My husband and I first visited Akumal in 1999 and fell in love with the area, the people and the natural beauty. It became a dream to own a condo in Akumal and for the next several years, we researched and saved until our dream finally came true!
Many friends and family members have visited over the years. They all agree that Akumal is very special. Just the perfect combination of tropical relaxation with services nearby and welcoming, warm people. It is so true, one visit to Akumal and you will want to return again and again!
Sherry Sullivan purchased this condo in 2003
The beaches and natural lagoons of the Riviera Maya are spectactularly beautiful, but Half Moon Bay in Akumal has the best of all worlds! A sandy white beach with incredible underwater life that can be viewed right from our terrace! A daily swim, float or snorkel in Half Moon Bay is a treat, and the awesome Yalku Lagoon is a short walk up the road. The sandy beach of Akumal Bay is a short walk in the southern direction.
Staying in Lol Ka'naab on Half Moon Bay is peaceful and quiet, away from the hubbub of Akumal Bay. You will be close to many delicious restaurants, shops featuring local handcrafts, small grocery stores and produce market. The snorkeling in Half Moon Bay is world class, teaming with sea life such as turtles, rays, and a multitude of fish! Rent snorkel equipment nearby and bring an underwater camera to capture the beauty, or just relax under the palapa and take a dip in the pool!
Sherry, we are really enjoying your condo. It is just perfect. We're already planning our next trip.
First time in Akumal, so beautiful! The apartment is wonderfully situated and Sherry provides you with lots of info to help you navigate. We took her advice re. hiring a taxi for the day to got to Tulum (amazing) and did that again to go to Chichen Itza (worth the effort of the trip, spectacular, and stop in Valladolid on your way back for lunch)--way cheaper than a guided tour and if you want a guide they have them at the entrance for about 30 USD for 2 hours. The apartment suited our needs quite well though it got a bit crowded at dinner (2 adults and 3 kids) as the indoor table is quite small and it was too windy in the evenings in March to eat on the balcony (where the larger table was), also the WiFi was a bit spotty--my husband had to work on some days and so he had to be strategic with where he set up his laptop. One suggestion--we cooked a lot and a few more pots would have been great. Wonderful vacation, we will definitely head back!
We love Akumal. It was great to be able to get in the ocean right from the condo. The condo worked out very well for our family of 5.
We've been to the Akumal-Tulum area for the past 15 years. We love the picturesque beach and chic vibe of Tulum, but it's been discovered ... so Akumal provides a great alternative. We've statyed at La Kanaab twice and it offers the comfort of a home at an affordable price. We picked up groceries at the Chedraui in Puerto Adventurous on our way down and cooked about half our meals for ourselves and indulged at La Buena Vida most happy hours and dinner every other night. We snorkeled Half-moon Bay on the calmer days and went on excursions when it was too windy ... including Yalku (like swimming in aquarium), Dos Ojos cenote (go to the back-eye) and Coba (rent a guide and bikes). Overall a relaxing week with lots of fun mixed in. La Kanaab is perfect for our needs.
The condo was excellent - had everything we needed. Owner sent great tips just before our trip. The condo is right on the beach in the middle of Half Moon Bay - snorkeling was off the hook. There is not a lot of room to play in the sand - building sand castles okay - but not volleyball, football, etc. and the beach entry is rocky so water shoes/fins recommended. The bay is for swimming and snorkeling, not playing in the surf - you will need to go to Akumal Bay to play on the beach/surf. The condo has a pool - small and only about 3.5 feet deep but my kids loved it. Variety of good food close by - Italian, seafood, baked goods, fried chicken and of course Mexican. The housekeeping service was great also - everyone very nice. The only suggestion I have would be to leave another set of beach towels if the maid notices that the set already in the room have been taken out with us. That way, we have a fresh set for the next day and the old ones we could leave for the maid. It wasn't hard to find the maid and ask for a new set so not a huge deal. Overall an awesome stay - highly recommend.
Stayed in this beautiful, beachfront/ocean view condo for nine glorious days in February. We were extremely pleased with the roominess of this property. Two couples. Two large air conditioned bedrooms, each with it's own bathroom, a nice living room space, and kitchen equipped with all our needs. Forefront of it all was the great balcony where we enjoyed spectacular sunrises, late afternoon cocktails and late evening relaxation and ocean breezes. We were fortunate to also see the full moon glisten on Half Moon Bay. Always the beautiful sounds of the waves and the magnificent view of the ever changing shades of my favorite color -turquesa. My happy place.
The condo building and surrounding grounds are well cared for by a very kind, patient and accommodating staff. Our place was always cleaned well, fresh flowers on the kitchen counter and we appreciated our maid Patricia providing us with clean, dry, beach towels for our excursions.
Our caretaker, Elio was very nice, and flexible. We really appreciated him accommodating us on both our early arrival check in, and our late departure, as we tried to maximize our last hours on the beach.
Loved the location of this condo, short walk to two restaurants on the beach, and not much further to either Yal ku Lagoon or Akumal Beach, both of which has some incredible snorkeling and of course Akumal Beach with the sea turtles.
We also enjoyed snorkeling in Half Moon Bay, seeing beautiful coral, sea fans, and having the surprising experience of being greeted by a permit fish on our way into shore, on multiple occasions. He seems to be a resident, as a few others we talked to have met him too!
While the beachfront on Half Moon Bay is rocky, it is manageable with water shoes. Very shallow and nice to swim or snorkel in.
We we will definitely be back here some day!
We enjoyed our stay at LOl Ka'naab. The location is great, a short walk to great restaurants. The view of the ocean is spectacular, the balcony is literally on the beach. Akumal is a very quiet location, great for families. The beds are comfy and we loved the shower. The maids were nice and reliable. Everything in the condo is as pictured, and everything is in working order. The owner was very helpful with any questions we had, and emailed helpful tips regarding the area that was very useful.
The only thing which we were somewhat disappointed in was swimming in the ocean was difficult due to the rocks in the water. Ocean shoes are a must. The beach is great.
Akumal offers wonderful scuba diving and lessons with three dive shops within walking distance.
