Tropical Hideaway has an 18m (58') wide panoramic Infinity pool and is often quoted as being one of the top ten pools in the Caribbean. The Infinity pool is a stunning feature of the property and with the environmentally friendly solar heating, the pool can be enjoyed at all times of the year. Typically our daytime pool temperatures are around 33 deg C in summer and 29 deg C in Winter. That’s an amazing 94 deg F falling to a very inviting 84 deg F in winter. The extra 3 degrees C created by our solar heating can make an enormous difference to your enjoyment of the pool. There is a swim up sunken pool bar, complete with fridge, ice-maker and sink, a preparation and serving area and a generous supply of acrylic beverage glasses. Underwater coral seats are conveniently positioned around the submerged bar and this is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of your own personal wine or indulge in your favourite drink or snack. Adjoining the pool is a Gazebo complete with a large daybed and the views from here are just incredible. A perfect place to relax and read a book or simply enjoy the spectacular scenery. The pool deck is tiled using natural stone coral and provides a safe, non slip and cool surface to walk on. Sun loungers, parasols, sunbathing mats and various chairs provide ample seating and relaxation areas around the pool. The pool and pool deck are west facing and receive the sun for most of the day. A cooling Caribbean breeze is usually present and the Gazebo and large parasols provide areas of shade for the hottest part of the day.
As the evening sun slowly sets and you look out over the Caribbean Sea, you cannot fail to be impressed. Sunsets from here can be amazing with the elusive 'Green Flash' often being seen. The setting is simply perfect and with underwater pool lights and discreet Led lighting enhancing the evening ambiance, the special moment can continue long after the sun has set.
Tropical Hideaway has a large barbecue area and our licensed on-site shop allows guests to purchase an excellent selection of fish and meats just perfect for the barbecue. We also offer a wide range of quality wines, beers and spirits and for your convenience all these and much more are now available on site and all at local supermarket prices.
Please note the very large Infinity pool together with the Gazebo, pool patio and barbecue area are shared by any guests who are in residence at the time.
All our accommodations have the latest 40" flat screen internet TV's that give access to our in-house entertainment system supplying high definition films, TV, music and internet radio. High speed internet and Wi-Fi is supplied in all areas. Professional quality ceiling fans are positioned over all the beds and for those really hot days when the cooling Caribbean breeze has taken a rest, you can turn on the bedroom air conditioner until the breeze returns. All indoor living areas and bedrooms are fully screened allowing you the convenience of a mosquito free environment with the ambiance of outdoor living and stunning views of the Caribbean Sea.
Princess Margaret Beach is the nicest beach on the Island. Pristine and uncrowded and a short 20 - 25 minute walk down the road. A few parts of the road are steep. Most people walk down to town, the restaurants or the beach and catch a taxi back. Taxis are cheap and plentiful. Some guests walk both ways and some guests hire a car for a few days to explore the Island. Princess Margaret Beach is ideal for children and adults alike. It is very safe with turquoise blue, warm, calm waters. The beach is stunning with lovely white powdery sand. There is a very nice restaurant on the beach and there are numerous other restaurants and bars on the island. Snorkelling is good on both points at either end of the beach.
The Bequia board-walk is now complete allowing you to walk from the beach at Lower Bay over a small headland onto the stunning Princess Margaret Beach. You can then walk over Princess Margaret Beach to the next headland which now has a spectacular board-walk suspended from the rock face. This connects to the Belmont Walkway, passing several bars, restaurants, the two local dive shops, various small shops and cafes and eventually leads into town.
Local 'Dollar' buses travel the main routes with cheap fares to match the name. Taxi's are cheap and plentiful and our 3 local taxi companies provide fixed fares around the Island. Example fares are around 7 US to Princess Margaret Beach or 9 US into town (up to 4 people). We also offer our very own car hire service from $35 US per day.
Tropical Hideaway has without doubt some of the finest rooms on Bequia, and coupled with the spectacular panoramic ocean views and the beautiful evening sunsets, you soon realize you are enjoying, what many say, are the finest views on Bequia, from the finest accommodation on Bequia.
