Tropical Hideaway has an 18m (58') wide panoramic Infinity pool and is often quoted as being one of the top ten pools in the Caribbean. The Infinity pool is a stunning feature of the property and with the environmentally friendly solar heating, the pool can be enjoyed at all times of the year. Typically our daytime pool temperatures are around 33 deg C in summer and 29 deg C in Winter. That’s an amazing 94 deg F falling to a very inviting 84 deg F in winter. The extra 3 degrees C created by our solar heating can make an enormous difference to your enjoyment of the pool. There is a swim up sunken pool bar, complete with fridge, ice-maker and sink, a preparation and serving area and a generous supply of acrylic beverage glasses. Underwater coral seats are conveniently positioned around the submerged bar and this is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of your own personal wine or indulge in your favourite drink or snack. Adjoining the pool is a Gazebo complete with a large daybed and the views from here are just incredible. A perfect place to relax and read a book or simply enjoy the spectacular scenery. The pool deck is tiled using natural stone coral and provides a safe, non slip and cool surface to walk on. Sun loungers, parasols, sunbathing mats and various chairs provide ample seating and relaxation areas around the pool. The pool and pool deck are west facing and receive the sun for most of the day. A cooling Caribbean breeze is usually present and the Gazebo and large parasols provide areas of shade for the hottest part of the day.
As the evening sun slowly sets and you look out over the Caribbean Sea, you cannot fail to be impressed. Sunsets from here can be amazing with the elusive 'Green Flash' often being seen. The setting is simply perfect and with underwater pool lights and discreet Led lighting enhancing the evening ambiance, the special moment can continue long after the sun has set.

Princess Margaret Beach is the nicest beach on the Island. Pristine and uncrowded and a short 20 - 25 minute walk down the road. A few parts of the road are steep. Most people walk down to town, the restaurants or the beach and catch a taxi back. Taxis are cheap and plentiful. Some guests walk both ways and some guests hire a car for a few days to explore the Island. Princess Margaret Beach is ideal for children and adults alike. It is very safe with turquoise blue, warm, calm waters. The beach is stunning with lovely white powdery sand. There is a very nice restaurant on the beach and there are numerous other restaurants and bars on the island. Snorkelling is good on both points at either end of the beach.
The Bequia board-walk is now complete allowing you to walk from the beach at Lower Bay over a small headland onto the stunning Princess Margaret Beach. You can then walk over Princess Margaret Beach to the next headland which now has a spectacular board-walk suspended from the rock face. This connects to the Belmont Walkway, passing several bars, restaurants, the two local dive shops, various small shops and cafes and eventually leads into town.
Local 'Dollar' buses travel the main routes with cheap fares to match the name. Taxi's are cheap and plentiful and our 3 local taxi companies provide fixed fares around the Island. Example fares are around 7 US to Princess Margaret Beach or 9 US into town (up to 4 people). We also offer our very own car hire service from $35 US per day.
Tropical Hideaway has without doubt some of the finest rooms on Bequia, and coupled with the spectacular panoramic ocean views and the beautiful evening sunsets, you soon realize you are enjoying, what many say, are the finest views on Bequia, from the finest accommodation on Bequia.
Our desire is to fulfill your dream and on that basis we invite you to read our individual room offerings and discover which of our amazing boutique style accommodations you prefer the most. We know you will enjoy the experience.
We originally arrived in the Caribbean in 1996 after making a 3 week transatlantic crossing aboard our sailing yacht 'Rainbow Spirit'. This was the beginning of another adventure and after sailing and exploring the Caribbean Islands for 2 years we eventually bought a 2 acre plot of land on the Island of Bequia. Having already committed to a world circumnavigation, we set sail again in 1998, went through the Panama Canal and spent the next three years travelling around the world with our three daughters. Although we visited hundreds of white sand, sun-drenched tropical islands, we found none of them compared to the special beauty and charm of Bequia. We returned in 2001 and finally made a start on building our 'Tropical Hideaway'.
