About Brian or Dawn Steeland

My wife Dawn and I started coming to Grand Cayman in 2000 to SCUBA dive with our 2 children. We fell in love with the gentle people, perfect climate, and beautiful unspoiled sea. We finally purchased a piece of this paradise in 2010. It is a dream come true. Our cottage is one of 16 that were built as a dive resort in the 1960s on what was the very remote north shore. It has miraculously survived all the developers and is continuously preserved and improved by the very passionate individual owners. There is nothing like it left on Grand Cayman. We love to share it with our guests and receive lots of very positive reviews. We are blessed to have a local Caymanian couple, Miss Barbara and her husband Linsford care for our cottage and guests. They are like family to us! Contact us anytime. We love to discuss this very special place with anyone interested!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Mr. Brian,

I wanted to find just the right words to describe the essence of your charming cottage.

You were an absolute joy to work with in coordinating the dates for my trip. You made everything easy and seemless.

It is evident that you and your wife place a lot of pride and love in the Sea Lodge with all the upgrades and decorative touches throughout the cottage. It is truly a labor of love and appreciation for the Cayman's culture. Mr. Linsford speaks very highly of you as well. He asked if I knew you and I told him that I felt like I did (although) we have never met in person -- only by email.

My absolute favorite part of the house is the seaside lanai- I spent every waking moment on the lanai enjoying the landscape. I love how all the doors open up to the lanai and expands the cottage space two fold, and I loved the welcoming white rocking chairs on the courtyard side-- very nice touch.

During this trip, I visited the Botanical Gardens ( quite a treat) and the Crystal Caves (newest attraction on the northside), in addition to Stingray City. The caves are something everyone must see and explore. The guided tour is very well done. There are currently three caves open and one more to come online this summer. You may want to add the Crystal Caves to your "Things To Do List".

Between Kirk's Corner and Over the Edge I was well nourished with great local foods. I was able to meet one of the cooks at Kirk's Corner- Ms. Bloosom.

The entire week was nourishment for the soul, spirit, mind and body.

Thanks again for your kindness!

Awesome Time Here!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place! I did not want to leave even after 16 days! Perfect location and felt like home, very clean and well taken care of. We rented a car and drove to 7 mile beach just to check it out, it was horrible way to many people and traffic, we could not wait to get back to our cozy little place on the north side. I'm so glad I picked this side of the island and this place. Great snorkeling right in your backyard and plenty of restaurants/bars near by. We had the 7 course dinner at Kaibo Yacht Club for my birthday and it was amazing. Swam with the stingrays which was crazy cool. A lot of activities to do between Kaibo and Rum Point in booking them.

So if your looking for a great place in Cayman, this is it!!!

Thanks Dawn and Brian!!!

Best Vacation Ever!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Sea Lodge! Great location away from the craziness of 7 mile. Quiet, clean, and comfortable. Communication with Brian was great; he was super helpful, and made sure we had everything we needed.

The Sea Lodge was perfect. Good working kitchen, clean bathroom with excellent shower (water pressure was great), and comfortable bed. The breeze coming through the lodge kept everything comfortable, and we were never hot.

It was a little windy for our stay, and a couple of days it was too windy to comfortable hang out on the beach steps away from the lodge, but we went .5 mile up the road to Rum Point and it was perfect there.

We rented a car and explored the entire island. If you are into snorkeling then you definitely want to come here and check out the spots. It was absolutely amazing. Spotts Beach, Cemetery Beach West End, and Eden's Rock were our favorite for snorkeling. The sea turtles at Spotts are a must!

Our favorite restaurants were Over The Edge, which was great for a seafood dinner. Kurt's Corner was also excellent, and I wish we would have went there earlier in the trip as I would have eaten there a few times. We went to Vivine's on East End because reviews were so great, but we weren't very impressed with the food, but that could have been a fluke.

We loved this cottage, and Grand Cayman in general. We will definitely be back, and I would 100% stay here again!

Lovely home, amazing snorkeling!

  • 5 of 5

Sea Lodge #14 was a beautiful, quiet oasis for our 14th wedding anniversary! The owners and caretakers on-island do a wonderful job taking meticulous care of the property and keeping it very clean and well maintained. We loved the view from the lanai as well as from the bedroom - what could be better than seeing and hearing the ocean from bed?! We were quite happy with the amenities and had everything we needed to prepare meals, to grill, and really to make and serve any manner of food and drink we could want. We appreciated the plastic water bottles and tumblers to bring down to the beach. The (king!) bed was extremely comfortable, something that we often worry about when staying somewhere for an entire week. An uncomfortable bed can really ruin a vacation. We appreciated the many towels that were on hand, as well as the washer and dryer. I can't think of a single thing that did not meet or exceed our expectations at the Sea Lodge. We were seeking a quiet week away from the crowds and cruise ships, with excellent snorkeling nearby and we got everything we hoped for. The snorkeling right out front of the sea lodge was stunning. Brian provided instructions for where to go (swim out to the breakers, and let the waves carry you toward Rum Point - you'll be in awe!). We appreciated that there was a snorkel mask and fins available in the closet when one of ours failed us. We wouldn't have needed to leave the sea lodges for the entire week but we did venture out to eat at some of the rum point restaurants. Don't miss the Kaibo Beach Club for a really lovely, laid-back and beachy vibe and the Czech Inn Grill (about 20 minutes down the road) - they serve the best ceviche on the planet, I'm quite sure. Thank you Brian for all the great advice, and for the wonderful stay at your amazing property. We hope to be back as soon as we can manage another week away from our kids!

Lovely decor, well stocked with necessities, clean, close to the beach.

  • 4 of 5

Our little unit was very attractively decorated and quite inviting. We lacked no amenities at all. Miss Barbara was kind and very helpful when we had a difficulty with the safe. All of our Sea Lodge neighbors were lovely and interesting. We felt extraordinarily safe and looked after. The weather was odd for this time of year, quite windy and somewhat cool. Air conditioning might have helped with the high humidity at night which left the bed sheets feeling damp.

Overall, the Sea Lodges unit and the folks who run it we’re a total pleasure. We would not hesitate to vacation here again.

Perfect secluded and peaceful location for a relaxing visit

  • 5 of 5

The listing is exactly as advertised. Having split our trip between Seven Mile beach and the North side, we really loved the peaceful and quiter nature of this area. Everything you need for snorkeling is provided and a beautiful reef is steps from your door. We thoroughly enjoyed time on a nearly private beach, snorkeling, making lunch and repeating. It's very close to starfish point which was even better with the snorkeling gear provided. Do make sure you go early to beat the tours as it does get crowded by 10-1030. There are limited dining options and they do encourage reservations. We ate at Over the Edge, Kaibo, and Rum point which were all fantastic. The beach seating at Kaibo was perfect in the evening and very low key. The botanical gardens are also close by and a great option out of the water. Highly recommend this home and would love to visit again!