Our desire is to fulfill your dream and on that basis we invite you to read our individual room offerings and discover which of our amazing boutique style accommodations you prefer the most. We know you will enjoy the experience.
We originally arrived in the Caribbean in 1996 after making a 3 week transatlantic crossing aboard our sailing yacht 'Rainbow Spirit'. This was the beginning of another adventure and after sailing and exploring the Caribbean Islands for 2 years we eventually bought a 2 acre plot of land on the Island of Bequia. Having already committed to a world circumnavigation, we set sail again in 1998, went through the Panama Canal and spent the next three years travelling around the world with our three daughters. Although we visited hundreds of white sand, sun-drenched tropical islands, we found none of them compared to the special beauty and charm of Bequia. We returned in 2001 and finally made a start on building our 'Tropical Hideaway'.
Building in the Caribbean was never going to be easy and after the frustrations of 2 years turning into 3 years and 3 years turning into 4 years we finally finished construction in 2011. Eight years of full time building and a cost overrun of around 300%. The project was huge, far bigger than we ever imagined, but our hard work, frustrations, pain and suffering eventually paid off and we now have a remarkable property often quoted as having 'the finest views on Bequia, from the finest accommodation on Bequia'.
Our daughters have now left to start their own lives and adventures, returning when time and funds allow. Our eldest daughter is now married and lives in New Zealand. Our middle daughter started the first Spa's and treatment centres on Bequia and is now employed by the rich and famous from all over the world. Our youngest daughter is currently working at a safari lodge in a remote part of Zambia and returns to Tropical Hideaway for the December to April season where she offers her spa treatments and therapy work. As you can see, our wanderlust lifestyle has left a lasting impression on our daughters and they are all enjoying an adventurous and exciting life as we have done.
Martin & Julie Mansfield purchased this villa in 1998
Bequia truly is a unique Island. Large enough to be interesting and exciting, yet small enough to retain its local charm and uniqueness that only a small off the beaten track Caribbean Island can offer. It truly is an undiscovered paradise that some well known travel journalists are only just discovering and several well known newspapers and magazines have recently published articles and all describe Bequia as an undiscovered paradise, about to be discovered.
Specializing in couples and small groups we offer an informal, private and relaxed atmosphere and we pride ourselves with our genuine friendly service and the experience we afford our guests.Tropical Hideaway has one of the finest hillside locations on Bequia and coupled with the incredible heated Infinity edge pool, the spectacular panoramic ocean views & the beautiful evening sunsets, you soon realize you are enjoying, what many say, are the finest views on Bequia, from the finest accommodation on Bequia. The views are simply amazing and are forever changing as ships and yachts of all sizes and nationalities pass by on their journeys and adventures.

Tropical Hideaway has to be the best accommodation on Bequia. The individual cottages and penthouse have all been designed, to be private, but to also maximise the breathtaking views over the bay. The stunning infinity pool with swim up bar and stone seats is an ideal location to while away an afternoon. The gardener Marlon keeps the grounds immaculate. The Penthouse exceeded all expectations. Its beautifully designed with quality furnishings. On the ground floor there is a well equipped gym. A spiral staircase leads you up to the large outdoor living area with hammock, swing seats, internet TV, large sofa area, leading out onto a curved private balcony overlooking the infinity pool and the bay. The kitchen has everything you will need. I loved the open, but also private bathroom, which is situated to the side of the living area. There is a large walk in wardrobe, and the biggest bed I've ever slept in. I cant fault anything about Tropical Hideaway, its perfect! The beaches, restaurants and town are a 20 min stroll down the hill. All the information you will ever need about the area, best grocery stores , takeaway menus, taxis etc is all in the welcome pack. You can also order bottles of rum, cases of beer wine etc from Martin and Julie to save you carrying it. If you are looking for a laid back casual island, but with 5 star accommodation then look no further. Im sure the owners have missed a zero off the price, so book now before the realise!!
