Beautiful waterfront house in Stonington Harbor

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 0 - 7 nights

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 extra queen futon, 1 full bath, sleeps 6 adults

The Brown House is located on the harbor of Stonington Village. Once you get there, you won't need your car! The Brown House gives you beautiful views- a back deck over the water is a peaceful and quiet retreat from the busy town. From the deck, you can watch the whole harbor as well as look out over the small islands of Merchant's Row. It is within walking distance to groceries, library, ice cream, antique shops, ferry terminal, and restaurants. The house is fully furnished with a modern kitchen, Wifi, DVD player, washer/dryer, and a landline. The two bedrooms are upstairs, face the water, and are furnished with queen-sized beds. The living room has a futon and a propane-fired Vermont Castings stove. There is also an alcove bench that could sleep a child.

Walk along the waterfront and watch the harbor bustle along or enjoy day trips to the various islands. The mail boat cruises through tiny islands and takes passengers to the village dock at Isle au Haut. During summer months it also stops at Acadia National Park on Isle au Haut (not Mount Desert). This park covers more than half of Isle au Haut and offers both easy and challenging walking trails, rugged beaches, and spectacular ocean views.

The Brown House has two off-street parking spaces. If you have kayaks or a boat, there is easy access right off of the house's deck at high tide or the public dock 75 yards away. From there, you can explore the various islands of Merchant's Row or head to Isle au Haut. There are kayak rentals nearby.

what a dream

  • 5 of 5

We had no idea what to expect when we arrived at the brown house, but this place is a dream! Overlooking the water, watching the tide roll in and out, waking up every morning to the hustle and bustle of the lobster boats, the sound of a light house in the distance! it was straight out of a perfect novel. Our 2 pups enjoyed it as much as we did, they loved sitting on the deck and watching the boats and the birds go by.

The people of Stonington are some of the the friendliest people we have ever met, and the culture they have and love of their community is wonderful. Once your there you don't need a car! there are the most amazing handmade lobster rolls right out the door at the ice cream stand, a straight from the lobster boats restaurant next door, many art galleries, a market once a week and many beautiful places to walk to, like the lilly pond and a tucked away little beach!

With Acadia National Park being only an hour away we ventured there twice on our vacation, on our second trip there on top of North Bubble Rock WE GOT ENGAGED! it was without a doubt the perfect place to start a new chapter in our lives!

Paradise on the Maine coast

  • 4 of 5

Comfy, well equipped cottage in a beautiful fishing village, away from the tourist buzz. Highly recommend this location for a peaceful holiday on the coast. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

Peaceful and Relaxing with an Ocean Harbour View

  • 4 of 5

A clean and well maintained home with a nice ocean harbour view. A peaceful and relaxing place to unwind. The owner provides sufficient kitchen and bathroom supplies. There are plenty of books available to read, board games to play, and a radio to listen to. Bring or rent some DVD's to watch, as there is no TV reception.

There's a great and reasonable restaurant across the street and fresh lobster for your own cooking can be bought nearby.

For those chilly days/nights, a gas heater / fireplace is available to keep the home warm and cozy.

Recommended for anyone wanting to "get away from it all". I would recommend this place to my own friends. I plan to return to the area sometime in the future.

Great little place - nice in town location

  • 4 of 5

My husband, daughter and I stayed here last summer for a week. It was such a great little place. Very comfortable! Had everything we needed and was easy to walk to the market, the theater and shops. The farmers market had fresh local food and crafts. Lisa made everything very easy and even let us bring our dog! The kayaking was amazing! We really enjoyed being part of village life for a week and are only sorry we wont be able to return this year. Maybe next year! I am recommending this rental to all of my friends and have sent the link to the web page to several already!

Relax, refresh, renew at the Brown House

  • 5 of 5

The house is in a great location and is a great place to just relax. Internet is spotty, wireless from the library across the street and you'll need to bring a little gas grill, but other than that it is a great place to unwind body and mind.

The people in the area are very friendly... Seasons has a great selection of wine... Harbor Cafe down the street has a great menu...

If you are looking for someplace to relax and renew this is it.. Just don't go there looking for a 5 star resort. All the comforts of home for the most part.
