size), including a part of 22 counties and contains America's largest contiguous freshwater coastal wetland system.
Take a short drive to AuGres and enjoy the Water Funland that offers water slide, go-karts, miniature golf, trout pond and more. If you want to hang at the beach for the day, East Tawas State Park is only a 30 minute drive and offers an awesome beach on Lake Huron.
The location was great. Owner was very accommodating. My kids (5,8,11) LOVED the pond in the back - all types of turtles and fish.... The place is very secluded and there is a lot of space on the river. We stayed mostly around the cabin tho. cell service is spotty (AND WE WERE GLAD). nice inside and out -- comfortable. next time though, I think that I will sleep on the twin beds. I have neck problems and the queen mattress was a bit rough. Don't let it deter you! It won't deter me. We will be back.
I stayed at this property for a long weekend in August. The cabin is awesome! It's more updated looking than the pictures make it seem, it's very clean, and more roomy than I expected. There is a flat screen tv now instead of the older one in the pictures, however there is no cable or internet so be aware of that. I have Verizon and my service was terrible until I got into town. There is also no air conditioning, which to my surprise the cabin stayed pretty cool and comfortable, except for the bedroom at night. Even with the ceiling fan going and the fan I brought, it was still very hot. The property is beautiful and there's an amazing pond loaded with a variety of fish and turtles! I fed them....a lot :) The only issue I had was that the trail leading down to the river is very narrow and overgrown with tons of flowers and plants, so as your trying to swat the bugs away (yes, they were horrible) and carry your things down to the river, it can be a little challenging. I was also under the impression that your right on the river, as in being able to just walk right in with easy access, but it's not. There's a small, mowed out strip and the fire pit, but you're on like a hillside so it's a good 20 feet or so drop off down to the river and it didn't seem doable to climb down the side to get down to the water. I'm not a professional fisher, I just do it for fun, however I couldn't quite figure out how to try fishing that high up and with all the tall grass and branches coming off the slope so I didn't do any fishing from the property. All in all it's a great cabin and the land is beautiful, I'd definitely recommend. Last thing, the driveway is a shared driveway with a few other homes and it's narrow, so go slow around corners!
Exceeded my expectations! Clean, quiet, comfortable and room to roam on this gorgeous piece of property. Close enough to town to run out for supplies but secluded enough to feel the privacy of your own private retreat! The rental process was smooth and owner was fantastic...took my reservation with only a days notice! I will stay here again.
Great place to stay. The Riffle river just a walk or drive away if doing a day trip down the river.
We had a great stay here! It's an excellent property, great for fishing, relaxing, family time, and just minutes away from a canoe livery on the Rifle River. I would definitely stay here again!
This was a great retreat. Simple cabin, but definitely not rustic. It has just what you need to have a quiet getaway. Would definitely return, and would definitely recommend. Seller was also very accomodating and a breeze to work with. Thanks!
