A superb villa in a wonderful part of France

  • 5 of 5

This property was a real surprise, a wonderful little gem nestled in the hillside above a sleepy little village in the Herault. Fully equiped with everything we needed to make it a stay to remember, from the well equipped kitchen to the wonderfully comfortable sitting room to the cool welcoming pool with its array of loungers.

A great jumping off point to explore this most secluded part of France with its amazing birdlife (Buzzards, Golden Aurioles and Vultures), great food and wonderfully friendly people, it's all there.

Drive through the eye wateringly scenic gorges or laze the lunch hour (or two) away in a cafe and I guarantee that you will want to come back.

Fully recommend to anyone

A great location near a old village with a wonderful shop and bar. Great views from the garden.

  • 4 of 5

The property is well located an hours drive from Montpellier and a few miles off the motorway. The property itself is tired and in need of painting inside. The bathrooms too are in need of updating. We were initially disappointed that it was dated and items were broken- the parasol and a number of light bulbs. The house layout worked well and it was lovely and cool in the heat of the day. We loved the outside space: the pool, numerous seating areas, ping pong table and the views. The local village was delightful and we enjoyed walking from the villa in the surrounding countryside. A great base too to explore further afield. There is no shortage of things to do and we could have happily spent 2 weeks in the area.

We would certainly return to the area. We felt that it was expensive for the dated interior of the property.

Owner's Response: Every year we do a lot of work to try and improve the property and the experience of our guests. Recently we have concentrated our efforts on the exterior, pool and garden as feedback tells us this is where people spend most of their time. As a result we accept that the interior has been a little neglected. We have therefore decided this year to undertake significant redecoration inside, in time for the 2018 season. From time to time light bulbs and other items will fail and need replacing. We therefore have a drawer in the house containing spare bulbs etc which can easily be replaced. If other items fail during a guest's stay (parasols etc are quite vulnerable to strong gusts of wind) we will happily refund replacement of similar items providing guests let us know in advance.

Spacious, clean, well equipped, good location.

  • 5 of 5

We love this property, away from it all yet not isolated and surrounded by wildlife. Lots to see and do with Sete plage just an hour away but with beautiful scenery on the doorstep, if you're into horses try Domain de Gaillac just up the road. It's a great house with everything you could possibly need for a great holiday. Weather was good as well!

Tranquil setting in a comfortable villa

  • 5 of 5

The villa is well equipped and in a secluded location. It is well placed to visit many of the local attractions that include medieval towns, gorges and local markets. The pool, boules pitch and table tennis table provide a welcome distraction from lazing on the sunbeds, reading, drinking local wines and eating cheese. The surrounding area, particularly to the north, contains some stunning scenery. We stayed for two weeks but this was not long enough to explore the area.

Excellent Villa in a Wonderful Setting

  • 5 of 5

I had never heard of Soubès but was extremely pleased to discover this property which is located in beautiful countryside just outside the rather quaint village and quite close to Lodève, a nearby small market town.

The region around Soubès/Lodève is unspoilt and largely agricultural, with many vinyards. A future visit must include a tasting or two! There are many charming family run restaurants in the area which offer exceptional value; indeed, it is difficult to understand how such good cuisine, leave alone wine, can be offered at such prices.

The villa is well maintained and very comfortable. The pool is a particular bonus; at least it will be a little later in the year!

I'm looking forward to a return visit later in the year, as and when the opportunity arises and would highly recommend it to others.

La Lavande, the perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

La Lavande is the perfect getaway for those looking for peace, nature and French idyll. There are lots of places to visit nearby, especially for nature lovers. We enjoyed the perfectly planned gardens, with stunning views over the village Soubes, with plenty of space for social activities such as the large dining table and barbecue, swimming pool, petang, table tennis, as well as " rooms" for those looking for a quiet moment with a book with maybe a Ricard pastis. The house is very well designed and can accommodate many beds. We enjoyed our stay so much and our June week passed far too quickly.

Soubes is a pretty village in the wine growing region of Languedoc Rousillon where narrow sreets with flower laden balconies lead to a shady square with cafe/restaurant and small supermarket. There are mountain views all around and the ancient market town of Lodeve is only 6 km away. Many beautiful walks including a botanical mountain path are all close by and stunning scenery including the dramatic Cirque de Navacelle where you can bathe in rock pools of crystal clear water from the mountains is only a short drive away. Montpellier and the Mediterranean coast is only 45 minutes by car with golf courses and several good beaches and numerous seafood restaurants. The whole area is studded with sleepy villages set in lovely scenery.

Other Activities: pedalos on Lac de Salagou, canoeing on l’Herault and Tarn, wine tasting in local vineyard (1km) Horse riding. Cycling