Building in the Caribbean was never going to be easy and after the frustrations of 2 years turning into 3 years and 3 years turning into 4 years we finally finished construction in 2011. Eight years of full time building and a cost overrun of around 300%. The project was huge, far bigger than we ever imagined, but our hard work, frustrations, pain and suffering eventually paid off and we now have a remarkable property often quoted as having 'the finest views on Bequia, from the finest accommodation on Bequia'.
Our daughters have now left to start their own lives and adventures, returning when time and funds allow. Our eldest daughter is now married and lives in New Zealand. Our middle daughter started the first Spa's and treatment centres on Bequia and is now employed by the rich and famous from all over the world. Our youngest daughter is currently working at a safari lodge in a remote part of Zambia and returns to Tropical Hideaway for the December to April season where she offers her spa treatments and therapy work. As you can see, our wanderlust lifestyle has left a lasting impression on our daughters and they are all enjoying an adventurous and exciting life as we have done.
Martin & Julie Mansfield purchased this apartment in 1998
Bequia truly is a unique Island. Large enough to be interesting and exciting, yet small enough to retain its local charm and uniqueness that only a small off the beaten track Caribbean Island can offer. It truly is an undiscovered paradise that some well known travel journalists are only just discovering and several well known newspapers and magazines have recently published articles and all describe Bequia as an undiscovered paradise, about to be discovered.
Specializing in couples and small groups we offer an informal, private and relaxed atmosphere and we pride ourselves with our genuine friendly service and the experience we afford our guests.Tropical Hideaway has one of the finest hillside locations on Bequia and coupled with the incredible heated Infinity edge pool, the spectacular panoramic ocean views & the beautiful evening sunsets, you soon realize you are enjoying, what many say, are the finest views on Bequia, from the finest accommodation on Bequia. The views are simply amazing and are forever changing as ships and yachts of all sizes and nationalities pass by on their journeys and adventures.

My wife and I Spent the early part of February at the Villa to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Having had the pleasure of visiting Bequia on several other occasions we knew what we were going to, but we had no idea how beautiful and spectacular this property was. We stayed in the infinity room which was probably the size of a penthouse suite in any 5* plus hotel . Attention to detail here is outstanding and Martin&Julie must be congratulated for their superb hospitality. Nothing is too much ,no Question too trivial. You come away from here truly relaxed . The only downside is that your vacation is too short and the return is too long to wait for.....but have no doubt , you will return. We have the Bequia bug and its largely due in part to people like Martin & Julie and the friendly faces of the islanders. Needless to say we have booked our return......
Tropical Hideaway consists of five separate luxury accommodations, the Penthouse Suite, Palm & Hibiscus Cottage, the Pool House and the Infinity Studio. If the Infinity Studio is not available for your dates, please visit our website tropicalhideawaybequia.com or our other HomeAway listings, as some of our other lovely accommodations may still be available.
We have just returned from TH having spent just over 2 weeks there in February. This is our 5th return visit to this fabulous property and our 5th return visit to the infinity room.
Its become to us more than just a holiday rental now, its just like a home away from home , largely in part to the absolutely fantastic hospitality of Martin & Julie who go the extra mile in making sure all their guests are having the best time possible. The Infinity room itself is a very spacious, well appointed room, very airy and cool in the heat of the day ( we didn’t even need to use the A/C) .
A very large Bed with quality linens made for a very comfortable nights sleep. The cooking facilities are basic but sufficiently Adequate and suited our needs as we prefer to eat out on vacation more often than cooking in. The Bathroom is light , spacious with coral stone floor/wall tiles giving a very Caribbean feel with quality fitting throughout. The house has a fabulous charcoal barbeque area which is freely available for all house guests to use .
