About Brian or Dawn Steeland

My wife Dawn and I started coming to Grand Cayman in 2000 to SCUBA dive with our 2 children. We fell in love with the gentle people, perfect climate, and beautiful unspoiled sea. We finally purchased a piece of this paradise in 2010. It is a dream come true. Our cottage is one of 16 that were built as a dive resort in the 1960s on what was the very remote north shore. It has miraculously survived all the developers and is continuously preserved and improved by the very passionate individual owners. There is nothing like it left on Grand Cayman. We love to share it with our guests and receive lots of very positive reviews. We are blessed to have a local Caymanian couple, Miss Barbara and her husband Linsford care for our cottage and guests. They are like family to us! Contact us anytime. We love to discuss this very special place with anyone interested!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Mr. Brian,

I wanted to find just the right words to describe the essence of your charming cottage.

You were an absolute joy to work with in coordinating the dates for my trip. You made everything easy and seemless.

It is evident that you and your wife place a lot of pride and love in the Sea Lodge with all the upgrades and decorative touches throughout the cottage. It is truly a labor of love and appreciation for the Cayman's culture. Mr. Linsford speaks very highly of you as well. He asked if I knew you and I told him that I felt like I did (although) we have never met in person -- only by email.

My absolute favorite part of the house is the seaside lanai- I spent every waking moment on the lanai enjoying the landscape. I love how all the doors open up to the lanai and expands the cottage space two fold, and I loved the welcoming white rocking chairs on the courtyard side-- very nice touch.

During this trip, I visited the Botanical Gardens ( quite a treat) and the Crystal Caves (newest attraction on the northside), in addition to Stingray City. The caves are something everyone must see and explore. The guided tour is very well done. There are currently three caves open and one more to come online this summer. You may want to add the Crystal Caves to your "Things To Do List".

Between Kirk's Corner and Over the Edge I was well nourished with great local foods. I was able to meet one of the cooks at Kirk's Corner- Ms. Bloosom.

The entire week was nourishment for the soul, spirit, mind and body.

Thanks again for your kindness!

Relaxed and quiet location, well-kept property

My wife and I had a great stay at the Sea Lodges. There is amazing snorkeling just offshore in front of the property, and plenty of fun activities at Rum Point. The bioluminescence kayak tour is a must, as is stingray city. The beach is great for stargazing as well. The owners are friendly and prompt with communication. Can't go wait to return!

Perfect again!!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned home to Michigan from our fourth stay at Brian & Dawn's wonderful sea lodge. It has become our absolute favorite respite from the cold and place in the sun to recharge and reconnect. The environment never ceases to amaze; the blue/green Caribbean sea, swishing palms, star-filled nights and warm breezes. The lodge is welcoming, beautifully decorated, comfortable, clean and meticulously maintained. The brand new bathroom is open and fresh. We typically eat in as the views from the lanai are unparalleled and the well-equipped kitchen and charcoal grill are all we need. If you are looking for a change of scenery several excellent restaurants are a short drive. The snorkeling right out in front is breathtaking. So many magnificent sea creatures, colorful flora and fauna to see. Sure missed the sunrise and sound of the sea this morning. Can't wait to go back. Gratitude to Brian & Dawn for all the timely correspondence and for sharing your piece of heaven. XX

Very relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed relaxing at our rented cottage by the sea. We aren't into nightlife or crowds and this is the perfect place to get away from it all. Unfortunately, the winds blew strong all week long, but it didn't keep us from enjoying the friendliest island in the Caribbean!

Everything as described. Beautiful location. Loved listening to the waves at night and enjoyed the airy feel and views. Very relaxing and peaceful. Great snorkelling and quiet roads for morning runs. Would go back without hesitation.

Never want to leave!

We arrived to the Sea Lodges and found everything ready for our stay. The home had everything that we needed including beach towels and snorkel gear (even though we brought our own). We loved opening the doors and feeling the ocean breeze throughout the cottage. There are wonderful lounge chairs outside the patio to watch the sunrise and chairs and tiki umbrellas for a relaxing beach experience. The grounds are kept clean and well manicured. Just outside is a 'marine park' with tropical fish, rays, and turtles.

Brian was terrific and provided prompt replies to all of my questions. We loved the decorations and furniture. The bedding was soft and relaxing.

During our visit, we rented a car through Priceline and visited snorkel sites all over the island. We took Dexter's Fantasia tour to swim with the Stingrays. It was the best value on the beach. Dexter's crew gave us a fun experience. We ate at Rum Point, Kaibo and Over the Edge. I highly recommend stopping at the grocery store in Bodden Town before heading north as there isn't a grocery store on the North Shore and grocery stores are closed on Sundays. There is a nice charcoal grill at the lodge for some yummy bbq cooking.

The Sea Lodges and #14 are a very special little spot and we can't wait to come back!

As beautiful as the photos!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from Grand Cayman, celebrating my 60th birthday. What a gorgeous place to stay. You can see that the owners take pride in their place and add all the touches that make it convenient and inviting. The place was very clean and newly renovated which made it feel comfortable and homey. Everything is there that you need. The beach was totally ours and we enjoyed just sitting in the chairs on the beach, something we haven't been able to do on other trips. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and tried to stay away from the busyness of Georgetown as much as possible. Rum Point and Kaibo Beach are very close if you want entertainment, water sports, or great food and drink. There is a large assortment of books and movies to please any person. We miss the sound of the waves already. It is way too quiet here at home! There is nothing better than the tropical breezes coming in at night. The Crystal Caves just opened 6 miles down the road and was a nice way to spend a couple hours. My husband enjoying running on the quiet roads and seeing all the beautiful houses and beaches. Highly recommended. Thanks Brian and Dawn for letting us enjoy your gorgeous place. It helped soothe the soul and refresh the body.
