Briar Rose by the Sea with Ariel's Grotto Guest House and separate Bunk house

Bedrooms 6
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

5 Bedrooms/4 baths in 2 houses plus pullout beds everywhere AND a bunk house!!!

Briar Rose by the Sea is for LARGE GROUPS! Adjacent guest house is just a walk across the lawn and there is a bunk house for those more adventurous ALL on the Sea's edge and adjacent to each other. What a wonderful beach for your family! It is minutes from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Huge yard for your family activities and the water facing deck can hold and seat everyone in your party. If you have a large group vacation planned, this is the place. The beach area is clear of large rocks and is a beautiful pebble/sand beach-- a hard find on the rocky coast of Maine! Couple this with the mountain views and the Atlantic ocean and you will want to return here every year.

The ONLY property you will find to accommodate large groups with 2 separate residences and a bunk house!!! All on one large property with over 300 ft of beach frontage and a huge lawn for family activities AND a huge Cedar Works Pirate themed playground!!!

I Must Go Back to the Sea Again...: You will want to return year after year to this very special spot. There are a lot of rentals to choose from, but none like this. Accommodating large groups with beautiful grounds and beach so close to Acadia and overlooking the mountains of Acadia combined with the deep water frontage make this a one of a kind vacation spot and THE PLACE for Family reunions and large groups!

Make Sure you have Deep Water frontage--Not Tidal!: This is deep water frontage. Don't be fooled by houses 'located on the ocean' that have tidal frontage. Tidal frontage means you have nothing but mud (and a foul smell!) when the tide goes out and the water disappears. True deep water frontage means you will still have deep water even when the tide is out. Many properties listed in Trenton Maine have tidal frontage--don't be fooled by a good price!

Several Golf Courses are nearby: Bar Harbor Golf course is just minutes away and down the road to Bar Harbor you will find the famed 'Kebo Valley' golf course.

There's a Summer Place...: This is truly an exceptional property with a breathtaking view of the ocean with the backdrop of the mountains of Acadia National Park. A deep water mooring is provided should you wish to sail or boat during your stay here. Spend your days combing the beach for starfish, sand dollars and pretty colored shells and sea glass. The beach is cleared of large rocks (something no one is allowed to do anymore) which is a hard find on the rocky coast of Maine. Couple this with the smell of the sea and a warm summer breeze and you will want to return year after year to rest your soul. This spot is great for ocean swimming or wading as well as for snorkeling or scuba diving.

But be prepared to just sit back in your beach chair with your toes dug into the warm sand while the warm summer breeze caresses your cares away. Don't be surprised if you catch yourself smiling all the time...we'll know why...

A superb accomodation in a gorgeous setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a family reunion here with ages ranging from 16-95. There were ten of us and we had a wonderful time. Everything was as we were led to expect and more. The beach is wonderful and great for shelling and swimming and kayaking. We had everything we needed and more. We would highly recommend this rental. You cannot go wrong. We hope to go back!!

Wonderful Stay!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd year at Briar Rose by the Sea! Again, we totally enjoyed our stay. This place is perfect for a large family. The both houses are very well equipped with sleeping accommodations, kitchen needs. Trenton is close to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park. The views from the deck overlooking the bay are amazing. You can take a stroll on the beach, where we saw starfish, very large clams. this place is highly recommended.

Deborah's two homes are spacious and clean. She has the home well equipped with all bedding and necessary items to care for a home. Walmart, Shaws, HomeDepot, etc., is a quick 10 minutes away, so shopping is easy. 30 minutes aware is Acadia. You are closest to the Hull Cove entrance; Cadillac Mountain, etc. For those who fly, the airport is approx. 10 minutes away. As for the property, Grotto has its own kitchen with 3 futons in the adjoining livingroom, a bedroom with 2 twin beds; and a bedroom with 1 queen; downstairs, you have multiple couches that turn into beds. Awesome for kids. Oh and a deck off the livingroom overseeing the bay. The Ariel is spacious with everything you could possible need. Our deck overlooked the bay as well. We brought our own kayaks and went from one island to the other. There is a small shed that has 2 futons in it, we did not use. And for those who like outdoor fires on the beach, my kids made a firepit with seating out of the materials found on the beach. If I had to say anything con about the rental, the kids were disappointed the Grotto had no wifi, but for my kids, wifi, tv and indoor activities is very limited and they are not there for that. They can come to the main house if they needed access. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this to anyone with a large group. Deborah, we thank you for such a great visit to the Acadia area. Linda F.

Owner's Response: So sorry to hear these properties only rated as "good" to these renters. This is the email I received from them after their stay and before this review: "You are awesome. Hope to return in the future. Stay well." You can't win 'em all I guess! Please check out our other reviews and we will have updated photos soon! We would like to point out a few things: (1) It is not 30 minutes to Acadia National Park from this property. It is around 15 minutes. Also Walmart and the major shopping listed in the review are 20 minutes away not just 10 minutes, but there is an IGA that is about 10 minutes away. (2) There is more than a "shed" as described in their review. It is a bunk house and was build as such. It has electricity, an overhead fan inside for cooling and plenty of outlets for laptops, phone charging, tv's and such. It has a smoke and CO2 detector and outside flood light to illuminate the area. Inside are two new futons. The majority of our renters have children who absolutely love the experience of sleeping in a bunk house. It is located between the nautical themed cedar works playground and the new large deck off the main house (Briar Rose) and there is plenty of illumination between the bunk house and the main house! The only "con" mentioned by this renter and the reason we assume they rated us as only "good" is because only the main house has WiFi and not the guest house "Ariel's Grotto." This is how it is described in our ad. Thank you for taking the time to read our response and read the other reviews!

A Great Place

  • 5 of 5

If you are worried about the listing from the pictures, don't be. Why do the owners have pictures taken in the rain? Who knows, but the place is beautiful. You sit on the lawn or the porches and look across the narrows at the mountains and hills of Acadia. Very peaceful and quiet, yet a 20 minute drive to Bar Harbor, or just about anywhere on the Island. We found ourselves driving into the park most days. forget the local food market, it's pretty sad- but Ellsworth and Bar Harbor offer all you'll need. Five nice bedrooms. We slept 9 comfortably. There are fold-out couches if you need to pack 'em in. The sixth "bedroom" is a garden shed with futons in it- fine for teenagers to escape from you, but not serious sleeping quarters. Even in August the weather was awesome- warm by day and cool at night. The North Carolina relatives really came all this way for the cool nights. Plenty of elbow room, rope chairs hanging from the Grotto's second floor porch. Ten foot+ tides on the beach. It's a pity one can't post pictures- the place is so photogenic we found ourselves taking lots of pictures just in the yard and on the beach.

Your jaw will drop view. A big lawn that does not have trees blocking the view. Nice private beach that is not rocky. Kids loved the playground. Adults loved the decks and the swing chairs to watch the waves. Did we mention the view? It is really breathtaking. No disappointments here. Glad to review for owners. It was clean, comfortable, and more than we expected. No disappointments. This is the real deal and owners are very accommodating. Everything is right here and it is super close to Acadia and Bar Harbor.

Maine at its BEST!

  • 5 of 5

We had a reunion of 21 people and we didn't want to stay apart from each other. Briar Rose by the Sea and Ariel's Grotto and the bunk house work out great for our large group. The furniture converts to beds in the living areas which provides enough space for everyone to be comfortable. We truly enjoyed having a huge lawn to play croquet and for badmitten and frisbee. The deck was the main gathering area and it is really large and has seating all the way around. We recommend to large groups.
