A Tanglewood-lover's haven, this is a tiny but comfortable historic cottage set in the heart of Lenox. The professionally decorated house is within walking distance of Tanglewood and Shakespeare & Co., and of course all the galleries, shops, and restaurants for which Lenox is famous. Numerous hiking trails are close by (beautiful Kennedy Park is a short walk away), as are Laurel Lake and Stockbridge Bowl - both with public access for boaters, and sandy beaches for swimmers and sunbathers alike. Winter sports - downhill or cross-country skiing, snowboarding, skating, snowshoeing etc. - are within easy reach. All the attractions of the Berkshires, both North and South County, are just a short drive away.
The kitchen has maple cabinets, granite countertops and a beautiful cork floor. The bathroom (shower, no tub) is carefully designed for comfort and functionality. There is a small fenced and landscaped back yard to contain little people and well-behaved four-legged family members.

Cozy Cottage in an Ideal Location
I can't say enough nice things about Penny's cottage. It was clean, cozy and comfortable. Much more affordable than a lot of the hotels and inns we looked at. It's also a short walk to everything Lenox has to offer. We had such a great time that we are planning to visit every fall. Perfect for a couple and a furry friend. Thank you, Penny...
Thank you, thank you! It's always gratifying to hear that returning guests have enjoyed themselves again, and especially so when they want to keep coming back...
I'm so glad to be able to offer access to our little gem of a community in a way that doesn't "break the bank"!
wonderful stay, beautiful cottage
I had a wonderful stay at the cottage. Penny was a wonderful host - she was very responsive before and during my stay, and everything was just as she promised in the house. The cottage is really lovely and very cozy. It's perfect for an individual or a couple. I was there with my little dog for a week and we had a great time. The location is fantastic - it is right in the heart of downtown historic Lenox and is easy access to everything you would want to do or see in the Berkshires. I highly recommend this rental!
This was our second stay at this little hidden gem!
The location couldn't be better for Lenox...it is also very central for all of the Berkshires....
Penny is very prompt on any inquiries. The cottage is very clean, quiet and comfortable...
Looking forward to our 3rd stay soon!
Thanks again !!!
Cute location, but should have been cleaner
I liked the location of the house. Unfortunately they property was not thoroughly cleaned before I arrived. The floors needed to be swept...there were bits of dust and dirt and leaves everywhere. I found too many crumbs in the silverware drawers...that was pretty yucky. Also, the couch and chair were very worn and needed to be cleaned.
Oh dear, I'm upset to hear that the cleaning hasn't been up to its usual standard, and sincerely apologize.
I know it's sometimes hard for the cleaning crew to keep up when the house is "changing hands" frequently, but have notified them about the problems Gail mentioned. Apparently guests have also been arriving earlier than requested, so they have felt the need to scurry out of the way without devoting the time they really need to finish up the cleaning. (I mention this as a contributing factor, but not an excuse). The upholstery is a particular issue because it takes a few days to dry, but clearly it somehow needs to happen more often, which I will work on.
A wonderful little house that is literally in the heart of Lenox. We enjoyed our stay and using the cottage as a base of operations. A bagels and lox sandwich could be purchased less than a minute walk away. One hundred feet further on at Haven bakery and cafe were the best french fries I've ever had. Around the corner I could buy the NY Times, the Boston Globe, and the Berkshire Eagle as well restock the larder with milk and beer. For regular groceries needs, a short trip up route 7 will take you to a fantastic gourmet grocer called Guidos. A satisfying thing to do is to take an after dinner stroll and stop at Scoops for an ice cream cone. One word of caution, the local maps need to be updated as the Rockwell Museum is no longer located in the heart of Stockbridge. All in all a joyful stay made so much better by the convenience of the cottage, that truly is a "Small Oasis in the Heart of Lenox."
Thank you so much for taking the time to submit not only a generous, but also very informative, review. It sounds as though you thoroughly explored our sweet town and its environs, and am so glad you had a good time!
lovely home base in the center of Lenox
Penny's little house was the perfect place to call home for a month while I worked on a project in Lenox. It had everything I needed, was very comfortable, and perfectly located in the heart of Lenox. It was my second stay in the house and I am sure there will be another one in the future.
