About the property

3 Bedroom House, Spacious, Sunny & Superb Decked Terrace with Views

Marigold House is an enchanting property - a spacious, bright and stylish 3 bedroom period property in the traditional Dartmouth style, yet with contemporary open plan living spaces and glass bifold doors leading out onto a large decked terrace with superb views of the pastel coloured cottages lining the Devon hills beyond.

Marigold House is right in the heart of Dartmouth, yet boasts a beautifully tranquil location, just a couple of minutes walk down quaint cobbled streets to the bustling market square, numerous cafes, deli's, art galleries, shops and restaurants as well as Dartmouth's famous bustling waterfront. Many beautiful beaches are so close to hand, including the blue flag beach at Blackpool sands, just around the corner.

This lovely Edwardian house enjoys a prime spot in the winding alleys of Dartmouth, South facing and with stunning views of the pastel coloured cottages beyond, yet right by the heart of the town, it is perfectly handy for everything you could ever want, yet so very peaceful. Tucked into a narrow historic lane, you're central, yet well away from roads and traffic. A perfectly tranquil and secluded spot - You really couldn't ask for more.

The front door at Marigold House leads on to an attractive galleried entrance hall, which in turn leads on to the master super-king bedroom and family bathroom. Two further bedrooms are situated on the first floor. One is a double bedroom and one is a twin bedded room with handy en-suite wc and sink.

The modern open plan living and kitchen dining room on the lower ground floor leads onto a stunning decked terrace with a Southern aspect and gorgeous views of the rolling hills and houses of the area - You'll find wooden dining tables and chairs set up here, the perfect spot for enjoying a glass of chilled Pimms or some al fresco dining! You'll also find the sun here for most of the day.

Pretty walled patio gardens below are accessed either by steps leading down from the terrace or from the basement State of the Art TV/Home cinema room downstairs, which boasts a 46inch Smart TV with surround sound/DVD/Blu ray, a comfortable sofa and bean bags for film and TV fun, as well as an en-suite wc, sink and utility room. These lower patio gardens, bordered with flowering shrubs, offer the perfect place to set up the Weber barbie for the evening, or for the kids to let off steam outside in the fresh coastal air.

The accommodation is beautifully decorated, spacious and very well equipped. It is ideally suited to extended family groups, one or two families with children or relatives, or perhaps two or three couples taking a break together.

A truly delightful retreat for couples and family groups alike. Flexible accommodation available on request for larger groups - please enquire. A seasonal parking pass is available on request for parking convenience.

If you're looking for somewhere truly special to stay - you've found it!

About Lisa Dancy

We are a busy, happy family of five, Ludovic, myself, and our three daughters all enjoy sailing, cycling, tennis and skiing. We particularly love to spend time by the sea, and South Devon with it's spectacular coastline and aquamarine seas, has enduring appeal - Dartmouth, to our minds, offers the best of the South Hams - Sun, sparkling blue seas, sandy beaches and sailing, and all in the most beautiful spot imaginable!

Lisa Dancy purchased this house in 2013

Why Lisa Dancy chose South Hams

Marigold House is a very special property, being one of the few really light and sunny holiday homes situated right in the heart of Dartmouth Town, yet in an utterly peaceful spot.

This unique holiday home offers all you could ever want - contemporary space, light, calm, tranquillity, gardens and a decked terrace, all within the walls of a stunning Edwardian home.

Marigold House was previously owned by a local artist, who loved to draw and paint in the light filled upper rooms of the house.

What makes this house unique

We looked at hundreds of properties before settling on Marigold house, and couldn't be happier. It took a lot of searching to find such a spacious and sunny period property right in the heart of Dartmouth, yet offering such complete and utter tranquillity (no traffic passes by this house). We also love the way that the different floor levels mean that everyone in the family can enjoy great company and congregate together on the terrace, living area or cinema rooms, but can also find the space to retreat and enjoy a little privacy whenever the need strikes. The only sounds you're likely to hear are the cries of seagulls in morning flight.

A peaceful haven in the centre of town

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I are just back from a lovely week in this very comfortable and attractively decorated house. We loved the fact that it's in the centre of town but so peaceful and quiet. All Dartmouth's many attractions are within easy walking distance, with many more accessible by boat or steam train so you can have many enjoyable car-free days which makes a very nice change.

The house is so light, airy and comfortable with lovely views across the town and the kitchen is extremely well equipped. We chose to eat in for a couple of evenings and it was a pleasure to cook and eat in such relaxing and attractive surroundings. We were very glad of the parking permit which enabled us to park in the main town car-park, just a few minutes' walk away.

All in all, we had a really enjoyable week and fell in love with Dartmouth and the surrounding area. Lisa, the owner, was extremely helpful with one or two queries - we would very happily return to Marigold House and would definitely recommend it, I'm sure we will be back.

