About Sarah and John Dixon

We are a young English family who have holidayed in Provence for years and liked it so much we bought a home here.

Sarah and John Dixon purchased this villa in 2012

Why Sarah and John Dixon chose Alpilles

The clear blue sky, stars at night, wonderful food and wine produced locally, the friendly people, and so many amenities within the town of St Remy, the amazing history of this area, and above all the climate and lifestyle provides lifetime memories every vacation. This is our family holiday home - we hope you love it as much as we do

What makes this villa unique

We love relaxing by the pool, sitting in the shade and reading a book. Wednesday market is a must - fresh produce for the week - we cook at home and enjoy with some local wine of course. In the afternoons we walk into town and enjoy the seasonal activities. We can walk from our home up through the Alpilles; there are so many routes and we admire the landscape as Cezanne and Van Gogh did. We visit the many nearby villages and dine out in so many excellant local eateries - on our return we sit back and relax in our beautiful home and enjoy some local digestifs!

Delightful Property in St. Remy

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely house that easily accommodated us -- three couples. The grounds are exquisite with shaded areas for dining outside (and a grill for grilling which was important to us), a pool, and a garden filled with lavender, rosemary, wild poppies and other delights. You can easily walk or drive into St. Remy, and we used it as a jumping off point to explore a great of Provence. It was wonderful to come back in the afternoons and jump into the pool! This was a good find.

A Dream Come True

  • 5 of 5

Last summer my husband and I were able to make a dream come true by renting this beautiful property for two weeks and inviting some of our family to join us. One of our granddaughters had researched a lot of properties in Provence and decided this one was the best for our family's needs. She was right. It had wonderful space for three families, lovely amenities, and a gorgeous pool and outdoor dining area. Unfortunately it was so hot that we did not eat outside as much as we would have liked, but that made the pool and the indoors air-conditioning even more welcoming. I will always remember sipping my morning coffee on the patio, smelling the lavender, and listening to the music of the cicadas. My husband and I had been to Provence previously so we were aware that being in St. Remy was an excellent location for exploring the area--and we easily made day trips to Les Baux, the Pont du Garde, Nimes, Arles, and even the perched villages of the Luberon. St Remy itself is a very appealing town and offers some major tourist attractions, namely Glanum, an amazing archaeological site, and St. Paul de Mausole, where Van Gogh spent one year as a patient and produced 143 paintings. Both were truly wonderful to visit.

On two separate occasions we hired a chef to prepare dinner at "our home" --a fun and fabulous experience. And we also enjoyed the restaurants that St. Remy offered. The owners of the property could not have been nicer or more helpful. In summary the two weeks at our Mas in St. Remy exceeded our expectations and were indeed a dream come true!

One week in Provence

  • 5 of 5

Our two plus families had a wonderful week in this beautiful home, which had plenty of space to stretch out in and two very picturesque eating areas outside. The pool was one of the nicest we've ever plunged into, mainly because the water was so welcoming and not too cold - possibly because there is no deep end so the sun's rays quickly heat the water. The fact that we were a five minute drive both to St Remy - a gorgeous little town full of boutique shops - and an intermarche really was a bonus. We had a relaxing week balanced between lounging by the pool and doing some more active stuff such as 'accrobranching' (i.e. Go Ape type stuff) and kayaking over in Fontaine de Vaucluse. Although we visited Avignon and Beaux, the week was actually a tad too hot for touristing but I for one was very happy to stay close to the pool. The house was kept wonderfully cool with the use of A.C. and the kitchen was fairly well stocked - some mixing bowls would be useful for those who like to cook. Although we ourselves found the house quite easily, we agree with previous reviews in that it would be great to have a sign or something out front for visitors. All in all, highly recommended and we will certainly consider visiting another year.

Beautiful Home!

  • 5 of 5

Our American and Israeli family came together in France to spend a wonderful week in the Provence in this beautiful home! The home was so spacious and it never felt like 9 of us were tripping all over each other. The bedrooms met the needs of both adults and children. The pool was a hit, providing us with a 'cool down' after our day trips to various villages. We never ate a meal indoors. There were 2 large tables outside that were perfect for our family to enjoy breakfasts or dinners. The electric security gate made us all feel very secure when we left the home and at night as well. The temperature in the home was quite comfortable as well. I would only comment that the A/C upstairs made 1 bedroom quite cold and another bedroom remained somewhat warm. The remaining 2 bedrooms were quite comfortable. This issue did not effect our enjoyment of the home. Also, finding the house the first few times was tricky, as the green post box was not large enough to catch our attention. Maybe the owners could consider leaving a more visible landmark? We fell in love with the Provence (2 visits in the past 12 months!) and we are hoping to stay in this home again, if we are able to return to such a beautiful area!!!!

Absolutely Outstanding

  • 5 of 5

Three couples just returned from spending a week in this home. We couldn't have been more pleased. We were met on arrival and given a full tour of the home, including how to operate all the appliances. The place was immaculate. The living and dining areas are huge and inviting, as well as comfortably furnished. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The outdoor area is right out of a homes magazine, with two different dining areas, one under a beautiful roofed pavilion with a gas barbeque, The pool proved very useful as it was a warm week, and the tranquil garden was very relaxing. There are plenty of lounges and outdoor towels. In spite of the warmth, the A/C in the house kept us comfortable.

The house is easy to find, has plenty of parking, and is within a mile of grocery stores and St, Remy. At night, it is extremely quiet allowing everyone to rest well.

We would go back here in a heartbeat. If you rent it you will love it.

Better than we could have imagined

  • 5 of 5

You will not be disappointed! The pictures are an accurate representation of this lovely home. The house is set back off the road so no traffic noise and it is shielded well from neighbors so you have privacy when dining outside or around the pool. The electric auto gate and locking side gate give you total privacy and security. The interior is spacious enough that everyone has their space and the kitchen is awesome, dining for 9 was no problem. Only 5 minutes outside of St. Remy and within an hour of many attractions throughout Provence. Would highly recommend this home for your vacation.
