Gorgeous 3 Bedroom Holiday Home - Light, Spacious, with Terrace & Views!

Marigold House is enchanting - a spacious, light and beautifully furnished 3 bedroom property in the traditional Dartmouth style, with open plan living spaces and glass bifold doors leading out onto a decked terrace, offering superb views of the pastel coloured cottages lining the Devon hills beyond.

Marigold House enjoys an amazing location in the very heart of Dartmouth, yet is beautifully tranquil, just a couple of minutes walk along quaint cobbled streets to the bustling market square, numerous cafes, deli's, art galleries, shops and restaurants as well as Dartmouth's famous waterfront. Gorgeous sandy beaches are close to hand, including the renowned blue flag beach at Blackpool sands and it's wonderful Venus Cafe.

This lovely, spacious and well equipped Edwardian home enjoys a prime spot in the old winding alleys of Dartmouth, with stunning Southerly views of the pastel coloured cottages beyond. Being at the heart of this historic town means a perfectly location, well away from roads and traffic. A perfectly secluded spot.

Marigold House is beautifully decorated. On opening the front door you will find an attractive galleried entrance hall leading on to the master super-king bedroom and family bathroom. Two further bedrooms are situated on the first floor above. One is a double bedroom and the other is a twin bedded room with a nautical theme, with handy en-suite wc and sink.

The modern open plan living and kitchen dining room on the lower ground floor lead onto a stunning decked terrace with a Southern aspect and gorgeous views of the rolling hills and houses of Dartmouth - You'll find wooden dining tables and chairs set up here, the perfect spot for enjoying a glass of chilled wine or some al fresco dining! You'll find the sun here for most of the day.

A pretty walled patio garden is accessed from steps leading down from the terrace or the basement State of the Art TV/Home cinema room down in basement room , which boasts a 46inch Smart TV with surround sound/DVD/Blu ray, a comfortable sofa and bean bags for film and TV fun, as well as an en-suite wc, sink and utility room. The patio garden is bordered with flowering shrubs and offers the perfect place to set up the barbie for the evening, or for the kids to let off some steam.

The accommodation is ideally suited to extended family groups, one or two families with children or relatives, or perhaps two or three couples taking a break together.

A delightful retreat for couples and family groups alike.

Flexible accommodation available on request for larger groups - please enquire.

A seasonal parking pass is available on request for parking convenience.

If you're looking for somewhere truly special to stay - you've found it!

About Lisa Dancy

We are a busy, happy family of five, Ludovic, myself, and our three daughters all enjoy sailing, cycling, tennis and skiing. We love to spend time by the sea, and South Devon, with it's spectacular coastline and aquamarine waters, is amazing - Dartmouth, to our minds, offers the very best of the South Hams - Sun, sparkling blue seas, shops, restaurants, sandy beaches and sailing, all in a vibrant little town in the most beautiful spot imaginable!

Lisa Dancy purchased this house in 2013

Why Lisa Dancy chose Dartmouth

Marigold House is a very special property, being one of the few really light and sunny holiday homes situated right in the heart of Dartmouth Town, yet in an utterly peaceful spot.

This unique holiday home offers all you could ever want - contemporary space, light, calm, tranquillity, gardens and a decked terrace, all within the walls of a stunning Edwardian home.

Marigold House was previously owned by a local artist, who loved to draw and paint in the light filled upper rooms of the house.

What makes this house unique

We looked at hundreds of properties before settling on Marigold house, and couldn't be happier. It took a lot of searching to find such a spacious and sunny period property right in the heart of Dartmouth, yet offering such complete and utter tranquillity (no traffic passes by this house). We also love the way that the different floor levels mean that everyone in the family can enjoy great company and congregate together on the terrace, living area or cinema rooms, but can also find the space to retreat and enjoy a little privacy whenever the need strikes. The only sounds you're likely to hear are the cries of seagulls in morning flight.

Traditional seaside cottage. Very well equipped.

Visiting Dartmouth for my son's Passing Out Parade at BRNC from Brunei we wanted a home from home. My parents were with us too. Lisa was very responsive to any questions I had and couldn't have been more helpful.

Dartmouth is truly beautiful 😊?

Perfect property for a Dartmouth stay.

  • 5 of 5

Seven of us had a great half term break (four adults, one teenager and two under 10s) in this cottage. The basement snug was ideal on the one wet day for video watching and we even managed to use the outside deck in February. Perfect location with the quiet road outside ideal for the young children to run back from town with no traffic to worry about. Facilities are a high standard and all well maintained. Son-in-law could leave his laptop on the top level landing table just to keep his business ticking over. Reading other reviews, I would say no to a TV in the main family room - a holiday needs quality family time. If the weather is poor, it is a treat for children (and adults) to curl up in the basement TV room with no other distractions and others can have a quiet read above. We shall be looking to book again next February half term as Dartmouth is a great location for all ages - steam engines, ferries, castles, beaches - and where nicer to meet for a pasty than the promenade (and don't mention the Salcombe Ice Cream Parlour).