You may have read on other reviews about how fabulous the pool area, the views across the bay or how the hosts provide a 1st class provisioning service but seeing is really believing. Its fair to say that it takes a little effort to get to bequia , whether you fly direct via Barbados or go via St Vincent then get the ferry, but all this extra effort is rewarded in a total relaxation vacation . How many of us can say we have holidayed on an island with no traffic lights, no roundabouts and no stress. Bequia has the lot, and TH is the idyll that makes it memorable and thats why TH has so many repeat bookings. Martin & Julie are clearly doing something right.
Suggest you try it out , we are planning our return already, we would be fools not to.
We recently returned from a two week stay at Tropical Hideaway staying in the Infinity Studio.
What an absolutely superb location with wonderful hosts in Martin and Julie. Bequia is such a wonderful Caribbean island and remains unspoilt with great charm and warm friendly people. We always felt safe where ever we travelled, either on foot or by car.
T.H is everything and more that has already been written in previous reviews. Attention to detail is second to none while the intimate setting offers wonderful privacy if guest so wish or can mingle with other guests (usually around the incredible infinity pool) in this 5 accommodation facility.
We stayed in the Infinity Studio tucked away only a few steps from the pool area which was wonderful as my wife and I could swim any time day or night. The accommodations are well furnished and the staff really goes out of their way to keep the facility impeccably clean and tidy. We rarely need to use the air conditioner as there was nearly always a cooling breeze which was most welcome when sleeping. If you’re looking to get away from the "all inclusive" resorts this for us was a fabulous way to go. We shall be going back for sure, Thanks Martin and Julie for helping make our vacation undoubtedly one of our best ever!!
The moment we arrived we were impressed by the presentation of the property, the location and the outstanding facilities. I am generally hard to please and all the apartments were superb. We stayed in the infinity studio and the high standard of furnishings, the views and pool blew us away. We cant wait to go back.
This was the holiday of our life! I think every review so far mentioned the view and the pool, therefore I want to focus on less obvious things: Martin and Julie are the most perfect hosts you can imagine, they even organized a beach barbeque for their guests. Although the Tropical Hideaway is located on a quite steep hill you don’t have to carry anything up there because Martin and Julie provide almost everything you need (food, drinks ). If you don’t like the exercise of walking, taxis are available everywhere anytime. There is a barbeque area and Martin has a big fridge with meat and fish of any type for very reasonable prices. I will never forget the sunsets we were watching together in the pool, the people we met there, and wonderful Infinity pool, watching the hummingbirds while having breakfast. I would give 10 stars if Tripadvisor would allow and I am sure that almost no 6 star hotel in the world could provide a more perfect experience.
The Infinity studio is perfect: only a few steps away from the pool, wunderful view, hummock available
All I can say is unbelievable. The island is great, small, native, and beautiful. Martin, Julie, and Corrie were the best hosts. Whatever you need, it was taken care of. The room (Infinity) was awesome. The stone bathtub in the main room and the history behind it make the experience only to be topped by the day bed next to the pool. Nothing like waking up in the morning to look out over the bay and see a rainbow just past the ships. We will be back and we recommend you go as well!
