This beautiful stone villa is in the centre of Peratallada, one of Catalonia's most prized and celebrated villages with its annual music, culinary and artistic festivals. The house has a lawned garden with a small private pool (4.5m by 3m) and a shaded outdoor dining area. Inside, the large rooms have fascinating historical features, such as an ancient bread oven, and an underground cistern for storing grain. There are 4 bedrooms; 3 with large double beds and one with twin beds. There's a stylish bathroom on each floor, a modern kitchen, a huge living/dining room with stone fireplace and large TV room with a double sofabed. The village has several restaurants, some very highly rated and well known, and others offering good value, quality, traditional Catalan food. The house enables you to enjoy the Catalan atmosphere with its history, culture and entertainment while also providing an ideal situation to access lovely local beaches 6 miles away. Water sports including sailing, snorkelling and diving, are particularly good in this area. Gerona (Spain's 'other Barcelona') is just 30 minutes drive, as is Figueres, where you can visit the fascinating Dali museum. The house is ideally situated for holidays all year round.
Baix Emporda, the area around Peratallada, is a region of great environmental interest with national parkland immediately to the west (Gavarres Massif) and to the north towards the coastal town of L'Escala. The Roman archaeological site at Empuries is a national treasure. It's really worth resisting the beaches on a couple of days of your holiday to explore the surrounding places of interest. For gardeners, a MUST is the Cap Roeg Botanical gardens where you'll see the most important flora of the Mediterranean. And in July and August they have a jazz festival in a superb outdoor setting overlooking the sea.
Golf: The area is excellent for golf, with several courses within 20-30 minutes. Emporda, with 27 holes and a swimming pool for non-golfers, and Pals are nearby and very good. Golf Costa Brava at Santa Christina D'Aro (30 min) has dramatic views and is testing in golf and physical terms with many climbs and descents. The best course, though a little further afield, is the PGA Golf Club de Catalunya, a championship course but worth the trip. Located on the N11 between Girona and Barcelona at Caldes de Malavella (45 min).
Swimming/ diving/ sailing/ walking: You'll find an excellent selection of beaches all along the coast right down to Palamos.
Our nearest small beaches and pretty bays are:
Our nearest large beach is close by at Playa de Pals which has a hugh sandy stretch of more than a mile.
There are diving schools at Fornells, Aguafreda and Begur if you want to do scuba diving. Good snorkelling is found all along this stretch of coast as the water is clear and the sea life thrives.
There are many additional sports/leisure activities available in the area, and very good walking with well signed paths.
Sailing and motor boats can be hired from several boatyards. Our agency has a list of phone numbers and will make a booking for you if you ask.
Swimming pool an absolute godsend with 5 children under 10! M and C families July 05

House was superb. Thanks, T and P families August 2005
The house is so stylish and sympathetically done, but also homely and practical. The village is great - everyone very friendly. B family September 2005
We stayed in this lovely old house in the middle of Peratallada for one week in July 2009. We were a party of 8 adults and our ages ranged from 26 to 75 years old, and we all really enjoyed it.
The description of the property is accurate and can be relied on, although it doesn't mention that the old walls are home to many small birds who provide constant amusement to those sitting by the pool.
The beds were comfy and the bed linen and towels of a good quality. The house was clean and well presented. The kitchen facilities are excellent and all 8 of us really could sit in comfort and enjoy our meals in the pleasant dining area. The glasses, crockery and cutlery were all more than adequate. (We didn't use the BBQ or eat in the garden so I can't comment on this experience.)
The village is full of restaurants so there is no need to cook if you don't want to and no need to drive in the evenings. We tried 3 restaurants and they were all good.
The pool is small but perfectly adequate for a cooling dip.
There is plenty to explore in the area near the villa and Gerona and Barcelona can both be visited on day trips. A car is essential for this holiday home. Leaving it in the village car park was not a problem although paying the small fee did depend on which attendant was there.
The equipment - dishwashers, washing machine etc were all of a high standard and there is a really good 'sheila maid' for drying.
Choosing a house for a family group is always quite a responsibility but I really did feel that this time I had struck gold. I have received no adverse comments from my son and daughter and they would not hold back! I think however that 10 adults would be too many.