A modern home in a great location

  • 4 of 5

Very impressed with Marigold House, had a modern kitchen and bathroom. No TV in the living room/Kitchen which was a shame. Location ace and on a quiet street yet minutes away from centre.

Owner's Response: Thanks Nadia - glad you enjoyed your stay. We have the large TV, as you know, on lower ground floor and will now think about adding a second TV in the kitchen/living area.

Great central location yet nice and quiet

  • 5 of 5

Great property for a family. The tv room was a real hit with the kids. Very well equipped kitchen, smart bathroom and comfy beds. Balcony was a lovely sun trap from morning until late afternoon. I recommend using the parking permit. Mayors avenue carpark is a very short stroll from Marigold house. Lots of lovely shops, cafes, restaurants and coastal walks on your doorstep and the gorgeous Blackpool sands a 20 min bus ride away, so no need to take the car.

Great location close to the town centre!

  • 4 of 5

Great location close to the town centre. The house was clean and tidy with plenty of room for three teenage children and a dog. The children enjoyed the downstairs TV room.

Dartmouth is very dog friendly with dogs being allowed in many of the shops and pubs. Whilst the house does not have its own parking space, free parking was available in the nearby Market Square. The parking permit was useful for Market Days.

Dartmouth is the Jewel of the South Hams, with ancient winding streets, rows of pastel coloured houses, a selection of fine art galleries and boutique shops, local markets, specialist delicatessens and an array of excellent restaurants.

Marigold House, an Edwardian semi-detached property, offers wonderful views of the picturesque houses lining the rolling hills at the mouth of the river Dart. At the nearby waterfront you will find local fish & chips and crab sandwiches - an absolute must, or perhaps try one of the fresh seafood restaurants offering varied gastronomic delights. Dartmouth is a favoured holiday spot for families, couples and groups of friends alike. This small naval port is home to the Britannia Royal Naval College, the centre of Royal Naval officer training, and has played a vital role in the UKs long nautical history. Bayards Cove is the town’s most ancient and picturesque wharf with a beautiful cobbled quayside and Tudor artillery fort, which guards Dartmouth's inner harbour built in the early 16th century by the townspeople to protect their town quay.

The sea and the sand offer all types of water sports and activities, with many cruise ships visiting the beautiful port throughout the year. During the summer months the embankment of the River Dart is absolutely bustling. Children catch crabs, water taxis ferry to and from Kingswear, and private boats and larger vessels provide wonderful river cruises and trips upstream towards Totnes. There is also the lovely and familiar sound of the old steam train making its summer journey from Kingswear to Paignton and the English Riviera.

The Dart Estuary lies within a South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and within the South Devon Heritage Coast. Just a short drive from Dartmouth is the award winning Blue Flag shingle beach of Blackpool Sands. Set in a sheltered bay and fringed by pines, this is said to be one of the area's most beautiful natural treasures, with turquoise blue seas lapping at the long stretches of sand. The South West Coast Path offers stunning scenery on short or long hikes, and you can head East towards Brixham or West towards Slapton Sands and Start Bay.

The modern Flavel theatre in town, just a few steps from Marigold House, offers theatre and cinema for adults and children alike the whole year through, and The National Trust properties of Coleton Fishacre and Greenway, the stunning holiday home of the much-loved author Agatha Christie, are both close by. Just a few steps along the coast are yet more beautiful Devon villages, including Totnes and Dittisham, with the historic market town of Kingsbridge just 13 miles west of Dartmouth, and the beautiful beaches of Salcombe well worth a day trip at around half an hour away. You can't help but love the place.

Just at the end of the road you will find our local artist Helena Clews, who runs an art shop and art classes for juniors of all ages as well as hosting fabulous holiday workshops and children’s art parties;

Wildlife Trips and Diving –

Monty Hall the wildlife presenter has a Dartmouth shop offering a fabulous range of great escapes including foraging, shore walks, boat and diving trips.

You will find plenty of adventure parks, including the wonderful Pennywell Farm, a multi award winning Farm activity park'

The South Hams are the perfect location for longer holidays and for year round short breaks, with the wonderful mild climate of the Southernmost tip of Devon helping to ensure the very best of sunny days - the South Hams name deriving from the old English Saxon word 'Hamme' meaning 'sheltered place.'

Come and try the great restaurants, Blue Flag beaches, delicious local ice cream, crabbing, sailing, stunning views, excellent shopping and art galleries, Devon cream teas, coastal walking, and of course the famous Dartmouth Regatta...

Each year the Dartmouth calendar is choc a bloc with sea and land based events and this special town festival is the absolute pinnacle of the fun. Since 1834, the Dartmouth Royal Regatta has been the highlight of the year, and the whole town gets swept up in the atmosphere of this wonderful event. Visitors get to enjoy a host of treats, from sailing to market displays to marvelling at the acrobatics of the Red Arrows and the most astounding firework displays in these last special days of August.