Wonderful Dartmouth Property

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for 5 nights over Easter with my wife and our 3 adult sons in Marigold House.

We were revisiting Dartmouth where we had many family holidays in the past.

Excellent location in a quiet but very central part of Dartmouth and easily able to walk everywhere. We did not need to use the car during our stay.

The accommodation is first rate, deceptively spacious and comfortably sleeps six adults.

We liked the fact that the television is in a separate downstairs room and not the main living room which has a lovely balcony for sitting out.

Thank you Lisa for our stay and we would definitely recommend this for a holiday in Dartmouth.

Great house and location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 stayed in Dartmouth for a short break over the February half term. The house was very well located just a few minutes away from the Dart estuary along with a wealth of restaurants. The house was well equipped, modern and airy offering plenty of space for us all.

We were lucky enough to have good weather for most of the holiday and enjoyed coastal walks on both sides of the estuary and even experienced the steam train. We did not have to use our car once!

We hope to experience Dartmouth again during the warmer months.

Dartmouth is the Jewel of the South Hams, with ancient winding streets, rows of pastel coloured houses, a selection of fine art galleries and boutique shops, local markets, specialist delicatessens and an array of excellent restaurants.

Marigold House, an Edwardian semi-detached property, offers wonderful views of the picturesque houses lining the rolling hills at the mouth of the river Dart. At the nearby waterfront you will find local fish & chips and crab sandwiches - an absolute must, or perhaps try one of the fresh seafood restaurants offering varied gastronomic delights. Dartmouth is a favoured holiday spot for families, couples and groups of friends alike. This small naval port is home to the Britannia Royal Naval College, the centre of Royal Naval officer training, and has played a vital role in the UKs long nautical history. Bayards Cove is the town’s most ancient and picturesque wharf with a beautiful cobbled quayside and Tudor artillery fort, which guards Dartmouth's inner harbour built in the early 16th century by the townspeople to protect their town quay.

The sea and the sand offer all types of water sports and activities, with many cruise ships visiting the beautiful port throughout the year. During the summer months the embankment of the River Dart is absolutely bustling. Children catch crabs, water taxis ferry to and from Kingswear, and private boats and larger vessels provide wonderful river cruises and trips upstream towards Totnes. There is also the lovely and familiar sound of the old steam train making its summer journey from Kingswear to Paignton and the English Riviera.

The Dart Estuary lies within a South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and within the South Devon Heritage Coast. Just a short drive from Dartmouth is the award winning Blue Flag shingle beach of Blackpool Sands. Set in a sheltered bay and fringed by pines, this is said to be one of the area's most beautiful natural treasures, with turquoise blue seas lapping at the long stretches of sand. The South West Coast Path offers stunning scenery on short or long hikes, and you can head East towards Brixham or West towards Slapton Sands and Start Bay.

The modern Flavel theatre in town, just a few steps from Marigold House, offers theatre and cinema for adults and children alike the whole year through, and The National Trust properties of Coleton Fishacre and Greenway, the stunning holiday home of the much-loved author Agatha Christie, are both close by. Just a few steps along the coast are yet more beautiful Devon villages, including Totnes and Dittisham, with the historic market town of Kingsbridge just 13 miles west of Dartmouth, and the beautiful beaches of Salcombe well worth a day trip at around half an hour away. You can't help but love the place.

Just at the end of the road you will find our local artist Helena Clews, who runs an art shop and art classes for juniors of all ages as well as hosting fabulous holiday workshops and children’s art parties;

Wildlife Trips and Diving –

Monty Hall the wildlife presenter has a Dartmouth shop offering a fabulous range of great escapes including foraging, shore walks, boat and diving trips.

You will find plenty of adventure parks, including the wonderful Pennywell Farm, a multi award winning Farm activity park'

The South Hams are the perfect location for longer holidays and for year round short breaks, with the wonderful mild climate of the Southernmost tip of Devon helping to ensure the very best of sunny days - the South Hams name deriving from the old English Saxon word 'Hamme' meaning 'sheltered place.'

Come and try the great restaurants, Blue Flag beaches, delicious local ice cream, crabbing, sailing, stunning views, excellent shopping and art galleries, Devon cream teas, coastal walking, and of course the famous Dartmouth Regatta...

Each year the Dartmouth calendar is choc a bloc with sea and land based events and this special town festival is the absolute pinnacle of the fun. Since 1834, the Dartmouth Royal Regatta has been the highlight of the year, and the whole town gets swept up in the atmosphere of this wonderful event. Visitors get to enjoy a host of treats, from sailing to market displays to marvelling at the acrobatics of the Red Arrows and the most astounding firework displays in these last special days of August.