Breathtaking comes to mind when you enter Tropical Hideaway Bequia. My Husband and I stayed in the Penthouse Suite and words can not express the amazing views and beauty of this suite. The living room and kitchen are outside looking over the inifinity pool and waking up and looking out at the ocean is so tranquil and surreal. I never knew it could be so beautiful. It's spacious and inviting and comfortable. Julie and Martin thought of everything in the design. You can feel the love and thought that went into building this remarkable place. We recommend highly staying at Tropical Hideaway Bequia Definitely try out the Penthouse Suite. I know your won't be disappointed. My Husband and I will definitely be back!
Tropical Hideaway is a collection of beautiful villas grouped together in a fabulous location, with the infinity pool as a spectacular centrepiece.
We stayed in all but one of the villas during our six-week stay, and each of them is charming in its own way -- from the secluded and romantic HIbiscus Cottage to the splendid penthouse with its huge terrace and incredible panoramic views.
The charm of Bequia is its simplicity and natural beauty. Tropical Hideaway complements these perfectly. You won't be disappointed.
We stayed in the Penthouse for a wonderful week. I won't repeat all the rave-reviews and compliments that other reviewers have paid to this spectacular place and to Martin & Julie who built, own and host it. Please just read them - everything they say about the Penthouse and the place in general - they're all true. We'd go back in a heartbeat!
From the moment we saw the pictures online, we knew we had to find a way to the Tropical Hideaway. It was an easy 10 minute flight from St. Lucia and before we knew it we were in paradise. We rented the penthouse suite for a week and it was absolutely spectacular. You first enter into a large entry way with a seating area and a gym. A spiral staircase brings you to a landing with an additional seating area and a library. The room was absolutely gorgeous. The bedroom had an over sized comfy California king bed.
There is an indoor outdoor kind of living in the penthouse. the views are to die for. We sat for hours just overlooking the harbor, neighboring beaches and the infinity pool. By far the best pool on the island is the infinity pool at the Tropical Hideaway. It was very relaxing and the views are to die for.
The tropical hideaway is a spectacular place. Every detail of the property was well thought out. The owners Julie and Martin were excellent and courteous hosts. They really made us feel like home along with their amazing 3 Bengal cats. They helped us book with two excursions and gave us alot of tips on where to go on the island. We sailed to neighboring islands and visited the Tobago Cays. The cays are out of this world!
We never thought of going to the Grenadines, because we thought it would be difficult to get there. It truly was very simple if you use LIAT or SVG airways from a larger connecting island. Bequai and the Grenadines are truly a hidden gem that you must see.
We will certainly do it all over again and planning our next trip.
It is our fourth time to Tropical Hideaway, this is home away from home. Julie & Martin are extremely attentive to their guests and every year they improve their villa, rooms and services (small store at the villa with just about everything you can need) to facilitate your stay. Georgeous villa, rooms, view, pool... 20 min. Steep Walk to best beaches; lower bay, princess Margaret and to town Boardwalk. Taxi's are reasonable prices if you don't feel to walk. Favorite restaurants for lunch The reef and Jack Bar. Dinner; Fernando, L'Auberge, Sugar Reef, Figue tree, Mac's. All in all a beautiful get away and would recommend it to anyone who needs a little relaxation, you will definitely see us again!
We rented out the entire property for a week in July to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We brought along our five children and both sets of grandparents. From the moment we booked this trip, Martin and Julie were so helpful answering the many questions we had.
My husband and I stayed in the Penthouse Suite. The huge bed was so comfortable and the balcony that overlooks the pool and ocean is simply breathtaking. We enjoyed relaxing at night on the balcony with the entire family, swinging in the hammocks with the cool breeze. We did not have any problems with bugs or mosquitos while staying at Tropical Hideaway, although we did experience them while eating at some of the outdoor restaurants right on the beach. The Penthouse Suite has a full-sized refrigerator along with a stove and plenty of room for cooking. I can't say enough about how accommodating Martin and Julie were. Martin arranged for us to hire a minister to preside over our vow renewal ceremony and he even took photos for us! Julie ordered flowers for me from St. Vincent and they were perfect! They helped us arrange taxi rides and even provided two cell phones for our use while staying at Tropical Hideaway.