In life to obtain the impossible means that you have to push yourself beyond the norm. This also applies to Bequia as it takes a bit of effort to get there but once you do then you soon realise why you did. Add to this the excitement of staying at Tropical Hideaway you will soon question why it took you so long. This property is absolutely stunning and every element of the time spent there is a joy. Whilst the property can accommodate 10 or more people,it never feels like you are encroaching on other people as all the rooms are secluded and private, each with their own fabulous, uninterrupted views the the azure Caribbean sea. We have been lucky enough to have stayed at TH on 4 occasions and we opt for the Infinity Room as we like the proximity to the pool area and whilst the other rooms offer more cooking facilities we prefer to go out of an evening to try out the various restaurants in and around admiralty bay. The Infinity Room is a very spacious room offering a beautiful bathroom and chill out area , basic cooking facilities including hob ,microwave, fridge etc and plenty of utensils. The welcome pack of provisions which are in the room on your arrival are perfect for starting you off and the Owners offer a complete provisioning service should you wish to take that up,anything from fresh fish to rum! There is also the excellent media services incl wifi along with a bath tub that could accommodate a giant and very comfortable bed. What more do you need ? Oh, forgot to mention the pool ,which is bigger than many hotels we have stayed and is the prelude to the most amazing views of the harbour below. Martin and Julie (the owners)have thought about every minute detail on what people need to relax ,whether it be a rum punch, a downloaded movie or a reservation at a restaurant or organising a trip ,nothing is too trivial but each is very personal and makes you value the service. Bequia itself is a charming ,uncomplicated island where all you really need to decide is what you want to eat .the beaches are wonderful, safe and almost always empty and the main town is completely accessible by the coastal pathway ,unlike other islands where hotels have taken the access to the beach away from main roads. Oh,on Bequia there are no traffic lights nor roundabouts so getting round the island is very relaxed . The pace of life on the island is a lot slower than other islands but that adds to the charm ,after all your on holiday ! For us TH is the perfect vacation.
Beautiful Bequia (pronounced bek way) is an undiscovered paradise, the Caribbean of 20 years ago. Covering an area of only 7 square miles, Bequia lies in the warm tropical waters of the Caribbean Sea. It is just a short plane hop from the ever popular Barbados and next to the renowned Mustique, both favourite islands of the rich and famous. It is the largest of the Grenadine islands known also as the ‘jewels of the Caribbean’ and is blessed with several pristine, white sandy beaches many of which are totally natural and undeveloped.
If you want resort hotels, nightclubs and beaches full of sunbeds, don't come to Bequia. If you want to discover the undiscovered, visit our beautiful Island, enjoy the uncrowded pristine white sandy beaches, swim and snorkel in our safe and warm Caribbean waters and experience the genuine friendliness of the local Bequian people.
Bequia is an all year round destination with daytime temperatures consistently averaging between 24C (75F) and 30C (86F) throughout the year. A "chilly" evening in the winter months (January to March) might see a low of around 22C (72F) and in the summer months the temperature will occasionally reach 32C (90F). Trade winds bring cooling breezes for most of the year and the famous Christmas Winds bring stronger breezes and livelier seas, perfect for the keen sailor.
The "dry" season from December to May coincides with the "high" season for visitors, with clear sunny skies, low humidity and minimal rainfall. The Island is totally reliant on rain for its water, so the arrival of the "rainy" season in May/June is always a blessing. The warmer, summer months of May to November are a welcome mixture of occasional showers, sunshine and light breezes, with the isolated heavy downpour. Showers are usually short and mainly come in the night.
Bequia is far south in the hurricane belt, and although tropical storms will occasionally approach in the peak months of August to October, most disturbances either pass to the north or dissipate before they reach the Grenadine Islands chain.
Please note the so called “rainy season” is not a particularly reliable statement any more as the seasons have become very mixed and variable. The weather forecast for our part of the Caribbean typically states, ‘Sunshine with a mix of cloud and occasional showers’. It does reflect the changing climate and weather patterns and seems to be accurate for most of the year. At least the forecaster can never get it wrong.
Having two dive shops and around 24 dive sites, Bequia is a divers paradise. Our diverse marine environment includes relaxing reefs, wall dives, drift dives and even a few wrecks. You can still dive and snorkel away from the crowds in crystal clear waters with reefs that are still pristine. Our abundant and diverse sea life ranges from 100’s of species of Tropical Fish, Octopus, Sea Turtles and Sea Horses to name but a few. Bequia has it all and will satisfy beginners trying out snorkelling, scuba divers who wish to take a Padi course and experienced divers wishing to go on an exhilarating dive. Looking for an adventure? Try Discover Scuba with one of our two dive shops and enjoy a shallow reef dive with one of their experienced instructors.
