About Michael Hayden
Michael and John just celebrated 30 years together in May 2018. They met in NYC in 1988 and have since lived in Oakland, West Hollywood, Marina del Rey and now Playa del Rey. They are finally realizing their life-long dream of living at the beach! John works from home. His company, TrueVista Consulting, provides strategic marketing consulting for small to medium-sized companies that need the branding to grow their business but aren't ready to commit to full-time resources. Michael is a professional artist. He uses encaustic (beeswax) and found objects to create paintings inspired by the California horizon. His artwork is exhibited in Los Angeles galleries and art collections worldwide. Michael has been a guest star on HGTV and his artworks have been featured on TV and in several Magazines. Celebrity collectors include Cesar Milan (The Dog Whisperer), Jenny McCarthy & Donnie Wahlberg to name a few. Michael's love of art and design is influential in the decor of their homes together. Michael and John love animals. They've had 5 labradors, 2 cats, 5 birds and various fish over the years. These days, Daisy, their five year old yellow lab and Daphne, a 10 year old calico cat are in constant competition for attention. Daisy and Daphne are super friendly and they'll definitely let you know how much they enjoy meeting and greeting our new guests.

Why Michael Hayden chose Playa del Rey
Michael and John are excited to welcome you to their newest property in Playa del Rey, CA., The Sweet Spot Guest House! After years of living in West Hollywood where they hosted vacation travelers from around the world, they decided to head to the beach to take a break from the fast-paced life of LALA Land. They found an amazing fixer-upper property just blocks from the beach and have been busy renovating it for over two years now. While they are still working on the landscaping, The Sweet Spot Guest House is complete and ready to share with vacationers. You may get a little sand between your toes as renovations are coming to an end but hey, that's living at the beach! We are smack dab in the middle of some of the best beaches in the Los Angeles area. With Marina del Rey, Venice, Santa Monica and Malibu to the north and San Pedro, Manhattan, Hermosa and Palos Verde to the south you'll be sure to find a little piece of paradise to spread out an blanket and an umbrella and enjoy a spectacular day at the beach. Local bike rentals are available too if you want to spend the day riding along the many miles of beach front boardwalk or gather some friends and play volleyball at one of the many locations available.
What makes this Guest House unique
Within walking distance to the beach, coffee shops, restaurants and bars, the village of Playa del Rey is known for its laid back beachy vibe. Locals call it "the best kept secret in the Los Angeles area", so don't tell anybody how awesome it is to hang out here! A little backgound about the area: Playa del Rey (Spanish for "Beach of the King" or "King's beach") is an affluent beachside community in the Westside of the city of Los Angeles, The community is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west, Marina del Rey and Ballona Creek to the north, Ballona Wetlands and Playa Vista to the northeast, Westchester to the east, Los Angeles International Airport and El Segundo to the south. Today a bridge between Playa Del Rey and the jetty between Ballona Creek and the Marina is accessible to foot traffic and bicycle traffic, but not to automobiles. Bikers, skaters and joggers probably have the best chance of traversing the sidewalks of the beaches north to Santa Monica, and to the South Bay, here at this bridge. Both UCLA and LMU have crew teams that practice on the Ballona Creek channel and Marina del Rey.

The location was perfect: It's an easy drive from LAX. To Venice Beach. For a leisurely drive up the Pacific Coast Highway. Only three blocks to the ocean.
The hosts treated us like VIPs. It is a very special place. Enchanting.
Sweet Spot Bungalow
We really enjoyed staying at this very well appointed studio. Very conveniently located to the airport, beach and fabulous restaurants. We will definitely be back. Thank you.
Great location, wonderful hosts
Michael and John were so helpful during our stay. Not only did they let us change our dates with no additional fees they offered recycling and trash bins as we moved/settled our son into LMU. The house is nicely furnished with a well stocked kitchen and the outdoor shower was refreshing. Great location with easy access to the beaches, biking, good restaurants and the LMU campus. We hope to stay again.
Sweet Spot Spectacular!
Absolutely loved everything about our stay from the outdoor shower (amazing!), to the beautiful gardens, the wonderfully warm hosts (including, of course, Daisy and Daphne!), the access to the beach, worry-free parking, the adorable studio, and the comfy bed. Can’t wait to return!
Thanks Amelia for such a nice review! We really appreciate it. You and London are always welcome. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Wonderful birthday trip
We went to Playa del Rey for my wife's birthday and it was wonderful. The location is central to just about everything. Parking is easy, check in was great, and the space was everything described and more. The pool was an added bonus that we weren't expecting to use much but was incredibly refreshing after a long day at the beach. The owners were some of the nicest people we have met and communication was prompt and easy. We will be back!
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at the guesthouse- pristinely clean, high end interior design, lovely pool and grounds. Walkable to the beach for sunset, we got an Uber to come home for $7 when we needed to drag the beach gear but just walking without provisions was doable. The owners are gracious, live onsite and are available for any need. It is very close to the airport but out of the flight path to the north so it really was not too loud. I enjoyed watching the planes. Will definitely come back!
Thanks for such a lovely review! We really enjoyed hosting you and your daughter. I'm sure Daisy will really miss you! She loved swimming with you. We look forward to seeing you again soon. You're always welcome.