I would highly recommend hiring Elfic the "Singing Chef" to cater a meal. It was well worth the price and his singing was amazing. It was the most memorable part of our trip. The taxi drivers were readily available and would generally arrive withing 10 minutes of our phoning. Please visit Faye if you venture out to Princess Margaret Beach. She's a very fun local who sells jewelry on the beach. We really enjoyed Jack's bar at Princess Margaret and meeting the families that sailed in and ate at the bar. Take the extra time to take the pathway from Princess Margaret around to the other beaches. You will pass the ice cream shop, Mac's Pizza, and several other good places to eat. You will also find two dive shop side by side, and we highly recommend Dive adventures. When we lost some gear they sold us replacements at a reasonable price and were very helpful. Another highlight of our trip was the boat we chartered, Petti Cash, with Jason. His father owns the ferry service, and he has the largest speed boat on the island. He took our family on a day excursion to Tabago Keys, Mayreau and dropped my husband and son off at Canouan to golf. I can't say enough about what a wonderful time we had staying at Tropical Hideaway and we can't wait to return!
Beautiful Bequia (pronounced bek way) is an undiscovered paradise, the Caribbean of 20 years ago. Covering an area of only 7 square miles, Bequia lies in the warm tropical waters of the Caribbean Sea. It is just a short plane hop from the ever popular Barbados and next to the renowned Mustique, both favourite islands of the rich and famous. It is the largest of the Grenadine islands known also as the ‘jewels of the Caribbean’ and is blessed with several pristine, white sandy beaches many of which are totally natural and undeveloped.
If you want resort hotels, nightclubs and beaches full of sunbeds, don't come to Bequia. If you want to discover the undiscovered, visit our beautiful Island, enjoy the uncrowded pristine white sandy beaches, swim and snorkel in our safe and warm Caribbean waters and experience the genuine friendliness of the local Bequian people.
Bequia is an all year round destination with daytime temperatures consistently averaging between 24C (75F) and 30C (86F) throughout the year. A "chilly" evening in the winter months (January to March) might see a low of around 22C (72F) and in the summer months the temperature will occasionally reach 32C (90F). Trade winds bring cooling breezes for most of the year and the famous Christmas Winds bring stronger breezes and livelier seas, perfect for the keen sailor.
The "dry" season from December to May coincides with the "high" season for visitors, with clear sunny skies, low humidity and minimal rainfall. The Island is totally reliant on rain for its water, so the arrival of the "rainy" season in May/June is always a blessing. The warmer, summer months of May to November are a welcome mixture of occasional showers, sunshine and light breezes, with the isolated heavy downpour. Showers are usually short and mainly come in the night.
Bequia is far south in the hurricane belt, and although tropical storms will occasionally approach in the peak months of August to October, most disturbances either pass to the north or dissipate before they reach the Grenadine Islands chain.
Please note the so called “rainy season” is not a particularly reliable statement any more as the seasons have become very mixed and variable. The weather forecast for our part of the Caribbean typically states, ‘Sunshine with a mix of cloud and occasional showers’. It does reflect the changing climate and weather patterns and seems to be accurate for most of the year. At least the forecaster can never get it wrong.
Having two dive shops and around 24 dive sites, Bequia is a divers paradise. Our diverse marine environment includes relaxing reefs, wall dives, drift dives and even a few wrecks. You can still dive and snorkel away from the crowds in crystal clear waters with reefs that are still pristine. Our abundant and diverse sea life ranges from 100’s of species of Tropical Fish, Octopus, Sea Turtles and Sea Horses to name but a few. Bequia has it all and will satisfy beginners trying out snorkelling, scuba divers who wish to take a Padi course and experienced divers wishing to go on an exhilarating dive. Looking for an adventure? Try Discover Scuba with one of our two dive shops and enjoy a shallow reef dive with one of their experienced instructors.
We now have available our brand new forty page 2016 guidebook about Tropical Hideaway and the Island of Bequia. It has detailed information about local services, the fun things to do, our local restaurants, day trips to nearby islands and a wealth of other information invaluable for anyone intending to visit our beautiful island.
