About Brian or Dawn Steeland

My wife Dawn and I started coming to Grand Cayman in 2000 to SCUBA dive with our 2 children. We fell in love with the gentle people, perfect climate, and beautiful unspoiled sea. We finally purchased a piece of this paradise in 2010. It is a dream come true. Our cottage is one of 16 that were built as a dive resort in the 1960s on what was the very remote north shore. It has miraculously survived all the developers and is continuously preserved and improved by the very passionate individual owners. There is nothing like it left on Grand Cayman. We love to share it with our guests and receive lots of very positive reviews. We are blessed to have a local Caymanian couple, Miss Barbara and her husband Linsford care for our cottage and guests. They are like family to us! Contact us anytime. We love to discuss this very special place with anyone interested!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Mr. Brian,

I wanted to find just the right words to describe the essence of your charming cottage.

You were an absolute joy to work with in coordinating the dates for my trip. You made everything easy and seemless.

It is evident that you and your wife place a lot of pride and love in the Sea Lodge with all the upgrades and decorative touches throughout the cottage. It is truly a labor of love and appreciation for the Cayman's culture. Mr. Linsford speaks very highly of you as well. He asked if I knew you and I told him that I felt like I did (although) we have never met in person -- only by email.

My absolute favorite part of the house is the seaside lanai- I spent every waking moment on the lanai enjoying the landscape. I love how all the doors open up to the lanai and expands the cottage space two fold, and I loved the welcoming white rocking chairs on the courtyard side-- very nice touch.

During this trip, I visited the Botanical Gardens ( quite a treat) and the Crystal Caves (newest attraction on the northside), in addition to Stingray City. The caves are something everyone must see and explore. The guided tour is very well done. There are currently three caves open and one more to come online this summer. You may want to add the Crystal Caves to your "Things To Do List".

Between Kirk's Corner and Over the Edge I was well nourished with great local foods. I was able to meet one of the cooks at Kirk's Corner- Ms. Bloosom.

The entire week was nourishment for the soul, spirit, mind and body.

Thanks again for your kindness!

Beautiful scenic Kayman Kai

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at Sea Lodges. It was very relaxing and just a great place to unwind. The unit was well stocked with kitchen essentials so feeling at home was easy. There was comfortable furniture and several fans to keep the unit cool.... Screened in porches front and back made enjoying the outdoor areas mosquito free... When we were here, the beach was never very crowded with there being no more than 5 or 6 other people out there with us . The beach was clean and had very soft sand to walk on... I would recommend wearing water shoes as there is some coral and sea grass near the shore to walk through. The neighborhood is quiet with a laid back attitude so if you are looking for a relaxing get away, this is the place for you.

Beautiful, quiet and peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Sea Lodges before and never been dissatisfied. It is truly a place to find serenity and reconnect with each other. Sea Lodge #14 has everything you could need to enjoy your time on the island from comfortable furnishings to a well appointed kitchen. This complex is perfect for rest and relaxation yet close enough to restaurants, outdoor adventure options and nightlife. Though we had some frustrating complications with our air travel, the owners were easily accessible and very helpful. We will surely be back!

Basic Paradise

  • 4 of 5

Sealodge 14 has a great location for snorkeling and getting away from it all. We were there when only 3 other units were occupied. Most often we were the only ones on the beach. The unit was well equiped and in good condition. With the flow through breeze, we hardly missed having ac. It was the best snorkling on the island but the waves are exhausting so I don't reccomend small children. You can walk down the beach when the tide cooperates to Rum Point which is more children friendly beach. The water is very rocky versus 7 mile smooth sand. Driving on this side is much easier without the round-a-bout and places are closer than it appears on the map. As a couple we would definitely return but not with small grandchildren.

Owner's Response: Donna, Thanks so much for taking the time to send the kind review. It was great having you as guests. The Sea Lodges and the north shore are definitely not like 7-Mile Beach, thankfully. The beach does have more ironshore, but few people and about a third of the price. It's more natural and unspoiled and peaceful. It's rare to have waves inside the reef and often it's like a swimming pool. However, when the wind is blowing hard, there are waves. We do market our beach house as appropriate for couples. We encourage all our potential guests to read all our reviews and the website so they can make an informed decision. Also, I can be contacted anytime to answer any questions. Again Donna, thanks for choosing our little piece of paradise for your vacation! Warm regards, Brian.

Relaxed and quiet location, well-kept property

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a great stay at the Sea Lodges. There is amazing snorkeling just offshore in front of the property, and plenty of fun activities at Rum Point. The bioluminescence kayak tour is a must, as is stingray city. The beach is great for stargazing as well. The owners are friendly and prompt with communication. Can't go wait to return!

Perfect again!!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned home to Michigan from our fourth stay at Brian & Dawn's wonderful sea lodge. It has become our absolute favorite respite from the cold and place in the sun to recharge and reconnect. The environment never ceases to amaze; the blue/green Caribbean sea, swishing palms, star-filled nights and warm breezes. The lodge is welcoming, beautifully decorated, comfortable, clean and meticulously maintained. The brand new bathroom is open and fresh. We typically eat in as the views from the lanai are unparalleled and the well-equipped kitchen and charcoal grill are all we need. If you are looking for a change of scenery several excellent restaurants are a short drive. The snorkeling right out in front is breathtaking. So many magnificent sea creatures, colorful flora and fauna to see. Sure missed the sunrise and sound of the sea this morning. Can't wait to go back. Gratitude to Brian & Dawn for all the timely correspondence and for sharing your piece of heaven. XX
