La Casa Mango is a newly remodeled, repainted and refurbished home on the island of Culebra, Puerto Rico. The house has a new kitchen and full bathroom. I am a veterinarian from Iowa and I can rent to you any time of the year. The kitchen, bathroom, floors and walls are all re-tiled and repainted. Please come down to do as little or as much as your heart desires.
The island of Culebra has been featured in Caribbean Travel and Life ( February 2006), Islands Magazine (May 2006) on turtle watching and Conde Nast (May 2006). Culebra was the lead feature in Conde Nast of 10 smaller islands to get away from it all. I can assure you that the quiet, serenity and friendliness of the old Caribbean is manifested by Culebra. Traveler Magazine rated Flamenco Beach one of the top 3 beaches in the world ranked with Acapulco in Mexico and Bondi Beach in Australia. The island has another 10 beaches where you may be the only ones to enjoy their beauty. A trip to Culebrita to visit Tortuga Beach is a must. Tortuga can only be described as the deserted beach you see in the Corona beer ads. Perfection of sand, sea and sky.
On Culebra you make your own fun. Visitors can do as much or as little as they desire. Taxis or publicos can take you to the the beautiful beaches or to downtown Dewey for an evening of dinner and meeting the local people and visitors for a small fare of $2 per person. Everyone is friendly and enjoys a good time in a safe environment! The key to Casa Mango is obtained from Juan Rios the caretaker at 787 556 6819.All of the taxis know where Casa Mango is located and will take you there from the ferry or airport for a small fee of $3.00.
Monthly we have a licensed exterminator come in and set insect and rodent traps. Casa Mango is as free of vermin as it is possible in the tropics. Properties w/o monthly extermination services WILL be infested with vermin. I do not believe vermin belong in a property you are renting on vacation any more than you would tolerate vermin at home.
I am a veterinarian in Indianola, Iowa and I have always taken my vacations where there is sand be it Cancun, Jamacia, Puerto Rico or Egypt.
David Brewbaker DVM (owner) 515 490 7725 purchased this house in 2003
Culebra is unique in that the Culebrese and the Gringos are all amigos. A safe enviroment in walking distance to the bars and resturants in Dewey the only town. Culebra has over 10 white sand beaches where you may be alone with your favorite people or person.
Casa Mango is a 3 bedroom house with a large living room, kitchen and a wrap around balcony. We can accomodate up to 12 people comfortably with 5 queen sized beds and 2 queen sized sofa couches. I have a cafeteria table and 12 chairs to throw a party with my amigos. We eat sushi, deep sea fish we catch and drink all of the beer and rum. No clean up. During the day you can snorkel, swim, scuba dive, kayak, bike, deep sea fish or lie in a hammock and do nothing at all and be a true beach bum.
We have four adolescents and their friends. Also we have two dogs that are always part of our vacations. The house was perfect, we don't need to worry about luxury. It's a beach house. All of them were comfortable. Three rooms with a/c, two of them with satellite TV and wifi. Kitchen with all you will need and a BBQ. Perfect location near markets, restaurant, All you will need to have access to the rest of the island is to rent a golf car or a jeep, but you can also use public transport. All the house was nice and clean
Upon arrival, according to the pictures we saw, we though hat this was not the property that we rented. We are a group of over 15 people and we visit the island of Culebra every year. We rented both floors of the house believing it would be a great experience and sadly it wasn't. The house was a bit expensive, but the accommodations were great. The house is big and comfortable. But the house keepers almost slept with us, they would walk inside the house without asking permission. It was extremely uncomfortable. We dealed with that, but just when we thought things couldn't get worse, one of the house keepers pointed at us WITH A GUN. He pointed at the both men and the woman of our group because we were "making too much noise" which is somethimg inevitable when you have such a big group. It was something completely out of place because nobody in our group had guns. The Day we were supposed check out (11am) the lady housekeeper was knocking at the door at 8am to kick us out. This was very rude of her. Overall we felt no privacy, at all. Also since the first day we found cockroaches at the house. I hope you guys fix these things for future events, otherwise you will continue to lose clients.
Make sure you buy travel insurance , I prepaid for 8 days to rent the entire upstairs and down stairs. The house was filthy , I stayed 3 days and went ahead and found another house to rent from a local business that does vacation rentals in the island . Coming from the US this wasn’t the type of Vacation house I wanted to spend my vacation in and have my entire family in that filthiness . When I contacted the owner he told me he would not refund me any of my money back . Wish I would of bought insurance so my money didn’t go down the drain. The house isn’t really located in the nice part of the island . Not to mention the run down car in front of your door with a broken window. These place only wash the sheets and mop the floors when guest leave ( in other words the bathroom and everything else ARE NOT whipped down). You can only imagine the dirtiness of this place. Really it doesn’t even deserve 1 star but you have to rate it. I do have to say that there was enough sheets and they were clean .
To be fair, I want to first say how many clean sheets and towels were available. That being said...since when does a 5 star rating given to a house with no hot water?? The accommodations are sparse at best but worst of all is how dirty the floor was. I went not expecting much, and got a lot less.
House was roomy and very clean, close to town and supermarket. Very quiet neighborhood. Close to the best beach in the world, Flamenco.
My friend and another couple stayed for the weekend and really enjoyed our vacation in Casa Mango. We had rented the down 2 bedroom but Dr. Brewbaker moved us to the up 3 bedroom since it was open. The down is cottage like with a large patio to sit outside for breakfast or to BBQ in the evening. The up 3 bedroom is very roomy and comfortable for up to 10-12 people. Justin lives in the casita behind Casa Mango and he will give you the key and answer questions about Culebra. The house was all we could ask for and we will stay at Casa Mango the next time we visit Culebra.
The house is totally renovated, repainted, re-tiled and refurbished. Friends and/or family can drive or taxi to numerous beaches for swimming, snorkeling, sunning or doing nothing at all. Culebra is unique in that a large cruise ship cannot dock there and jet planes cannot land at the small airport. The coral and fish are fabulous and just off shore. Fishing from the shore, dock or deep water fishing are also available. The house is wired for internet access via an antenna and a router. The town of Dewey is a short walk away. The restaurants in Dewey and around the island serve a variety of seafood and other Caribbean treats
A payment of $500 via credit card or check is required to reserve Casa Mango that will be applied to the rental cost. The remainder of the rental is due 30 days before arrival.
* Approximate monthly rate. Actual rate will depend on the days of the month you stay.
