San Martino is on a private peninsula of 30 acres with olive groves and landscaped gardens down to the lake. There is a terracotta paved terrace around the house and pool. The pool is 20 metres long and 7.5 metres wide with views over the lake. There is a barbecue and wooden garden furniture for eating outside.
San Martino has a wonderful lake-front setting on the shore of Lake Corbara. The garden is securely fenced, and the lake is accessed via a locked gate.
The lake is part of the River Tiber flowing to Rome, and is formed by a dam downstream in Corbara. The lake and shores around it are part of the protected “Parco Fluviale del Tevere”. San Martino’s garden is a great place to spot water-birds - gulls wheel overhead, and you may spot a heron or even an osprey (fish-eagle). On dry land we have seen deer, muntjack, wild boar, foxes and porcupine.
The lake also means that there is a wonderful quality of light at San Martino. At any time of year, the sunshine reflecting off the water lends a wonderful sparkle to everything.
There is no water-craft activity on the lake – no motorboats etc – and therefore it is blissfully peaceful. However, for your safety we do not supply kayaks/paddleboards etc because if you dropped a paddle or fell in, the absence of other water craft means there’d be no-one to rescue you! However if you are keen to spend a day canoeing, sailing, paddle-boarding or windsurfing, there’s a good solution nearby.