Of course there are niggles although the main one is beyond the owner's control. We wished that there had been a nice bakery in the village and found it tedious to have to leave the village to shop as we really were happy to sit in the lovely little garden, although the garden furniture is not up to the quality of the rest of the house and was our main disappointment.
If you want to stay in a lovely old house in the middle of a beautiful old village yet within easy reach of cities and beaches, I can recommend Peratallada.
So impressed with this place! The website pictures are great but really don't do it justice. Full of character and so much bigger than we were expecting. And that includes the pool - perfect size for a cooling dip yet big enough to let three kids do their thing all day long. The perfect mix of tradition (absolutely beautiful stone house) and all the necessary mod cons (well-equipped kitchen, pool towels, wifi etc). And felt very smug being able to walk out of the front door right onto the cobbled lanes of Peratallada and be seated at a cafe or restaurant or be mooching around a shop within seconds (read no late night drives home with hot, tired kids.) A great base for exploring, with beaches within 20 minutes drive but really happy to spend all day at the house, to be honest. Peratallada is nicely bustly at night but never overcrowded and the house itself always feels incredibly peaceful, given that the garden runs adjacent to one of the main pedestrian "streets". Would and will recommend and hope to return ourselves. Could go on but don't want to rave too much in case the house then gets all booked up for next year! Only wish it was OUR holiday home...
Ps. (A few more freestanding fans would be welcome in the hotter months, especially for the upper bedrooms, but, given that we visited in August, the temperature in the house was, on the whole, pretty comfortable.)
A delightful holiday in this beautiful village house, full of character , and very tastefully furnished. It was extremely well equipped, helping provide a relaxing holiday. Facilities for self catering were excellent , and it's position in an adorable old village, surrounded by excellent restaurants made eating out , equally relaxing ....and very tempting.
Lovely garden pool, which was very clean and well maintained.
Thank you !
We did a month long family vacation in Spain and Peratallada was the highlight! The town is absolutely darling, an untouched walled medieval village that is full of the best restaurants in Spain, lovely shops and great little taverns. The house is gorgeous, the kitchen well supplied for cooking, the rooms beautiful and cool and the little pool was so refreshing for the kids at the end of the day. This is one of the best places we have every stayed in in our many years of renting summer homes!!
We loved our stay in this beautiful house in picture perfect Peratallada. We were a mixed family group ranging from grandparents to 3 year old, via 18 and 22 and all were charmed by the character of the house and appreciated the attention to detail and generosity of the accommodation over 4 floors, with a lovely outside space and pool. We found the house to be extremely well equipped and comfortable for our group. It was a great base to explore the area, within 15-20 minutes of a choice of beaches and easy range for culture in Barcelona, Girona or for the Dali experience in Pubol and Figueres, and it was fantastic to come back to the pool after a day exploring. Peratallada is picturesque, and a lovely place to wander through and spend the evening in one of a good choice of restaurants. Although there is no grocery store in the village, there are plenty of supermarkets/markets etc very nearby for self catering, and we enjoyed a couple of evenings spent in the garden having made use of the cook's kitchen and great barbecue area. We had a truly lovely time and were sad to leave!
Thanks very much to Chris and Sa Punta agency, who were very helpful in booking and queries re the stay.
We had a great stay here in April 2015. The property is beautiful, full of character, much bigger than it seems from the photos and the location is amazing, right in the middle of the stunning village of Peratallada. Chris and Howard have done a great job with the decor and it feels very comfortable and welcoming. Great for kids as they can be in the TV room downstairs while adults enjoy some quieter time in the lounge upstairs. We will be back for sure!
The village is in an area of exceptional beauty with forest, mountains, historic villages and an unspoilt coastline. This area has escaped the high rise developments of southern Spain. Well-maintained coastal paths link the local small sheltered beaches and bays providing some stunning sea views. A huge sandy beach at Playa de Pals has excellent windsurfing. Nearby towns such as Begur, Palafrugell, Torroella de Montgri and La Bisbal have thriving markets for food, crafts and pottery. You can take a boat to the protected Iles Medes - a perfect environment for varied species of fish and bird life. Gerona has a wonderful old town centre - a photographer's delight. It's stylish, yet still provides excellent value in the restaurants and shops. Peratallada is well known for its restaurants and it's an easy walk to all of them in the village to enjoy local specialities and leisurely outdoor eating. There are music, art and dance festivals in the summer months and wine festivals in the autumn.
